1 2 Indian-origin authors shortlisted for British Academy Book Prize

Two authors of Indian heritage, UK-based Nandini Das and US-based Kris Manjapra, are among six worldwide writers on the shortlist unveiled in London on Tuesday for the 2023 British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding, a leading international non-fiction prize worth GBP 25,000.

India-born Nandini Das is in the running for 'Courting India: England, Mughal India and the Origins of Empire' and Caribbean-born Manjapra of mixed African and Indian parentage has been shortlisted for 'Black Ghost of Empire: The Long Death of Slavery and the Failure of Emancipation'.

2 Arrobot develops unmanned guided vehicle for armed forces

A startup from Hyderabad, Arrobot, has developed an Unmanned Guided Vehicle (UGV) for the armed forces.

It will help users in logistics, surveillance and reconnaissance in difficult terrain and environment. It can carry up to 200 kg and tug up to 600 kg and offers a 30-degree view. With additional attachments, it will be able to execute multiple other functions, the startup said on Monday.

The company said it has received at least 10 unique orders for the UGV from multinational companies and Government of India undertakings.

3 62nd edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament will be held from 19th September

The 62nd edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament will be held from 19th September this year. A total of 109 teams from 27 States and Union Territories will participate in the tournament. Under - 17 Junior Boys and Girls tournaments will be held in Delhi and Gurugram, While Under-14 Sub Junior Boys Competition will be held in Bengaluru.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Air Marshal R K Anand and Vice Chairman Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society said, the aim of this tournament is to promote football at grassroots level. He said the teams from Bangladesh and Nepal will also participate in Subroto Cup.

AIR correspondent reports that the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is a prestigious inter-school football tournament that is held annually. The Tournament is named after Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, who conceived the Idea to promote sports at the grassroots level. It is an annual event that began in 1960. This is a unique tournament where in, the champion school teams from all states and foreign countries participate in this tournament.

4 NATO Countries planning to hold biggest military exercise

The NATO Countries are planning to hold the biggest military exercise since the Cold War. It will start in the spring next year. It is expected to involve between 500 and 700 air combat missions, more than 50 ships, and about 41,000 troops. The exercise is designed to model potential manoeuvres against an enemy modelled on a coalition led by Russia, named Occasus for the purposes of the drill. It is to practice repelling a Russian attack against a member of the alliance.

The "Steadfast Defender" exercises is part of NATO's push to transform from crisis response to a war-fighting alliance. The drills will be carried out on the territory of Germany, Poland, and the Baltic countries. Sweden, whose full accession to NATO is yet to be approved, is expected to join the drills. Bringing the total number of nations involved to 32.

5 India-Saudi Arabia sign MoU in several areas including energy, digitalization, and investment

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held bilateral and delegation level talks with Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud in New Delhi. The two leaders reviewed the various facets of bilateral ties and discussed ways to further unlock the potential of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr Modi said, India-Saudi Arabia partnership crucial for stability, welfare of region and world. He said, Saudi Arabia is important for India. Mr Modi again thanked the Crown Prince for his contribution in the success of G20 Summit. He said, yesterday, decision has been taken to start a historic economic corridor between India, West Asia and Europe. The Prime Minister said, this corridor will not only connect two countries but also help in providing economic growth and digital connectivity between Asia, West Asia and Europe. Mr Modi said, under the leadership of Crown Prince and vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has seen tremendous economic growth.

6 Union Home Minister Amit Shah to launch "parivartan yatra" from Dantewada

In Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the "parivartan yatra" from Dantewada in Bastar division today.

The Parivartan Yatra will cover a distance of 1,728 km over 16 days. The second "parivartan yatra" will be launched in Jashpur in north Chhattisgarh by BJP national president J P Nadda on September 16. Both the Yatras would cover a distance of 2,989 km across 87 assembly segments of the state before converging at Bilaspur on September 28.

The opposition BJP will highlight the 'failures' of the Chhattisgarh's Congress government on various fronts during the Parivartan yantras, which will be marked by organising rallies and road shows. Assembly polls are scheduled this year in Chhattisgarh.

7 108 migrants from Pakistan awarded citizenship

In Gujarat, 108 migrants from Pakistan were awarded citizenship by the State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in Ahmedabad today. District Collector of Ahmedabad Praveena DK, MLAs of Ahmedabad, President and members of Sindh Minority Migrants Association, 108 beneficiaries, and their families were present on the occasion.

So far more than 1200  Pakistani Hindu expatriates have been awarded Indian citizenship by Ahmedabad District Collectorate.
It is noted that the Gazette notifications of 2016 and 2018 empower the District Collectors of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Kutch of Gujarat to grant Indian citizenship to the people of minority communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan after following the procedure under the Citizenship Act.

8 Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar to inaugurate International Conference on Dam Safety

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will inaugurate International Conference on Dam Safety at Jaipur in Rajasthan on Thursday. Professionals from across the nation and about fifteen countries are expected to participate in the conference. Jal Shakti Ministry said, there are over six thousand dams in India and it is ranked third globally in terms of large dams. Approximately 80 percent of these dams are over 25 years of age.

9 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates multiple critical infrastructure projects

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate 90 critical infrastructure projects developed by the Border Roads Organization at a cost of 2,941 crore rupees in Jammu and Kashmir today.

He will physically inaugurate the state of the art 422.9 meter long, Class 70 RCC Devak Bridge on Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road in Samba district. It is of strategic importance to Defence Forces and will boost socio-economic development of the region. Other projects will be inaugurated virtually.

The shrimp crop insurance product of Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited is also expected to be launched.
