Indian athlete Shaili Singh bags bronze medal at Golden Grand Prix 2023 athletics meet in Japan

Indian athlete Shaili Singh clinched a bronze medal at the Golden Grand Prix 2023 athletics meet in the women's long jump event in Yokohama, Japan.

Last night, Shaili Singh attempted a jump of 6.65 meter, which provided her third place on the podium at the Yokohama meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour gold label event.

Germany’s Maryse Luzolo won the gold medal with an effort of 6.79 meter while Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl bagged the silver medal with a 6.77 meter leap.



RBI clarifies, 10 notes of Rs 2000 can be exchanged at a time from bank without obtaining any requisition slip

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said on Sunday that people can exchange ten notes of two thousand rupees at a time from the bank without obtaining any requisition slip. RBI further clarified, the people will also not be required to submit their identity proof at the time of exchange for upto a limit of twenty thousand rupees.

RBI has said members of the public may deposit two thousand rupees banknotes into their bank accounts or exchange them into banknotes of other denominations at any bank branch by 30th September this year.. The two thousand rupees notes, however, will continue to be legal tender.



PM praises launch of India’s first domestic commercial flight on SAF

Prime Minister praised the historic step of making aviation fuel from ethanol and launch of India’s first domestic commercial flight on indigenous feedstock and Sustainable Aviation Fuel. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and K V Viswanathan sworn in as Supreme Court judges

Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and senior advocate K V Viswanathan were sworn in as judges of the Supreme Court today. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud.
 
With this, the working strength of Supreme Court has reached its sanctioned judge strength of 34. It was working with 32 judges following the retirement of Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and M R Shah. The Supreme Court Collegium headed by the Chief Justice had recommended their names on 16th May after which the government approved it and notified their appointments yesterday.



PM Modi holds bilateral meeting with Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida ahead of G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan today. He reached Hiroshima last evening to a resounding welcome from the Indian diaspora.

On the sidelines of the G7 Summit today, Prime Minister Modi met Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida in Hiroshima. Both the leaders discussed ways to enhance India-Japan friendship across different sectors including trade, economy and culture.



RBI withdraws Rs 2000 notes from circulation under Clean Note Policy; To remain legal tender

The Reserve Bank of India has decided to withdraw two thousand Rupees denomination banknotes from circulation under the “Clean Note Policy”. The 2,000 rupee notes, however, will continue to be legal tender.

RBI has said members of the public may deposit 2,000 rupee banknotes into their bank accounts or exchange them for banknotes of other denominations at any bank branch.

Arjun Ram Meghwal is new law minister, Kiren Rijiju assigned Ministry of earth sciences; MoS Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel moves to Health Ministry

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal has been assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios.

Mr Meghwal will replace Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. According to the Rastrapati Bhavan communique, Mr Rijiju who was serving as Law and Justice Minister will now hold the portfolio of Ministry of Earth Sciences. President Droupadi Murmu allocated the portfolios to these Ministers on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.



MoUs for two projects to be implemented under GoI grant assistance signed today aim at improving quality of life for people in Nepal

The Embassy of India, Kathmandu, and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Government of Nepal signed Memorandums of Understanding for undertaking two High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal under the grant assistance of Government of India - one each in health care and education sectors, at a total estimated cost of NRs. 80.33 million.

The construction of these two projects aims at providing better health care and education facilities for the local community and improving the quality of life for people in Nepal. The construction of Malagiri Shanti Yogashram, Ramechhap District, and Kedar Jyotipunja Multiple Campus, Doti District of Nepal shall be implemented through Ramechhap Municipality and Badikedar Rural Municipality, respectively.



The Seventh Nepal Chamber Expo 2023 kick-starts today in Kathmandu

The seventh Nepal Chamber Expo 2023 kick-started today in local Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu and will continue till May 22.  The event is organized by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce and showcases stalls of both domestic and international products. Exhibitors from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan had their products at the Expo. This Expo majorly focuses on trade dialogues, the exchange of export-import information, and the marketing of Nepali goods. 
 
Ajrakh saree, fabrics with kalamkari prints, mulberry and tussar sarees from India, along with toys, kitchen equipment, and many more Made in India products were on sale.  The Nepal Chamber of Commerce expects that this expo will encourage the domestic business community to explore potential competitive abilities in collaboration with the foreign trade community.
