Elon Musk’s controversial startup Neuralink has implanted a chip in a human brain for the first time, the billionaire said in a post on his X platform late Monday.

The operation took place on Sunday and the patient was recovering well, he added.

Musk’s announcement could mark an important milestone for Neuralink’s efforts to usher potentially life-transforming technology out of the lab and into the real world. But he offered few details, and it’s unclear from Musk’s post how significant of a scientific advancement the implantation represents.

Making amendments to State Solar Policy 2016 that resulted in 1500 MW solar power installed capacity in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has come out with a more consumer-friendly Solar Policy 2024 that will provide 4500 megawatts of installed capacity of solar power in Delhi by 2027.

Addressing media persons on Monday, CM Kejriwal said that the Delhi Solar Policy 2016, announced in the first term of the AAP government after coming to power in 2015, laid the foundation for solar adoption in Delhi.

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on Tuesday said it has bagged a project to set up a solar power plant in Dubai.

The order has been bagged by the renewable engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) arm of L&T's power transmission and distribution business.

The project involves setting up a "solar photovoltaic plant in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates," the company said in a filing to BSE.

The second edition of India Energy Week (IEW) is scheduled to commence in Goa from February 6 to 9. During the curtain-raiser press conference held on Monday, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, shared that IEW 2024 is expected to attract ministerial-level participation from 17 countries, with an expected attendance of over 35,000 and more than 900 exhibitors.

Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has been sentenced to 10 years in jail in a case in which he was charged with leaking state secrets.

Khan, who was ousted by his opponents as PM in 2022, is already serving a three-year jail term after being convicted of corruption.

He has called all the charges against him politically motivated.

The conviction under the secrets act comes the week before general elections in which he is barred from standing.

ADNOC Gas on Tuesday signed a 10-year agreement to supply 0.5 million metric tons per year of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to India’s largest Natural Gas Company, GAIL (India) Limited.

ADNOC Gas’s parent Abu Dhabi National Oil Company has sharpened its focus on the gas market, seeing it as a transition fuel as the world tries to curb planet-warming emissions, and as competition for LNG has ramped up since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

“India continues to be a key market for ADNOC Gas, and this latest supply agreement underscores our ongoing dedication to fostering long-term partnerships that promote responsible energy consumption,” Ahmed Mohamed Alebri, ADNOC Gas chief executive said.

Rana Talwar, the first person from Asia to head a global bank (Standard Chartered) passed away on Saturday at the age of 76 after being unwell for some time.

“We regret to inform about the sad demise of non-executive director Gurvirendra Singh (Rana) Talwar, which was intimated to the company by the family members,” real estate giant DLF said in a regulatory filing, reported the Times of India.

Talwar was a board member at DLF, having joined the realty major in 2006. He will be cremated at Delhi's Lodhi Road cremation ground on Sunday.

The Narendra Modi government on Monday extended ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as an ‘unlawful association’ for five years under the UAPA.

“Bolstering PM @narendramodi Ji's vision of zero tolerance against terrorism ‘Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI)’ has been declared as an 'Unlawful Association' for a further period of five years under the UAPA. The SIMI has been found involved in fomenting terrorism, disturbing peace and communal harmony to threaten the sovereignty, security and integrity of Bharat,” the home ministry's office posted on social platform X.

Responding to a distress call from an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel hijacked by pirates along the East coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Navy rescued 17 crew members by sending a warship to the area.

As per the Navy, INS Sumitra — a warship on Anti-Piracy Operations along the East coast of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden — responded to a distress message regarding the hijacking of an Iranian-flagged Fishing Vessel (FV) Iman. Somali pirates had boarded the vessel and took the crew as hostages.

In a statement, the Navy said INS Sumitra “intercepted the vessel, acted in accordance with the established SOPs to coerce the pirates to safely release the crew along with the boat and ensured the successful release of all 17 crew members along with the boat”.
