1 India's 13-year old Grandmaster D Gukesh wins 34th Cannes Open

In Chess, India's 13-year old Grandmaster D Gukesh emerged champion in the 34th Cannes Open in France. Gukesh defeated Harutyun Bargseghyan of the host nation in the final round to end with 7.5 points. Gukesh, who last year became the world's second youngest Grandmaster ever, beat the Frenchman in 50 moves to emerge clear winner on Saturday.

The Tamil Nadu player had last week won his first open tournament, bagging top honors in the Hillerod 110th Anniversary Open event in Denmark.
He remained unbeaten in the tournament and posted wins over top-seeded Chongsheng Zeng of China and Bargseghyan among others.

2 PM Modi, US Prez Trump to jointly address Namaste Trump event at Motera stadium

US President Donald Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad today on a two-day visit to India. He will be accompanied by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and top brass of his administration. In Ahmedabad, he will visit Sabarmati Ashram and take part in a roadshow with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders will jointly address over one lakh people at the Namaste Trump event at Motera cricket stadium.

A cultural extravaganza will be organised at the stadium during the Namaste Trump event. AIR correspondent reports that the US president along with PM Modi will participate in roadshows on his way from the airport to Sabarmati Ashram and from there to the newly-built Motera stadium. Huge billboards of the two leaders and replicas of historic places in Gujarat have placed along the roads where people will greet the two leaders.

Dance groups and singers from different parts of the country will perform on stages that are dotting the 22-km route of the the roadshow. Bollywood singers Kailash Kher and Parthiv Gohil, and Gujarati folk singers like Kirtidan Gadhvi, Gita Rabari, Purushottam Upadhyay and Sairam Dave will perform at the Motera cricket stadium.

3 US Prez Donald Trump to arrive in Ahmedabad today on two-day visit to India

US President Donald Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad today on a two-day visit to India. He will be accompanied by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and top brass of his administration. In Ahmedabad, he will visit Sabarmati Ashram and take part in a roadshow with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two leaders will jointly address over one lakh people at the 'Namaste Trump' event at the Motera cricket stadium. A cultural extravaganza will be organised at the stadium during the Namaste Trump event. After the event in Ahmedabad, Mr Trump and his entourage will fly to Agra to visit Taj Mahal.

In Uttar Pradesh, Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will welcome the US president on his arrival at the Kheria Airport. Mr Trump and his family will spend about an hour at the Taj Mahal complex. In the evening, the US President will leave for Delhi for the main leg of the visit during which restricted and delegation-level talks between Mr Trump and Mr Modi will be held at Hyderabad House tomorrow.

4 Department of Telecommunications launches '5G Hackathon'

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched ‘5G Hackathon’ in association with government, academia and industry stakeholders. Aimed at shortlisting India's focused cutting edge ideas that can be converted into workable 5G products and solutions, the Hackathon that began yesterday will be spread across three phases. The event will culminate in a grand felicitation ceremony at India Mobile Congress on the 16th of October this year. Winners of the various phases will share a total prize pool of 2.5 crore rupees.

The 5G technology provides quantum leap over 4G in terms of speed, peak data rate, latency, spectrum efficiency and connection density. The Hackathon will convert innovating ideas into products and solutions in different verticals and develop India specific use cases around 5G. The 5G Hackathon is open to developers, students, start-ups, SMEs, academic institutions and registered companies in India and  NRIs. Stakeholders can participate as individuals or as a team to present use cases for the 5G network in the Indian context.

5 Geological Survey of India discovers gold deposits of over 3,000 tonnes in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has discovered gold deposits to the tune of around 3,000 tonnes in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, almost five times India's current reserve of the yellow metal.  District Mining Officer K.K. Rai said the gold deposits were found in Son Pahadi and Hardi areas.

Work on finding gold reserves in Sonbhadra was started almost two decades back in 1992-93 by the GSI, he said, adding that auctioning of these blocks through e-tendering would start soon.

The deposits in Son Pahadi is estimated to be around 2,943.26 tonnes, while that at Hardi block is around 646.16 kilograms, the official said.

6 Ahmadabad decked up to welcome US President Donald Trump on Monday

The city of Ahmedabad is all decked up to welcome US President Donald Trump who will begin his maiden two-day visit to India from Gujarat on Monday.

President Trump's visit is also going to be the first stand-alone visit by a US President to India.

Preparations are underway for the India Roadshow to be held in the city. President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be greeted by performers from across the nation on the route of the India Roadshow. More than 28 stages have been set up where artists dressed in traditional attire will present folk dances, music and yoga pose.

7 Pragyan Ojha retires from international cricket

The most memorable moment of his career was receiving his Test cap from Tendulkar.
Veteran Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha, who snared 10 wickets during Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test in 2013, announced retirement from international and first-class cricket with immediate effect on Friday.

Tendulkar’s final Test in Mumbai against the West Indies in November 2013 also became the last of the 33-year-old Ojha’s career. He went out of favour after that but did not give any reasons for his decision to call it quits now.

In all, he played 24 Tests between 2009 and 2013 in which he took 113 wickets.

8 Around 300 rural clusters developed under Shyama Prasad Mukherji National Rurban Mission

Shyama Prasad Mukherji National Rurban Mission is completing four years today. It was Launched by Prime mInister Narendra Modi from Kurubhat in Rajnandgaon District of Chhattisgarh on 21st February 2016. It aims at developing clusters in all States and Union Territories which would trigger overall development in the region.

The objective is to give a boost to economic activities, skill development and infrastructure amenities in the regions.
At the launch ceremony, the Prime Minister had asserted that the mission is intended to make Indian villages as smart villages. Around 300 rural clusters developed under Shyama Prasad Mukherji National Rurban Mission.

These clusters are being developed by provisioning of economic activities, developing skills and local entrepreneurship and providing infrastructure amenities. Spurred by the success of Rurban clusters, NITI Aayog has proposed a new and extended programme for over 1,000 clusters in next three years.

10 Fourth Anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission being observed today

The fourth Anniversary of the launch of Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) will be observed today. On 21st February 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Mission with the vision to deliver catalytic interventions to rural areas on the threshold of growth.

The Mission aims at transforming these Rurban clusters by stimulating local economic development, enhancing basic services and creating well planned Rurban clusters. This will lead to holistic development of the region and encourage integrated and inclusive rural development.

Under the mission, 300 Rurban clusters are envisaged to be developed in a time-bound manner. Spurred by the success of Rurban clusters, NITI Aayog has recently proposed a new and extended programme for over 1,000 clusters in next three years.
