1 In a first in India, Avalanche monitoring radar installed in North Sikkim

An avalanche monitoring radar, the first of its kind in India, has been installed in North Sikkim by the Army and Defence Geoinformatics and Research Establishment (DGRE). It has the capability to detect avalanches within three seconds of its trigger and will assist in saving lives of troops and reducing damage to property in super high altitude areas.

2 New Delhi: Dr. M Srinivas appointed as director of AIIMS

Dr M Srinivas has been appointed as the director of All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr Srinivas who is Dean of ESIC  Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad, will succeed Randeep Guleria who has been holding the post since March 2017.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas to the post of AIIMS director. His appointment is for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or till attaining the age of 65 years.

3 Defence Ministry signs contract worth 1700 crore rupees to acquire additional Brahmos missiles for frontline warships

Providing further impetus to Aatmanirbharta in defence production, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the acquisition of additional dual-role capable Surface to Surface BrahMos missiles at an overall approximate cost of 1700 Crore rupees under Buy-Indian Category. 

Induction of these dual-role capable Missiles is going to significantly enhance the operational capability of Indian Navy fleet assets.

It is notable that BAPL is a Joint Venture between India and Russia making a crucial contribution to augmenting the new generation of Surface-to-Surface Missiles with enhanced range and dual role capability for land as well as anti-ship attacks.

4 Collection of selected speeches of PM Modi to be released at Akashvani Bhawan in New Delhi today

A collection of selected speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be released today, September 23, at Akashvani Bhawan in New Delhi. The book titled 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas-Prime Minister Narendra Modi Speaks' portrays the PM's vision of a new India.

The release function of the book will be graced by Governor of Kerala Arif Mohammed Khan, former Vice-President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu along with Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. Secretary of I&B Ministry Apurva Chandra and other senior officials will also be present at the event. The function will be organised by the Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

5 Veteran Assamese swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika becomes the first from North East to cross North Channel

Veteran Assamese swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika - has become the first from the North East to cross the North Channel.

The North Channel is the strait between north-eastern Northern Ireland and south-western Scotland. Elvis and his team clocked a timing of 14 hours 38 minutes to achieve this feat. With this, Elvis has become the oldest Indian swimmer to cross the North Channel.

6 Defence Ministry signs MoU with Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank under SPARSH- System for Pension Administration initiative

The Defence Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding, MoU, with Bank of Baroda and HDFC Bank under the SPARSH- System for Pension Administration initiative with an objective to cover seventeen lakh, defence pensioners, across the country.
 
Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said that seventeen lakh pensioners out of the total thirty-two lakh defence pensioners will be added with SPARSH by the end of this month. He said the remaining pensioners will be brought at the earliest.  The Defence Secretary highlighted that the average time in pension settlement has come down significantly to about 16 days.

7 India wins UN award for India Hypertension Control Initiative

In a significant achievement and recognition of country’s efforts against hypertension, India has won a UN award for its “India Hypertension Control Initiative, IHCI which is a large-scale hypertension intervention under National Health Mission.

The IHCI has been recognized for its exceptional work within India’s existing primary healthcare system. The IHCI has won the ‘2022 UN Interagency Task Force and WHO Special Programme on Primary Health Care Award’ at the UN General Assembly side event held in New York, USA Today. The award recognizes the outstanding commitment and action of India to prevent and control Non-Communicable Diseases and deliver integrated people-centric primary care.

8 Union Ministry of Food Processing, Agriculture launches Convergence Portal

Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries today jointly launched a Convergence Portal between Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

The convergence portal was launched in the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. Union Food Processing Industries Pashupati Kumar Paras and Minister of State for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary. On the occasion, Mr Tomar said, it is the idea of Prime Minister  Narendra Modi that all Ministries and  Departments of the Government should work together in cohesion to serve the people of the country to the best of their abilities.

9 Bangladesh score a historic win to lift SAFF Women’s Championship

Bangladesh won a historic victory at the SAFF Women’s Championship to lift the maiden title at the Dashrath Rangshala Stadium in Kathmandu yesterday. The Bangladesh team defeated hosts Nepal by 3-1 in the finals before a full stadium watching some brilliant football on display.

Starting with an early injury to one of its star performers Sirat Jahan Swapna in the 10th minute, Bangladesh came on top with the replacement Shamsunnahar Jr scoring a goal only four minutes later. Krishna Rani Sarkar scored the other two goals to secure a resounding victory for Bangladesh to claim the SAFF title.

In the rain-soaked stadium, Krishna Rani Sarkar scored the second goal in the 42nd minute with a brilliant pass from the skipper Sabina Khatun.

10 India, Egypt sign MoU to bolster defence cooperation across all sectors of mutual interest

India and Egypt have agreed to identify proposals for expanding cooperation between the defence industries of the two countries in a time-bound manner. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with his Egyptian counterpart General Mohamed Zaki in Cairo yesterday.

Both sides discussed steps to strengthen defence ties and reached a consensus to enhance conduct of joint exercises and exchange of personnel for training especially in the field of counter-insurgency.

The two Ministers also exchanged views on regional security and acknowledged the contribution of India and Egypt to peace and stability in the world.
