Senior Mathematician, writer Mangala Narlikar (मंगला नारळीकर) passed away due to cancer in Pune today. She was 80 years old. Mrs. Naralikar, who obtained her master’s degree with a gold medal in Mathematics, obtained PhD in the subject of Analytic Number Theory. After her degrees in mathematics, she initially worked at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai and later worked as a lecturer in the University of Bombay and Pune.
Mrs. Naralikar, who taught in many institutes in the country and abroad, was very good at explaining mathematics in simple language. Many books and research papers are credited to her. She was a pillar of strength to her husband, senior Astronomer Padma Vibhushan Dr. Jayant Narlikar (जयंत नारळीकर) throughout his career.
Biden To Appoint Indian-American Shamina Singh To Global Trade Committee

PM Modi to inaugurate ‘shell-shaped’ new terminal building of Port Blair airport

Niti Aayog report claims decrease in multidimensional poverty
India has registered a significant decline of 9.89 percentage points in the number of multidimensionally poor, from 24.85% in 2015-16 to 14.96% in 2019-2021, according to the ‘National Multidimensional Poverty Index: A Progress Review 2023’. The report was released by the Niti Aayog in New Delhi on July 17. It claims that about 13.5 crore people came out of multidimensional poverty during the period, assessed by identifying “acute deprivations in health, education and standard of living” using United Nations-approved parameters.
