India-UK hold 11th round of FTA negotiations to enhance trade, investment opportunities
India and the United Kingdom concluded the eleventh round of talks for the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on July 18, where progressing on the FTA negotiations and enhancing the trade and investment opportunities between the two countries was discussed, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said on Monday.
As with previous rounds, this was conducted in a hybrid fashion - a number of Indian officials travelled to London for negotiations and others attended virtually.
Kanpur Jail to launch radio station for prisoners on August 15
A radio station is set to start operating soon in Kanpur Prison with inmates doubling up as jockeys, according to a senior official.
The radio station will be launched on August 15 on the occasion of Independence Day.
Along with his self-composed poems and songs, the day-long activities in the jail will be broadcast through the news.

India and Argentina have agreed to a bilateral exchange of young researchers and Startups, particularly in the field of Biotechnology and Agriculture. Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh said this in New Delhi after meeting a high-level delegation led by the Governor of Santa Fe province of Argentina, Omar Angel Perotti. Dr Singh said that the two countries also decided to hold comprehensive talks between delegations comprising academia, Research, and Development Institutes, and Industry in the field of Science and Technology and Biotechnology.
Over 123 lakh domestic passengers travelled on UDAN flights since inception
More than 123 lakh domestic passengers have travelled on Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) flights since the inception of the scheme, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation Gen V K Singh (Retd) said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The UDAN scheme has recently completed five years.
The scheme was initiated in October 2016 with the objective of fulfilling the aspirations of the common citizen, with an enhanced aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in tier II and tier III cities.
Centre grants in-principle approval for 21 Greenfield Airports across India
The government of India granted 'in-principle' approval for the establishment of 21 new Greenfield Airports on Monday. These airports will be set up in different regions of the country to enhance connectivity and boost air travel accessibility.
The approved locations for the new airports are as follows:

- Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Hassan, and Shivamogga in Karnataka

TRAI releases draft telecom consumers education and protection fund amendment rules for comments
Telecom regulator TRAI on Monday circulated the draft telecom consumers education and protection fund amendment regulation, for stakeholder comments.
The amendments have been proposed in specific portions of the rules after a need was felt since certain activities like preparation and audit of accounts, require expenses to be incurred from Telecom Consumer Education and Protection Fund (TCEPF) and provisions are required, accordingly.
Union government approves 8.15% interest rate for PF deposits
The Centre on July 24 accepted the recommendation of the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) to increase the interest rate of deposits in Provident Fund (PF) to 8.15%.
The new rate will be applicable for this financial year. The CBT had recommended an increase to 8.15% from 8.10% interest to the deposits on March 28, 2023. The EPFO, through an official order, has instructed its field offices to credit the interest into the accounts of members.

Centre notifies appointment of chief Justices of Bombay and Andhra Pradesh HCs
The Centre Government on Monday notified the appointment of Chief Justices of Bombay and Andhra Pradesh High Courts.
According to the Ministry of Law and Justice's notification, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President of India is pleased to appoint Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.
The Government also cleared the name of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Judge of the Bombay High Court as Andhra Pradesh High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna recommended has recently his name.
