Australia likely to have world’s tallest wooden tower
Western Australia is set to be home to the world's largest tallest wooden building, as authorities in Perth green-lit plans for a 191.2 meter tall (627 foot) "hybrid" tower constructed using mass timber, reported CNN.
Perth's Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP) on Thursday approved Grange Development's proposal for the skyscraper which has currently dubbed the C6 building, and would stand nearly twice as high as the current record holder.
According to the developers, 42 per cent of the proposed tower will be constructed from timber, with the columns and core built with reinforced concrete, CNN reported.

Rajnath Singh releases fifth positive indigenisation list in New Delhi
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh launched the Navy's updated indigenous programme Swavalamban 2.0 in New Delhi yesterday. Speaking at the Indian Navy's Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) seminar 'Swavlamban', Mr Singh said that self-reliance is the utmost priority since the Modi government came to power. During the event, Raksha Mantri also released the fifth Positive Indigenisation list of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) comprising 98 items. Highly complex systems, sensors, weapons and ammunition have been included in the list. All these items will be procured from indigenous sources as per provisions given in Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 in staggered timeline.
Asian Games 2023: Dipika Pallikal, Harinder Pal Sandhu clinch gold in Squash Mixed Doubles
Dipika Pallikal, Harinder Pal Sandhu on 5 October won Gold medal in Mixed Doubles Squash event defeating Malaysian pair by 2-0 in the final. Dipika and Harinder eked out a 11-10 11-10 win over Malaysian duo of Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal in a tense 35 minute final to fetch India's second gold medal in squash at the ongoing event.
Taking to X, SAI Media in a post wrote, “Indian Squash Reigns Supreme! Our dynamic mixed doubles team of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder clinches GOLD, defeating Malaysia by a score of 2-0 in the final at #AsianGames2022!"
Indian archers claim compound men’s and women’s team gold
India’s compound archers carried their mixed team form into the men’s and women’s team events, winning twin gold medals to mark another successful day at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre in the Asian Games here on Thursday.
The women's team – they are the world champions – stamped their class in a testing final to edge out Chinese Taipei 230-229. The men’s trio of Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma and Prathamesh Jawkar had it relatively easy against South Korea, winning 235-230 in the final.
Indian Navy & SBI join hands to launch Nav-eCash’ card
Indian Navy and the State Bank of India on October 4 launched ‘Nav-eCash’ card, a unique e-cash card that can work in both online and offline mode.
On the launch of Nav-eCash card, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said, “India is leading the world with over 100 billion digital financial transactions being recorded annually and the number is steadily growing.”
This is a giant step as India eyes complete Self-reliance and digital transformation. The SBI Nav-eCash card will be implemented pan Navy.
RBI appoints Muneesh Kapur as executive director
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Wednesday said it has appointed Muneesh Kapur as Executive Director (ED) with effect from October 3, 2023. As executive director, he will look after the Department of Economic and Policy Research.
Before being promoted to the post of ED, Kapur was Adviser-in-Charge of Monetary Policy Department and secretary to the Monetary Policy Committee, the Reserve Bank said in a statement.
NIIF and JBIC launch 600 million India-Japan Fund to facilitate collaboration and investment in field of climate and environment
The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund and Japan Bank for International Cooperation, JBIC have tied up to launch a 600 million US dollar India-Japan Fund. This joint initiative will facilitate collaboration and investment between India and Japan in the field of climate and environment.
According to the Finance Ministry, the Government of India will contribute 49 per cent of the corpus and the remaining 51 per cent will be contributed by JBIC. This fund mechanism will promote Japanese investments in India by focussing on investing in environmental sustainability and low carbon emission strategies. The Finance Ministry has termed this collaboration a key milestone in the strategic and economic partnership between India and Japan.
SBI launches ‘Mobile Handheld Device’ for its financial inclusion customers
State Bank of India has unveiled a ‘mobile handheld device’ for its financial inclusion customers for enhancing accessibility and convenience in availing banking services such as cash withdrawal, cash deposit, fund transfer, balance inquiry and mini statement.
The country’s largest lender, in a statement, said the device will bring kiosk banking directly to customer’s doorstep.
SBI underscored that the device offers greater flexibility to customer service point (CSP) agents, enabling them to reach out to customers wherever they are.
Bihar govt announces 10% reservation for EWS in judicial services
Bihar government on Tuesday announced 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the judicial services and state-run law colleges and universities.
The announcement came just a day after the government released the first set of data from state’s caste survey.
The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, news agency PTI reported.
