India will launch a BRICS startup forum this year to facilitate collaboration and share best practices among investors, incubators and aspiring entrepreneurs, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said.

BRICS is a grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

He announced this during the seventh BRICS Industry Ministers' meeting hosted virtually with South Africa.

Goyal said that the Startup India initiative of the central government has led to the creation of nearly 100,000 startups in the country and on account of this New Delhi can offer its support to other BRICS members in this segment.

The Kerala assembly unanimously passed a resolution against the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the country by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government

On Tuesday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan moved the resolution in the Assembly against the UCC implementation and called it a "unilateral and hasty" step taken by the Centre.

Further Vijayan claimed that the UCC was based upon the Hindu text of Manusmriti rather than the Indian Constitution and was a visualisation by the Sangh Parivar.

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Northern Railway is all set to cross another milestone soon by starting Kashmir's first electric train on the 137 km Banihal-Baramulla corridor as the electrification of the 324 crore rupees project is in its final stage. Indian Railway officials said that work on the project was going on since August 2019. Bittu Kumar, Engineer RS Infra Pvt Ltd said that the project will be ready for inauguration by next month as 90% work of electrification has been done.

With the commencement and electrification of this train, air pollution is expected to decrease manifold.  Currently, 19 trains are in service with seven trains running regularly on Baramulla- Banihal sector in J&K. About 30,000 passengers including students and office goers travel daily in the trains. Kashmir got its first train service in 2013 which was inaugurated by then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. It is notable that the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway (USBRL) railway track is being laid to connect Kashmir with the rest of the country.

To celebrate National Handloom Day, NIFT Mumbai has organised ‘Hastavem’, an exhibition of Handloom Textiles at NIFT Mumbai Campus. The exhibition, 'Hastvem: a celebration of Indian Handlooms,' features a remarkable collection of 60 pieces of handloom sourced from the faculty, staff, and the Resource Centre of NIFT Mumbai.

The exhibition was inaugurated today by President of the WICCI Maharashtra Handloom Council  Savitha Suri, who is also a Textile Researcher, Author and Curator; and, Educationist Bhamini Subramaniam, who is a Design Thinker with over 35 years of experience in the profession of Textile Design, Fashion, Interiors, and Product Design.

Justice Subhasis Talapatra today took oath as the 33rd Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal administered him the oath.

Justice Talapatra, who was working as a judge in the Orissa High Court, succeeded Justce Dr S Muralidhar following his superannuation yesterday.

The name of Justice Talapatra, as the Chief Justice, was recommend  by the Supreme Court Collegium last month which was later approved by the Central Government.

The Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad and Kathmandu University (KU) have agreed to offer a Joint Doctoral Programme (JDP) at the Ph.D. level in all areas of research. Several decisions to strengthen the ties between the two Institutes have been taken during the recent visit of the IIT-H delegation to KU. 

According to an official release, students from India and Nepal will have the opportunity to work on frontier areas of science, technology, design, and medical innovations under the programme. The students admitted to the JDP at KU will have an opportunity to spend up to one year at IIT-H, supported by an IIT-H scholarship during their stay at IIT-H and vice versa. This association is aimed at developing successful academic and research collaborations in the areas of common interest and complementary capabilities.

The Haryana government is planning to build a dam at a cost of 6,134 crore rupees. It will have a 14-km-long reservoir and will be built 4.5 km upstream from the Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar district. Once the project is completed, the state will have greater availability of irrigation water, groundwater recharge, and aquaculture, apart from generation of 250 MW of electricity.

Its reservoir will have a capacity of 10.82 lakh cusecs. This is likely to prevent floods caused by the Yamuna in Delhi and in adjoining areas of the river in Haryana. The dam area also shares borders with Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Parliament has approved the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Rajya Sabha passed the bill yesterday while Lok Sabha had cleared it on 1st of this month.
 
Replying to discussion on the bill, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said, the bill has been brought to simplify the birth and death registration and it will be completely digital. He said the data received will help in making social schemes for the benefit of the people.

Mr. Rai said it will be a very important document for different works like getting driving licence and admission into educational institutions. The Minister said, according to the bill, the Birth and Death certificates can be received within seven days.
