indian Coast Guard conducts International Coastal Cleanup Day – 2023

The Indian Coast Guard conducted International Coastal Clean-up Day – 2023 (ICC-2023) across all Coastal States and Union Territories on 16 Sep 2023. The International Coastal Clean-up day is held worldwide on the third Saturday of September every year under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP) in the South Asian Region. The Indian Coast Guard has been coordinating this activity in India since 2006.

The campaign was also dedicated to the ongoing efforts of Government for the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s clarion call for mass cleanliness and sanitation campaign, through “Swachhta Hi Seva”.

This year, Maharashtra witnessed the highest participation of 11,425 volunteers followed by Tamil Nadu which had 5,166 volunteers. Nationwide, a total of 25,245 volunteers participated in the ICC-2023 campaign.



Rabindranath Tagore's Santiniketan On UNESCO World Heritage List

Santiniketan, where Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore built Visva-Bharati over a century ago, has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The world body made the announcement in a post on 'X' on Sunday.

India has been striving for a long to get a UNESCO tag for this cultural site located in Bengal's Birbhum district.

The decision to include Santiniketan in the list was taken during the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee currently underway in Saudi Arabia.



Haryana to give ?50,000 for daughters of industrial workers

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Sunday announced that the state government will grant ₹50,000 to daughters of industrial workers pursuing higher education to purchase electric two-wheelers during an event at Palwal, PTI reported.

The move will promote mobility and enable the daughters of industrial workers to be independent, Khattar said while speaking at Shri Vishwakarma Skill University in Palwal.



India win Asia Cup for record-extending 8th time

India chased down a paltry target of 51 against Sri Lanka to win the Asia Cup for the 8th time. The result was a foregone conclusion after Mohammed Siraj had destroyed Sri Lanka's batting line-up with figures of 6 for 21 off 7 overs on Sunday in Colombo after Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat.

Sri Lanka's batters were clueless and as many as five of them were dismissed without scoring.



Srinivasan K Swamy elected chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations

Srinivasan K Swamy, executive Chairman of R K Swamy Hansa Group, has been elected as the Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC)  for the year 2023-2024, the organisation said in a statement.  

Swamy is an industry veteran and currently serves as Chairman of the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations. In the past, he acted as the President or Chairman of the International Advertising  Association (IAA), India Chapter, Confederation of Asian Advertising Agency Associations, Advertising Agencies Association of India, and Advertising Standards  Council of India. Earlier, he led All India Management Association, Madras Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Madras Management Association, the statement said.



Dr Payal Chhabra, 1st Woman Army Surgeon To Become Para Commando

Major Dr Payal Chhabra, a surgeon serving at the Army hospital in Ladakh, has become the first woman surgeon to join the elite Para Special Forces of the Indian Army. She completed her training and received the coveted Maroon Beret at the Paratroopers Training School in Agra, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

Himanta Biswa Sarma Awarded With Singapore's Top Fellowship

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been awarded the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship for his distinguished contribution to public service, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) informed through an official statement on Sunday.

After receiving the honour, Chief Minister Sarma expressed his "profound gratitude" at receiving the award and termed it as a recognition of Assam's growing global stature, the statement read.



11-point development programme in Maharashtra to mark PM Modi’s birthday

A day after announcing projects worth Rs 45,000 crore for the Marathwada region in the special cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday, marking the 73rd birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, declared “NaMo 11 point programme” to be implemented across the state.

The 11-point programme includes NaMo women empowerment mission that aims to extend benefits of government schemes to 73 lakh women; NaMo construction worker welfare mission that will provide safety kits to 73,000 workers; NaMo farm pond mission to create 73,000 farm ponds; NaMo self-sufficient and solar energy village campaign to make 73 villages self-reliant; NaMo poor and backward class dignity mission for overall development of poor and backward classes; NaMo village secretariat mission to construct 73 gram panchayat offices in every district; NaMo smart tribal school mission for smart schools and 73 science centres; NaMo Divyang Shakti Abhiyan to construct rehabilitation centres for the physically challenged; NaMo sports ground and garden mission to construct well-equipped playgrounds and gardens; NaMo city beautification project in 73 cities and NaMo pilgrim and fort protection mission that will renovate 73 historic shrines.
