Mr. Parameswaran Iyer today took charge as the new Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog. A 1981-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, Mr. Iyer has worked with both the public and private sectors. He was Secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation in New Delhi from 2016 to 2020. Mr. Iyer spearheaded the implementation of the country's flagship Swachh Bharat Mission, which successfully delivered access to safe sanitation to 550 million people.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Iyer said, he is honoured and humbled to have been given the incredible opportunity to serve the country again as CEO of NITI Aayog. He said, he is deeply grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for another chance to work under his leadership towards a transformed India. 

Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare and Minority Affairs Smriti Irani today inaugurated the Sealdah Metro Station of the East-West corridor, which will help people living in Kolkata’s suburbs to reach the IT hub of Sector-5 without hassle.

She inaugurated the station virtually from Howrah Maidan, the terminal station of the 16.6-km corridor on the other side of river Hooghly. Trains were so far running between Sector-5 and Phoolbagan. Commercial services till Sealdah will begin on Thursday, taking the total operational length of the corridor to nine kilometres.

The Minister said the 2.33-km extension up to Sealdah will help around 35,000 passengers in their daily commute. Local TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay and MLA Paresh Pal boycotted the programme, alleging that Indian Railways insulted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by inviting her at the last minute for the inauguration of the station, located in central Kolkata.

National Testing Agency (NTA) will start releasing admit cards for Phase One of Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2022 from 6 pm today.

The NTA yesterday released the city intimation slip for the CUET for admission to undergraduate programmes. The slip, which carries a unique date sheet along with the name of the city allotted to a candidate, can be downloaded from the official CUET-UG website

A unique date sheet for every aspirant is necessary since all candidates have applied for 54,555 unique combinations of subjects across 90 universities under CUET-UG. The City Intimation Slip for each candidate has information relating to the Subjects /Language /Medium offered in Slot 1 and Slot 2 as well as the date and City allotted.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the first-ever ‘Artificial Intelligence in Defence’ (AIDef) symposium and exhibition, organised by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, in New Delhi today. The event will feature an exhibition to showcase the cutting-edge AI-enabled solutions developed by the Services, research organisations, industry and start-ups and innovators and the launch of AI products for the market. Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar said that 75 newly-developed AI products/technologies, having applications in defence, will be launched, as part of the celebrations marking 75 years of Independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and to promote ‘Aatmanirbharta’ initiative in Defence. The products are in the domains of automation/unmanned/robotics systems, cyber security, human behaviour analysis, intelligent monitoring system, logistics and supply chain management, and Operational Data Analytics.

Besides the 75 products being launched, another 100 are in various stages of development.

The fourth phase of Sea Trials for Indigenous Aircraft Carrier - Vikrant has been successfully completed during which integrated trials of the majority of equipment and systems onboard were undertaken. Defence Ministry said, the ship’s delivery is being targeted by the end of this month, followed by commissioning of the ship in August this year to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The JEE Main Result has been declared after NTA released the JEE Main Final Answer Key for the Session 1 Papers of B.Arch, B.Planning, B.E, and B.Tech. The final answer keys were formulated by NTA after candidates raised objections to the provisional answer keys from July 2 to 4, 2022. The scorecard has been released for the JEE Mains 2022 Paper 1.

An estimate of over 7 lakh students were reported to have appeared for the Session 1 Exams in June.

Culture Ministry said, Sankalp Bhumi Banyan tree campus in Vadodara, where Dr. Ambedkar had taken a resolve to eradicate untouchability on 23th September, 1917 be declared as Monument of National Importance.
