Indian shooters Hriday Hazarika and Nancy Mandhotra have bagged silver medals in the men’s and women’s 10 meter air rifle events, at the ongoing ISSF World Cup 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
It was the first-ever ISSF World Cup medal for 21-year-old Hriday Hazarika as well as 19-year-old Nancy Mandhotra. Hazarika made it to the men’s 10m air rifle final.

The Baku meet is the penultimate stage of the ISSF World Cup for rifle and pistol shooters.

The final stage will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil before the ISSF World Championships in November at Doha.

2 Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar to attend 1st Ministerial Meeting of Indo-EU Trade and Technology Council in Brussels

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar will be on a two-day visit to Brussels from Monday. He will participate in the 1st Ministerial Meeting of the Indo-EU Trade and Technology Council (Indo-EU TTC), which will take place on 16th May. Mr. Chandrasekhar is part of a Ministerial delegation comprising India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal that will also attend the same council.

3 IPS Officer Praveen Sood appointed as next Director of CBI

IPS officer Praveen Sood has been appointed as the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a period of two years. Mr. Sood is currently serving as the Director General of Police of Karnataka. He will succeed incumbent CBI Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal.

4 CISCE declares results of Class 10th, 12th examinations

The results of ICSE Class 10th and ISC Class 12th examinations of this year were declared on Sunday. Pass percentage of Class 10th is 98.94 per cent, whereas that of 12th is 96.93 per cent. Girls have once again done better than boys in both the examinations. In Class 10th, girls' pass percentage is 99.21 per cent, and boys' is 98.71 per cent. 98.01 per cent girls have passed Class 12th examinations and boys achieved a pass percentage of 95.96 per cent in the same examination.
 
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), in a statement, said that candidates and other stakeholders can access the results on the website- cisce.org and results.cisce.org. It said for any queries pertaining to the results, schools can contact the helpdesk at helpdesk@cisce.org or can call on 1800-203-2414. Individual candidates can apply for a re-check of their results using the Apply for Recheck button on the CISCE website. The re-check module will be available till the 21st of May.

5 MoS for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar launches 3rd Semicon India future design roadshow at IIT Delhi

Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar today launched the third Semicon India future design roadshow at IIT Delhi. During the roadshow, global semiconductor leaders will exchange their visions to catalyse the semiconductor ecosystem in India.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Chandrasekhar said, the country's semiconductor sector offers wide-ranging opportunities as it is expected to grow to 110 billion US dollars by the year 2030. Highlighting the role of Startups in the nation's progress, he said, there has been a quantum jump in the number of startups operating in India. He said, in 2013-14 only 500 startups were operating in India which has now increased to over 91 thousand. The Minister said, the government is committed to building a strong ecosystem for the semiconductor and electronics industry. He added that the government has announced incentives worth Rupees 76 thousand crores for semiconductor manufacturing in the country to fulfil the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

6 1st Ministerial meeting of India-EU Trade and Technology Council to be held in Brussels on 16th May

The first Ministerial meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council will be held in Brussels on 16th May. The meeting will be co-chaired on the Indian side by the Ministers for External Affairs, Commerce and Industry, and Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology.
 
Trade and Technology Council was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during Ms Leyen's visit to India in April last year. Both sides established three Working Groups under the Council. These are Working Group on Strategic Technologies, Digital Governance, and Digital Connectivity, Working Group on Green and Clean Energy Technologies, and Working Group on Trade, Investment and Resilient Value Chains.

7 Girls Outshine Boys in CBSE Class 12 Board exam results; Class 10 results also announced

Girls have outshined boys in the Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE class 12th examinations’ result. Girls with 90.68 pass percentage have done better than the boys. Class-12 Boys pass percentage stood at 84.67.

9 ISSF World Cup: India’s Rhythm Sangwan wins bronze medal in Women’s 10 metre air pistol event in Baku

India’s Rhythm Sangwan has won the bronze medal in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup 2023 for rifle and pistol shooters in Baku, Azerbaijan.

She scored 219.1 in the final to finish third behind Anna 2016 Rio Olympic champion Anna Korakaki of Greece and 2004 Athens Olympics gold medallist Olena Kostevych of Ukraine.

It was Sangwan’s first individual senior medal at the shooting World Cup.

10 ISSF World Cup: Indian pair Divya TS and Sarabjot Singh win gold in 10m air pistol mixed team event

In the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup being held at Baku in Azerbaijan, Indian pair Divya TS and Sarabjot Singh won gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event today.

The Indian pair defeated the Serbian legends Damir Mikec and Zorana Arunovic in the final match pulling off a nerve-wracking 16-14 win. It was a second ISSF World Cup gold for Sarabjot who had won the individual air pistol in Bhopal in March this year. On the other hand, it was the first senior medal for Diya at the international level. Ismail Keles and Simal Yilmaz of Turkey won bronze.
