1 India bags six medals including four Golds at World University Games in Chengdu, China

Indian shooters and archers bagged six medals including four golds at the World University Games in Chengdu, China today. Shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Divyansh Singh Panwar and Arjun Babuta joined forces to outclass local favourites China to win the 10m air rifle men’s team gold. Aishwary also secured gold in the 10m air rifle men’s individual event.
 
Avneet Kaur pipped USA’s Alyssa Grace Sturgill in a thrilling shoot off to clinch the compound women’s individual gold. Sangampreet Bisla and Aman Saini clinched the gold and bronze medals in the men’s individual event. India have won 17 medals, nine gold, three silver and five bronze, and are second in the tournament. Hosts China lead the standings with a haul of 21 medals.

2 Siddhanta Gogoi crowned 61kg junior Asian champion; Gyaneshwari, Koyel win silver medals

India's Siddhanta Gogoi clinched the men's 61kg junior title while Gyaneshwari Yadav and Koyel Bar secured silver medals in the women's 49kg event at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships here on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Siddhanta, who had upstaged senior Shubham Todkar earlier this month at the Commonwealth Championships, lifted 265kg (116kg+149kg) to give hosts India their first gold medal of the ongoing edition.

It was 5kg better than his 260kg (112kg+148kg) effort that fetched him the CWC junior title and would have won him the senior title as well had he competed.

3 India wins gold in mixed team compound archery

The compound mixed archery team of Aman Saini and Pragati clinched a gold medal, India’s fourth in the event, at the World University Games in Chengdu, China on Sunday.

Aman and Pragati put up a brilliant show in the final to win the yellow metal, beating their rivals 157-156 in a thrilling summit clash.

India is currently placed fourth in the medal standings with 10 medals including four gold, two silver and four bronze.

4 Iga Swiatek beats Laura Siegemund to win Warsaw Open

Iga Swiatek cruised to the title in her home tournament, the Warsaw Open with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over exhausted Laura Siegemund on Sunday.

The world No. 1 completed two busy days by sweeping aside her German opponent in 68 minutes for a second victory of the day.

“I wanted to put it all in and go for it. I’m pretty happy that I did,” Swiatek said in her winner’s speech.

5 Niger Coup: General Leading The Mutiny Declared Head Of State

The rebellious military personnel in Niger on Friday declared their military leader as the new head of state.

Earlier on Wednesday, the military in Niger detained the country's first and only democratically-elected president since 1960. President Mohamed Bazoum has been in detention since then.

Niger's new leader General Abdourahmane Tchiani, who was announced on state television by spokesman Col. Maj. Amadou Abdramane, has asked for the national and international support amid concerns that the coup could hinder the country's fight against jihadists.

6 Think20 Summit under India’s G20 Presidency to begin today in Mysuru, Karnataka

Observer Research Foundation (ORF), as the Think20 Secretariat under India’s G20 Presidency, will host the Think20 Summit in Mysuru from today till August 2. 7 G20 EMPOWER Summit to begin tomorrow in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

The two-day long G20 EMPOWER Summit will begin tomorrow in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani will inaugurate the summit. The inaugural session will see the launch of key outcomes under the G20 EMPOWER agenda this year including the G20 EMPOWER Tech Equity Digital Inclusion Platform, the Best Practices Playbook, the KPI Dashboard, and the adoption of the G20 EMPOWER Communique 2023.
 
The summit, organized around the theme- ‘Women-Led Development: ensuring a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable global economic growth’, will witness the participation of delegates from across G20 nations, invited guest countries and international organizations in addition to many global experts, policymakers and stakeholders. 8 India & LAO PDR sign MOUs For Five Quick Impact Projects

Five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between India & LAO PDR for the implementation of five Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in the fields of education, health, water facility and IT. The MOUs were signed during the 3rd round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held between India and Lao PDR in Vientiane. Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Foreign Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR led their side and Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs led the Indian side, respectively.

India & LAO PDR share profound religious, cultural, and people-to-people connections stretching far back into history. The countries also share excellent political relations, which is why Lao PDR has been supportive of regional & international concerns about India, including our claim of permanent membership of the UNSC.

9 India to home South Asia's first-ever Center for Species Survival

With a vision to create a just world that values and conserves nature, IUCN Species Survival Commission has partnered with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to set up the first-ever Center for Species Survival in South Asia.

In this regard, an MoU has been signed between Prof. Jon Paul Rodríguez, Chair—IUCN SSC and Vivek Menon, Executive Director, Wildlife Trust of India to set up the first-ever regional Center for Species Survival (CSS) in India. This will be the 10th Centre for Species Survival in the world and the first of its kind in South Asia.

This collaborative effort aims to enhance conservation efforts by wildlife experts and specialist groups and safeguard the rich biodiversity of India.

10 Amazon India announces to open first floating store in Dal lake

As a part of last point delivery programme 'I Have Space', Amazon India has announced to open its first ever floating store in famous Dal Lake in Srinagar. The store should be open in a house boat and will provide deliveries to its customers every day in Srinagar.

Murtaza Khan Kashi, owner of houseboat Selec Town, will deliver packages every day to customers at the doorstep of their houseboats as part of the onboarding.

Amazon Logistics, India, Director Karuna Shankar Pande said this will provide faster and reliable deliveries to customers across Srinagar, opportunities for small businesses and strengthen Amazon's delivery network.
