| 3 | First India-born cheetah set to reach adulthood in Kuno National Park | One of the 16 cheetahs born in India will reach adulthood on Monday (September 29, 2025) at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh, marking a hopeful turn for the three-year-old reintroduction efforts, an official said on Sunday (28 September, 2025). “Mukhi, a female cub born to Namibian cheetah Jwala on March 29, 2023, will reach adulthood, as it will turn 915 days or 30 months old, on Monday (September 29, 2025), ready to contribute to increasing the cheetah population in India,” Project Cheetah Director Uttam Kumar Sharma told PTI. "Of the four cubs Jwala delivered, three died due to extreme heat, but Mukhi survived and has grown well. Today our efforts have yielded encouraging results," Mr. Sharma said. |

| 4 | Govt appoints SC Murmu as next RBI Deputy Governor | The Centre has appointed Shirish Chandra Murmu as the next deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India for a three-year term. The appointment comes in the wake of the retirement of M Rajeshwar Rao early next month. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which is headed by the Prime Minister, on Monday approved his appointment, a government notification said on Monday. The governor, and the four deputy governors of the Reserve Bank are appointed by the government and are government servants and not employees of the central bank. The appointment of Murmu, who is currently an executive director, will take effect from October 9. Murmu will replace Rajeshwar Rao, who is currently the senior most deputy governor in charge of banking regulation and other portfolios. Rao’s term ends on October 8. |

With a ₹15,034.50 crore investment, the initiative will create 5,023 undergraduate (MBBS) and 5,000 postgraduate (PG) seats, the government said in a statement. The centrally sponsored scheme focuses on a strategic and cost-effective approach: strengthening and upgrading existing state and central government medical colleges, standalone postgraduate institutes, and government hospitals. According to the statement, the scheme will help increase the availability of doctors and specialists in the country, thereby improving access to quality healthcare, especially in underserved areas. |

| 8 | India’s Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve joins UNESCO’s World Network, two New Ramsar sites added in Bihar | India’s Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve in Himachal Pradesh has been included in UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav announced on Saturday. The recognition came during the 37th Session of UNESCO’s International Coordinating Council – Man and the Biosphere, held on September 27. With this addition, India now has 13 biosphere reserves listed in the prestigious global network, underscoring the country’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and community-driven sustainable development, the minister said in a post on X. The announcement follows closely on the heels of India’s designation of two new Ramsar sites in Bihar—Gokul Jalashay, spanning 448 hectares in Buxar district, and Udaipur Jheel, covering 319 hectares in West Champaran district. With these additions, India’s tally of Ramsar sites, recognized as wetlands of international importance, has risen to 93, covering a total area of 13,60,719 hectares. |
