1 China plans to limit smartphone usage by children to two hours

China’s cyberspace watchdog has put forward plans to limit the usage of smartphones by children to no more than two hours a day and to require all tech companies to introduce a “minor mode” to enable restrictions.

A draft “Guidelines for the Construction of Minor Mode of the Mobile Internet” is open for public comments until September 2, State media reported on August 2.

2 Indiaspora to host G20 Forum in New Delhi

Indiaspora, a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to uniting the Indian diaspora for a stronger, more interconnected global community, announced on August 2 that it will host a G20 Forum in New Delhi later this month to brainstorm the Indian diaspora's role in the country's march towards 2047.

The three-day Indiaspora G20 Forum from August 22 will convene influential voices from around the world to deliberate on critical issues encompassing foreign policy, financial inclusion, climate change, gender equality, healthcare, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, sports, trade and investments and beyond, according to a media release issued by the organisation.

3 Arunachal Dy CM inaugurates state’s first Gas Insulated Substation

Arunachal Pradesh has taken a significant step towards energy sustainability and development by launching its first 133/32 KV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS). This groundbreaking achievement, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday at Nirjuli in Papum Pare district, is set to transform the state’s power infrastructure.

Mein highlighted that “with an impressive capacity of 100 MW, the GIS power substation is poised to meet the region's energy demands for the next 20-25 years, marking a significant leap forward in the power sector.”

4 Bharat Dynamics Limited hands over first Radio Frequency Seeker of Akash to DRDO

The Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has handed over the first Radio Frequency (RF) Seeker of Akash - the Next Generation Weapon System produced at its newly commissioned state-of-the-art Seeker Facility Centre (SFC) to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Seeker is a critical and technology intensive subsystem used in Surface-to-Air Missiles and Air-to-Air Missiles for target tracking in the terminal phase. The RF Seeker has been designed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat, and produced by BDL at its state-of-the-art Seeker Facility Centre set up at BDL, Kanchanbagh Unit in Hyderabad.

5 Country's leading manganese ore producer MOIL Limited records best-ever performance last month since inception

The country's leading manganese ore producer MOIL Limited has recorded its best-ever performance last month since its inception. During last month, the company produced 1.20 lakh tonnes of manganese ore, showcasing a growth of 71 per cent as compared to the same period in the previous year. This is the highest-ever July production of the company. It has also recorded its best-ever sales of 0.94 lakh tonnes during the month, witnessing an impressive growth of 69 percent over the corresponding period last year.

6 Shri Narayan Rane holds discussions on India Health Dialogue Initiative and proposed Maharashtra Global Med Tech Zone (MGMTZ )

India Chamber of Business and Commerce ( India Chamber) in partnership with Ministry of MSME, ICMR and IMA organised Roundtable conference with Union Minister of MSME Shri Narayan Rane and global healthcare Industry Leaders at Udyog Bhawan, New Delhi on 2nd august 2023. 7 Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya delivers keynote address at the 13th Indian Organ Donation Day ceremony

“There cannot be a greater service to humanity than giving life to another person”. This was stated by Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare during his address at the 13th Indian Organ Donation Day (IODD) ceremony, here today. Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar and Prof S P Singh Baghel, Union Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare and Shri Ma Subramanian, Minister of Health, Tamil Nadu were also present. The 13th IODD ceremony was held to felicitate deceased donor families for their brave decision of donating organs of their loved ones, to spread awareness on deceased organ donation and to recognize the contribution of medical professionals working in the field of organ donation and transplantation by awarding them.

8 Government introduces a new category of Ayush visa for foreign nationals

Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has notified the creation of a new category of Ayush (AY) visa for foreign nationals for treatment under Ayush systems/Indian systems of medicine. The introduction of Ayush Visa fulfills the proposal for introduction of a special visa scheme for foreigners visiting India for treatment under Ayush systems/Indian systems of medicine like therapeutic care, wellness and Yoga.

A new chapter i.e. chapter 11A – Ayush Visa has been incorporated after Chapter 11 - Medical visa of the Visa Manual, which deals with treatment under the Indian systems of medicine and accordingly necessary amendments has been made in various chapters of the Visa Manual, 2019.

9 28% GST on online gaming, casinos and horse racing likely to be effective from October 1

The 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on online gaming, casinos and horse racing is expected to be implemented from October 1 this year, said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. However, in a reprieve to the online gaming sector, the government has clarified that the tax will be levied on the contest entry amount, excluding the winnings.

“The GST Council also recommended that valuation of supply of online gaming and actionable claims in casinos may be done based on the amount paid or payable to or deposited with the supplier, by or on behalf of the player (excluding the amount entered into games or bets out of winnings of previous games or bets) and not on the total value of each bet placed,” said Sitharaman on Wednesday after the 51st meeting of the GST Council.

10 India, Lesotho hold meeting of joint bilateral commission for cooperation

India and Lesotho held the 5th round of Joint Bilateral Commission for Cooperation here on Wednesday.

The Indian side was led by Puneet R Kundal, joint secretary (E&SA) in Ministry of External Affairs and the Lesotho side was led by Thabang Polycarp Lekhela, Deputy Principal Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho.
