Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita will be on a visit to Moscow, Russia, from 1st October to 3rd of next month. The Minister will inaugurate the Best of India – Indian Apparel and Textile Fair in Moscow.

In a statement, The Ministry of Textiles said that the fair will serve as a strategic gateway for Indian exporters to expand their presence in Russia and CIS markets. Over 100 Indian companies are expected to participate, showcasing products ranging from handloom and handicrafts to home furnishings, carpets, linens, apples, and garments

During the visit, The Minister will also hold a bilateral meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and the Russian Union of Entrepreneurs of the Textile and Apparel Industry. The Ministry said that these engagements aims to provide an opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, and the textile sectors and explore avenues for enhancing collaboration between Indian and Russian businesses.

India and Bhutan have agreed to establish two cross-border rail links projects at a total outlay of four thousand 33 crore rupees. The Railway Project includes Kokrajhar-Gelephu and Banarhat-Samtse.

Addressing a joint press conference in New Delhi, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project will connect two important cities of Bhutan, namely Gelephu and Samtse. He said, these two projects will take off from the Indian Railway network at Kokrajhar in Assam and Banarhat in West Bengal. Mr Vaishnaw added that around 69 kilometer 69-kilometre-long rail route project between Kokrajhar and Gelephu will be constructed at an estimated cost of three thousand 456 crore rupees, While the 20-kilometre-long long Banarhat-Samtse rail project will be constructed at a cost of 577 crore rupees. The Minister said that the entire investment in these railway projects will be made by India.

One of the 16 cheetahs born in India will reach adulthood on Monday (September 29, 2025) at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh, marking a hopeful turn for the three-year-old reintroduction efforts, an official said on Sunday (28 September, 2025).

“Mukhi, a female cub born to Namibian cheetah Jwala on March 29, 2023, will reach adulthood, as it will turn 915 days or 30 months old, on Monday (September 29, 2025), ready to contribute to increasing the cheetah population in India,” Project Cheetah Director Uttam Kumar Sharma told PTI.

"Of the four cubs Jwala delivered, three died due to extreme heat, but Mukhi survived and has grown well. Today our efforts have yielded encouraging results," Mr. Sharma said.

The Centre has appointed Shirish Chandra Murmu as the next deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a three-year term. The appointment comes in the wake of the retirement of M Rajeshwar Rao early next month. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which is headed by the Prime Minister, on Monday approved his appointment, a government notification said on Monday.

The governor, and the four deputy governors of the Reserve Bank are appointed by the government and are government servants and not employees of the central bank. The appointment of Murmu, who is currently an executive director, will take effect from October 9. Murmu will replace Rajeshwar Rao, who is currently the senior most deputy governor in charge of banking regulation and other portfolios. Rao’s term ends on October 8.

International Translation Day is observed on September 30 every year to recognise translation professionals who help connect nations.

September 30 is also the day that celebrates the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator, who is considered to be the patron saint of translators. He is known for translating most of the Bible into Latin from the Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. He also translated parts of the Hebrew Gospel into Greek.

International Translation Day history

In 1991, the International Federation of Translators (FIT) launched the idea of an officially recognised International Translation Day to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, who play an important role in facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation.

On 24 May 2017, the General Assembly adopted resolution 71/288 declaring September 30 International Translation Day, recognising the role of professional translation in connecting nations.

In a move to address India's shortage of healthcare professionals, the Union cabinet on Wednesday approved a plan to add 10,023 new medical college seats by the financial year 2028-2029.

With a ₹15,034.50 crore investment, the initiative will create 5,023 undergraduate (MBBS) and 5,000 postgraduate (PG) seats, the government said in a statement.

The centrally sponsored scheme focuses on a strategic and cost-effective approach: strengthening and upgrading existing state and central government medical colleges, standalone postgraduate institutes, and government hospitals.

According to the statement, the scheme will help increase the availability of doctors and specialists in the country, thereby improving access to quality healthcare, especially in underserved areas.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is on a one-day visit to Bihar today. Upon arriving in Patna, he first paid tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan by laying flowers at his statue at JP Golambar. India’s Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve in Himachal Pradesh has been included in UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav announced on Saturday. The recognition came during the 37th Session of UNESCO’s International Coordinating Council – Man and the Biosphere, held on September 27.

With this addition, India now has 13 biosphere reserves listed in the prestigious global network, underscoring the country’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and community-driven sustainable development, the minister said in a post on X.

The announcement follows closely on the heels of India’s designation of two new Ramsar sites in Bihar—Gokul Jalashay, spanning 448 hectares in Buxar district, and Udaipur Jheel, covering 319 hectares in West Champaran district. With these additions, India’s tally of Ramsar sites, recognized as wetlands of international importance, has risen to 93, covering a total area of 13,60,719 hectares.

In the Para World Archery Championships, India secured a total of seven medals and won two historic individual compound gold medals on the final day of competition today in Gwangju, South Korea.

The highlight was 18-year-old Sheetal Devi, who scripted history by becoming the first woman armless archer to win a world championship gold in the compound individual section. Devi defeated Turkiye’s world No. 1 Oznur Cure Girdi 146-143 in the final.

Devi’s gold was quickly replicated by her male counterpart, Toman Kumar, who claimed the gold medal in the corresponding men’s compound individual event.

India concluded the championship with seven medals, including three Gold, one silver and three bronze.

In football, India clinched their seventh SAFF U17 Championship crown, holding their nerves to edge past Bangladesh 4-1 in a tense penalty shootout in Colombo yesterday.

In a contest where India led 2-1 at half-time with goals from Dallamuon Gangte and Azlaan Shah KH, Bangladesh clawed back with a last-minute equaliser from Ihsan Habib Riduan to level things up at 2-2 and force a shootout.

The penalty shootout saw India showing maturity beyond their age at the Racecourse International Stadium.
