India to home South Asia's first-ever Center for Species Survival

With a vision to create a just world that values and conserves nature, IUCN Species Survival Commission has partnered with Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to set up the first-ever Center for Species Survival in South Asia.

In this regard, an MoU has been signed between Prof. Jon Paul Rodríguez, Chair—IUCN SSC and Vivek Menon, Executive Director, Wildlife Trust of India to set up the first-ever regional Center for Species Survival (CSS) in India. This will be the 10th Centre for Species Survival in the world and the first of its kind in South Asia.

This collaborative effort aims to enhance conservation efforts by wildlife experts and specialist groups and safeguard the rich biodiversity of India.



Amazon India announces to open first floating store in Dal lake

As a part of last point delivery programme 'I Have Space', Amazon India has announced to open its first ever floating store in famous Dal Lake in Srinagar. The store should be open in a house boat and will provide deliveries to its customers every day in Srinagar.

Murtaza Khan Kashi, owner of houseboat Selec Town, will deliver packages every day to customers at the doorstep of their houseboats as part of the onboarding.

Amazon Logistics, India, Director Karuna Shankar Pande said this will provide faster and reliable deliveries to customers across Srinagar, opportunities for small businesses and strengthen Amazon's delivery network.



Per Capita Income Seen Growing Nearly 70% To $4,000 By FY30

The country's per capita income is likely to grow by close to 70 per cent to USD 4,000 by fiscal 2030 from USD 2,450 in fiscal 2023, helping it become a middle-income economy with USD 6-trillion GDP, more than half of which will be coming in from household consumption, says a research report.

Per capita income/GDP has risen from USD 460 in fiscal 2001 to USD 1,413 in fiscal 2011 and further to USD 2,150 in fiscal 2021.

The biggest growth driver will be external trade which may nearly double to USD 2.1 trillion by 2030 from USD 1.2 trillion in fiscal 2023 when the GDP printed in at USD 3.5 trillion, Standard Chartered Bank said in a weekend report which assumes a 10 per cent nominal GDP growth annually from now on. 



ISRO launches PSLV-C56 rocket carrying 7 Singaporean satellites from Sriharikota

DS-SAR, a radar imaging earth observation satellite is a primary satellite for the mission. It was developed under a partnership between the Defence Science and Technology Agency (representing the government of Singapore) and ST Engineering

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday successfully launched its PSLV-C56 rocket carrying seven Singaporean satellites from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.



Indian women’s team wins 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation

In Hockey, Indian women’s team won the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation - International Tournament in Terrassa today, with a 3-0 victory over hosts Spain. Vandana Katariya in 22nd minute, Monika in 48th minute and Udita in 58th minute scored goals as the team remained undefeated in the tournament.
 
Earlier, India had defeated Commonwealth Games champions England 3-0 in its third match yesterday. Lalremsiami scored a hat-trick for India. With this win, India took the top spot in the standings, earning five points from three matches. England finished their campaign, with four points from four games. Hosts Spain came second, with four points.



INS Visakhapatnam reaches Muscat to boost India-Oman maritime partnership

India and Oman are linked by geography, history and culture and enjoy warm and cordial relations.

To enhance the maritime partnership between Indian Navy and Royal Oman Navy, the indigenously built destroyer INS Visakhapatnam entered Oman on Sunday, informed Indian Navy officials.

The Indian Navy and Royal Oman Navy are working together to address security challenges in the region and the warship is part of the Western Naval Command Fleet, the officials added.



Popyrin beats Wawrinka to win Umag title

Australia’s Alexei Popyrin fought back from a set down and overcame cramping to shatter Stan Wawrinka’s hopes of a first title in six years by winning the Umag clay-court title on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Popyrin ranked at 90 in the world, came through 6-7 (5/7), 6-3, 6-4 after two hours and 36 minutes on court to claim a second career title to add to his 2021 Singapore victory.

Fritz tuned up for the U.S. Open with his second victory of the season on hard courts, having won the Delray Beach title in February.

Taylor Fritz won his sixth career title Sunday, beating Aleksandar Vukic of Australia 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-4 at the Atlanta Open.

The top seed and highest-ranked American at No. 9 tuned up for the U.S. Open with his second victory of the season on hard courts, having won the Delray Beach title in February.



RBI sets targets for lenders on CBDC, unclaimed deposits

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken a cue from the finance ministry, implementing a system of assigning business targets to banks for promoting initiatives like the central bank digital currency and the recovery of unclaimed deposits.

Bankers said the regulator is constantly monitoring actions of lenders to meet the targets. For instance, RBI has given a target to generate one million daily digital currency transactions by December, despite bankers’ saying benefits of the central bank digital currency is limited, considering the popularity of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform



PM Modi to inaugurate 'Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam' in Delhi tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 'Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam' on Saturday at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan here, his office said. The 'samagam' coincides with the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

During the programme, the prime minister will release the first instalment of funds under the PM SHRI Scheme, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said.
