2 NIDM, TERI sign strategic partnership in disaster risk reduction

The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to forge a strategic partnership in disaster risk reduction. Speaking during an event on 24th Nov 2023, Friday, the Executive Director of NIDM Rajendra Ratnoo said that this partnership signifies a joint commitment to contribute to the national agenda of disaster risk reduction, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in building a resilient and safer India.

The MOU will serve as a platform to formalise the strategic partnership and facilitate research, capacity building, and training. According to NIDM currently 260 universities and institutions are part of the disaster risk reduction programme.

3 Union Minister Devusinh Chauhan inaugurates Hamfest 2023 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan on Saturday inaugurated Hamfest 2023 at Science City, Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chauhan lauded the role of ham radio in helping people during natural calamities like earthquakes and cyclones.

The minister also said that the government will make necessary efforts to ensure that there is at least one Ham radio operator in each village of the country. More than 800 Ham Radio operators from all over the country are participating in the two-day conclave.

4 Centre renames Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres as Ayushman Arogya Mandir

The central government on Sunday (26 November 2023) renamed Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centres as Ayushman Arogya Mandir with the tagline Arogyam Paramam Dhanam. In a letter to all States and Union Territories, the Union Health Ministry has issued guidelines to suitably replace the existing title across all operationalized Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres. The Ministry has also asked to upload pictures of the primary health facilities upon successful completion of the renaming task.

5 PM Modi to take part in World Climate Action Summit in Dubai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the World Climate Action Summit (WCAS) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), during the 28th Conference of Parties (CoP-28), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on November 26.

Mr. Modi will be present from November 30 to December 1 as part of WCAS proceedings. CoP-28 is being held from November 28 to December 12, under the Presidency of the UAE.

At this event, also called the “high-level segment”, world leaders or their representatives are expected to make statements on behalf of their countries outlining their intent and contribution to stemming greenhouse gas emissions. There is no official confirmation yet if the Prime Minister will make a statement.

8 Irish author Paul Lynch’s ‘Prophet Song’ wins Booker Prize 2023

Irish author Paul Lynch’s “Prophet Song” was named the winner of the Booker Prize 2023, beating London-based Indian-origin author Chetna Maroo’s debut novel “Western Lane”, at a ceremony in London.

Lynch, 46, won for his novel presenting a dystopian vision of Ireland in the grips of totalitarianism, something the author describes as “an attempt at radical empathy”. Set in Dublin, “Prophet Song” tells the story of a family grappling with a terrifying new world in which the democratic norms they are used to begin to disappear.

“I was trying to see into the modern chaos. The unrest in Western democracies. The problem of Syria – the implosion of an entire nation, the scale of its refugee crisis and the West’s indifference,” said Lynch, who won the GBP 50,000 literary award.

9 Christopher Luxon swears in as New Zealand’s prime minister

Christopher Luxon has been sworn in as New Zealand’s prime minister today. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Governor-General Cindy Kiro.
