1 India's first indigenously built Destroyer, INS Delhi, concludes its successful goodwill visit to Colombo

Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, the Chief Guest at the reception, received a HADR Medical (Aarogya Maitri) kit from the High Commissioner on behalf of the Sri Lankan government. Mr. Abeyawardena expressed gratitude for India's continued support and emphasized the close ties between the two maritime neighbors.

Commander of INS Delhi Captain Abhishek Kumar and the crew paid respects at the Indian Peace Keeping Forces memorial and engaged in activities like yoga and beach cleaning with the Sri Lanka Navy. The visit also included a Maritime Partnership Exercise.

INS Delhi opened its doors to school children and the public, fostering greater understanding, while professional interactions were held for Sri Lanka Navy personnel. This visit reflects India's commitment to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and the 'Security and Growth for All in the Region' doctrine.

2 Fourth and final Sherpa meeting begins in Haryana’s Mewat ahead of G20 Summit

The fourth and final Sherpa meeting of the G20 Summit began on Sunday in Haryana’s Mewat and will continue until September 7. This meeting will lay down the final agenda for the upcoming G20 Summit, which is scheduled to take place in Delhi on September 9-10.

Apart from the member countries of the G20 Summit, Sherpas and other delegates are participating in the high-level meeting. Twenty-three liaison officers, 19 state civil services officers and four IAS officers have been deputed who will play a vital role in assisting and facilitating participants during the event.

3 ISRO successfully completes first earth-bound manoeuvre to raise orbit of India's maiden solar mission Aditya L1

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully performed the first earth-bound manoeuvre of the country's maiden solar mission, Aditya L1, from its Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network in Bengaluru. In its post on social media platform, the Indian Space Agency said, ISTRAC successfully carried out the Earth bound maneuver on Sunday and the spacecraft has attained a new orbit of 245 kms by 22,459 kms. It added that the satellite is healthy and operating normally.
 
The next maneuver is scheduled on Tuesday around 3 am Indian Standard Time. The satellite will undergo four Earth bound orbital manoeuvres before placing in the transfer orbit towards the Lagrange point L1 in 125 days. Aditya L1 mission will provide information on Solar corona and conduct in-situ observations of the solar wind at L1 also known as Lagrange Point-1 which is about 1.5 million kilometres away from Earth. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C57 had successfully launched Aditya L1 spacecraft on Saturday.

4 CBC chief Manish Desai appointed principal director general of PIB

Central Bureau of Communications (CBC) chief Manish Desai will take over the government’s media outreach unit Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Friday, the ministry of information and broadcasting said on Thursday.

The senior Indian Information Service officer Manish Desai was appointed as the principal director general of the PIB on Wednesday, it said.

A 1989 IIS officer, Desai took over the CBC last year. He will assume charge of PIB on the superannuation of Rajesh Malhotra, who has been at the helm of the media outreach unit since 2022.

5 Shri V. L. Kantha Rao takes charge as Secretary, Ministry of Mines

Shri V.L. Kantha Rao who belongs to the 1992 Batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Madhya Pradesh Cadre assumed charge as the new Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, here today. Prior to this he was serving as the Additional Secretary of Ministry of Telecommunications, a position where he played a key role in contributing towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat. He has been instrumental in successful execution of initiatives under the Digital Communication Policy, Regulatory recommendations, International Relations and Universal connectivity.

Shri Rao has taken the charge of Secretary of Mines from Shri Vivek Bharadwaj IAS (1989 Batch). Shri Bharadwaj was instrumental in bringing major reforms in the mineral sector through the recent amendments to Mines and Mineral (Development & Regulation) Amendment Act & the Offshore Areas Mineral (Development & Regulation) Amendment Act. Furthermore, in his stewardship, the country has been able to identify 30 critical minerals.

6 CCI approves Vistara-Air India merger


The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Friday approved the merger of Vistara with Air India as well as allowed Singapore Airlines to acquire 25.1% stake in the erstwhile national carrier.

The CCI announced the decision through a post on X (formerly Twitter).

With this CCI nod, Air India has completed a major regulatory procedure towards becoming a company that comprises four airlines, including AirAsia India and Air India Express apart from Vistara.

7 Bajaj Auto's subsidiary gets RBI registration for NBFC business

Bajaj Auto's subsidiary, Bajaj Auto Consumer Finance, has received the Certificate of Registration from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to start the business of the non-banking finance company (NBFC), the company informed the stock exchanges in its filing on September 1, according to MoneyControl reports.

In the exchange filing, Bajaj Auto said, “We would like to inform you that Bajaj Auto Consumer Finance Limited, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Bajaj Auto Limited, has received on 31 August 2023 from RBI a Certificate of Registration, bearing No. N-13.02465 dated 29 August 2023 under section 45-IA of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934 to commence/carry on the business of nonbanking financial institution without accepting public deposits, subject to the conditions given in the said certificate."

Bajaj Allianz Life has launched a unique fund proposition in the ULIP segment. Bajaj Allianz Life’s Dynamic Asset Allocation Fund offers customers the opportunity to allocate between equity and debt, dynamically. 10 Indian-origin Tharman Shanmugaratnam wins Singapore's presidential election

Indian-origin Singapore economist Tharman Shanmugaratnam has won the Presidential election in the country. Tharman Shanmugaratnam defeated two contenders of Chinese origin in the country's first contested presidential polls since 2011.

In the presidential elections, Tharman Shanmugaratnam secured 70.4 per cent votes. The other contenders – Ng Kok Song and Tan Kin Lian – who contested against Tharman Shanmugaratnam bagged 15.7 per cent and 13.88 per cent votes, respectively.
