1 Ninth edition of Sri Lanka-India naval exercise SLINEX to begin today in Visakhapatnam

The ninth edition of Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise SLINEX will begin today in Visakhapatnam. The exercise will be conducted in two phases-the harbour phase at Visakhapatnam on March 7 and 8, followed by the sea phase on March 9 and 10 in the Bay of Bengal.

Sri Lankan Navy will be represented by SLNS Sayurala, an advanced offshore patrol vessel and the Indian Navy by INS Kirch, a guided missile corvette.

Other participants from the Indian Navy include INS Jyoti, a Fleet support tanker, Advanced Light Helicopter(ALH), Seaking and Chetak Helicopters and Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The previous edition of SLINEX was conducted off Trincomalee in October 2020.

2 Labour Ministry to celebrate Iconic week as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from today

These activities include celebrating 25 crore registrations under e-SHRAM, launching of e-SHRAM on UMANG app, the launch of Donate-a-Pension scheme, Job fair by National Career Service centers, placement drives, and placement-oriented camps with special focus on SC and STs and differently-abled at 65 places across India.

3 Australian cricket icon Shane Warne passes away at 52

Shane Warne, Australian cricket legend who helped his nation win the World Cup in 1999 and was part of five Ashes-winning teams during his career, died aged 52 on Friday.

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” Warne’s management confirmed in a statement to Australian media outlet Fox Sports.

4 Former Army Chief General SF Rodrigues passes away

Former Army Chief General SF Rodrigues, who was instrumental in expanding the role of women into the Indian Army, passed away on Friday.

Indian Army in a statement said, “It is informed with profound grief that General SF Rodrigues (retd) passed away at Panjim, Goa today. General Sunith Francis Rodrigues (retd) was the 15th Chief of Army Staff from 01 July 1990 to 30 June 1993.” He was also the 26th Governor of Punjab and the 13th Administrator of Chandigarh.

5 CCI to hold 7th National Conference on Economics of Competition Law on 4th March

Competition Commission of India will hold the 7th National Conference on Economics of Competition Law on 4th March in virtual mode.

CCI has been organizing the conference every year since 2016. Neelkanth Mishra, who is a Member of, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister will deliver the keynote address in the inaugural session. The Plenary at this year’s conference is on the topic ‘Reforms and Deepening of Markets’.

The Conference is an endeavour to develop and sustain interest in the Economics of Competition Law and create a critical mass of antitrust economists. It brings together scholars, practitioners, academicians, and experts working in the area of economics of competition law.

7 Indigenous anti-collision system 'Kavach' to avoid rail accidents successfully tested by Indian Railways

Railway  Minister  Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that ‘Kavach’ System, the anti-collision test conducted by the Indian Railways to check the indigenous developed system to avoid rail accidents is successful. He held an on-site inspection today near Secunderabad.

The indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, Kavach, was designed to help the Railways achieve - zero accidents.

'Kavach' automatically stopped the train before 380 metres of other Locomotive at the front. He tweeted about the successful test of Kavach.

8 NMC says foreign medical graduates can complete internships in India

National Medical Commission has said that foreign medical graduates' application to complete the remaining part of internship in India is considered eligible. The circular has come amid the ongoing evacuation drive of Indian medical students from Ukraine.

In a circular, NMC has said, it has been observed that there are some Foreign Medical Graduates with incomplete internship due to such compelling situation which is beyond their control like Covid pandemic and war.

It said, considering the agony and stress faced by these foreign medical graduates, their application to complete the remaining part of the internship in India is considered eligible.

9 Defence Ministry to host 12th edition of biennial Defence exhibition, DefExpo 2022, from 10-14 March in Gujarat

Ministry of Defence is hosting the 12th edition of prestigious biennial defence exhibition, DefExpo 2022, at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from 10th to 14th March. This mega defence international exhibition will be focused on land, air, naval, internal homeland security and electronic systems. Government believes that India has tremendous potential to emerge as a global defence manufacturing hub. The DefExpo seminars will be held in a hybrid format, enabling the speakers as well as the audience to participate in various seminars virtually.

10 MoU signed to promote Start-up in latest Daylight Harvesting Technology

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today said that the Ministry of Science and Technology has decided to promote a unique Start-up in latest Daylight Harvesting Technology in order to reduce carbon footprint and improve the building's energy efficiency.

The Ministry of Science and Technology said that the only Start-up company in India for Daylight Harvesting Technologies “Skyshade Daylights Private Limited” Hyderabad signed an MoU with the Department of Science and Technology.

Dr Jitendra Singh said that TDB will give five crore rupees of the ten crore project to Skyshade company for developing new technologies for basement illumination on round the clock basis. He said, the company is engaged in roots starting with design and build operations of large skylight domes for building atriums and solar thermal technologies.
