Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation Stone for Manipur Water Supply Project on on Thursday through video conferencing.

The Governor, Chief Minister of Manipur and his cabinet colleagues, MPs and MLAs are expected to join the program from Imphal.

Government of India initiated the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide safe and adequate quantity drinking water to every rural household of the country by 2024 with the motto “Har Ghar Jal”. The programme also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation, rain water harvesting.

The Jal Jeevan Mission is based on a community approach to water and has extensive Information, Education and Communication as a key components of the mission. It looks to create a Jan Andolan for water, thereby making it everyone’s priority.

2 PM Modi to deliver keynote address at India Ideas Summit today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the keynote address at the India Ideas Summit today. The two-day Summit which began yesterday is being hosted by the US-India Business Council. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the formation of the Council. The theme for this year’s India Ideas Summit is ‘Building a Better Future'.  
AIR correspondent reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will provide perspective on how the US-India Partnership can shape the post-COVID world.

The virtual Summit will witness discussions on areas including India-US cooperation and future of the relation between the two countries in a post pandemic world. It will feature high-level presence from Indian and US government policymakers, state-level officials, and thought leaders from business and society.

3 Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passes away; President, PM express grief

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon passed away this morning. His son Ashutosh Tandon informed him about his father's demise on twitter. Mr Lalji Tandon was admitted to a hospital in Lucknow last month. A veteran BJP leader, Lalji Tandon was a former MP from Lucknow and former Cabinet Minister in the state government.

His son and Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government Ashutosh Tandon said that his last rites will be performed while following the Covid Guidelines in Lucknow  this evening. He requested everyone to pay homage to the leader while remaining at home.

Uttar Pradesh Government has  announced three day state mourning. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed heartfelt condolences over the demise of Lalji Tandon.

President Ram Nath Kovind today said the nation has lost a legendary leader in the passing away of Madhya Pradesh Governor Lal Ji Tandon. In a tweet, the President said Tandon combined cultural sophistication of Lucknow and acumen of a national stalwart. Stating that he deeply mourns the death, Mr Kovind extended condolences to his family and friends.

4 HRD Minister to launch Manodarpan initiative to provide psychosocial support to students

Union Human Resource Development Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal will  launch the Manodarpan initiative of the HRD Ministry today. The initiative under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, aims to provide psychosocial support to students for their mental health and well-being.

Minister of State for HRD, Secretaries of the Department of Higher Education and the School Education and Literacy, and senior officials of the ministry will also be present on the occasion.

Through a video tweet, Mr. Pokhriyal informed that  during the COVID pandemic, the HRD Ministry felt the need to focus on continuing education on the academic front and the mental well-being of the students. He further informed that the Ministry has, therefore, taken up an initiative, named, ‘MANODARPAN’ covering a wide range of activities to provide Psychosocial Support to students for their Mental Health & Well-being during the COVID outbreak and beyond.

5 In a first for an Arab nation, UAE launches Mars mission

The United Arab Emirates celebrated in the early hours of Monday morning the launch of its "Hope" probe to Mars, the first interplanetary mission by an Arab nation.

The long-anticipated blast-off of the unmanned spacecraft at 6:58 am local time (2158 GMT Sunday) from Japan's Tanegashima Space Center was met with rapturous applause in the Emirates.

Meanwhile, the command and control centre at Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) -- which spearheaded the Mars project on which some 450 people worked, more than half of them Emirati -- was abuzz with excitement.

The UAE Mars mission's deputy project manager, Sarah al-Amiri, said it was "an indescribable feeling" to witness the rocket launch. "This is the future of the UAE," Amiri, who is also Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, told Dubai TV from the launch site.

6 All capitals cities of North-Eastern states to be connected with rail network by 2023

Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav has said that all capitals of North-Eastern states will be connected to the rail network by 2023.
He said, these are very important projects which topped railway's agenda during the last five years. He told media persons that work to connect capitals of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya is in progress. Mr Yadav said attempts to connect every part of Jammu and Kashmir to the railway are underway at full speed, and the Katra-Banihal rail link project is likely to be completed by December 2022.
 
He said this is a very difficult project and there are a lot of hardships in the last phase because it requires the construction of a large number of tunnels and bridges. He said work on the last stretch of 111 kilometers from Katra to Banihal is in progress and the project is targeted to be completed by December 2022.

7 PM Modi to deliver a keynote virtual address at United Nations Economic and Social Council session today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today deliver a keynote address virtually at this year’s High-Level Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council session to be held at the UN headquarters in New York.

The Prime Minister will be speaking at the valedictory session along with his Norwegian counterpart and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. The annual High-level Segment convenes a diverse group of representatives from the Government, the private sector, civil society and academia. The theme of this year’s High-level Segment is Multilateralism after COVID19: What kind of UN do we need at the 75th anniversary.

Our correspondent reports, this session will focus on critical forces shaping the course of multilateralism and explore ways to bolster the global agenda through strong leadership, effective international institutions, a broadening of participation and enhanced significance of global public goods.

This will be the first opportunity for Mr Modi to address the broader UN membership since India’s overwhelming election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council on 17th of last month, for the term 2021-22.

8 Twitter accounts of Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Joe Biden and others hacked in crypto scam

Several high-profile Twitter accounts were hijacked on July 15 -- including those of US presidential candidate Joe Biden, reality television show star Kim Kardashian, former US President Barack Obama, billionaire Elon Musk and rapper Kanye West, among many others -- used to solicit digital currency.

Many hours after the first wave of hacks, the cause of the breach had not yet been made public.

In a sign of the seriousness of the problem, Twitter took the extraordinary step of preventing at least some verified accounts from publishing messages altogether.

It was not clear whether all verified users were affected but, if they were, it would have a huge impact on the platform and its users. Verified users include celebrities, journalists, and news agencies as well as governments, politicians, heads of state, and emergency services.

9 PM presents new Mantra of 'skill, reskill and upskill' for youth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed a virtual conclave on World Youth Skills Day organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The Prime Minister presented a new mantra for the youth to skill, reskill and upskill in order to remain relevant in the rapidly changing business environment and market conditions.

10 On United Nations' 75th Anniversary, PM Modi to virtually address ECOSOC on July 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually address the valedictory of high-level segment of United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on Friday.
 
This will be Prime Minister Modi's first speech at the United Nations after India reinstated it's place as a non permanent member in the Security Council earlier this year.
 
ECOSOC serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states of the United Nations. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Council since it's formation in 1945.
