1 Govt to launch scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar will launch the Scheme for Economic Empowerment of DNTs in New Delhi today for the welfare of De-notified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes. The DNTs are the most neglected, marginalized and economically and socially deprived communities. Historically, these communities never had access to private land or home ownership and used forests and grazing lands for their livelihood and residential use.

Free Coaching for DNT students has been envisioned under the Scheme. The objective is to provide good coaching quality for DNT candidates to enable them to appear in competitive examinations or admissions to professional courses. Approximately, 2,000 clusters will benefit under this component in five years. The total funds spent in the five years will be 49 crore rupees.

2 Veteran Singer-Composer Bappi Lahiri passes away in Mumbai

Legendary Bollywood Music Composer and singer Bappi Lahiri passed away in Mumbai. He was 69. Doctor treating him at a private hospital in Mumbai said the singer died last night due to multiple health issues. Bappi Lahiri was instrumental in popularizing Disco music in India and has many hit songs to his credit. Some of his memorable songs include ‘Chalte chalte mere yeh geet rakhna’, ‘I am a Disco Dancer’, ‘Pag Ghunghroo baandh Mira nachi thhi’ from ‘Sharabi’ and ‘Yaar bina Chain kaha re’ among others.    

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness at the demise of singer and composer Bappi Lahiri. In a tweet, Mr Modi said Bappi Lahiri's music was all encompassing, and beautifully expressed diverse emotions. He said people across generations could relate to his works and Bappi Lahiri's lively nature will be missed by everyone.

FICCI has announced the appointment of Jyoti Deshpande, CEO, Viacom 18 Media Pvt. Ltd. as the co-chair of FICCI Media & Entertainment Board.

Deshpande is an industry veteran with over 29 years of experience across the country’s foremost media and entertainment companies. She pioneered Eros’ early entry into the OTT space (through Eros Now) and established Jio Studios as a key player in the entertainment value chain. She is currently serving as the CEO of Viacom18, making her the first woman to lead a Big-4 Media and Entertainment company.

5 Tata Group appoints former Turkish Airlines chairman Ilker Ayci as new Air India MD and CEO

The Tata Group has appointed Ilker Ayci — former Turkish Airlines Chairman — as Air India’s Managing Director and CEO effective on or before April 1. The development is in line with the Tata Group’s plans to appoint an expatriate chief to run the airline it took over from the Indian government last month.

Ilker Ayci was chairman of Turkish Airlines since 2015, and his resignation from the post was announced by the airline on January 27 this year — the same day Tatas were handed over Air India by the Centre.

6 International Childhood Cancer Day 2022: Ways to take care of a child’s mental health during treatment

Every year, on February 15, International Childhood Cancer Day is observed to raise awareness about childhood cancer and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families. While there’s growing awareness about cancer in children, its effect on their mental health is still a matter of acute concern.

According to Dr Gauri Kapoor, Medical Director Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC), Nitibagh and Director, Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at RGCIRC Rohini, “Childhood cancer is curable. However, the treatment is quite intensive. For a few months, the child needs to come to the hospital frequently, and many times, they also require admission, chemotherapy treatments and injections. So, a child’s life is turned upside down during the treatment.”

7 Vineet Joshi takes charge as new CBSE chairperson

Vineet Joshi, additional secretary in the ministry of education, has been assigned the charge of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairperson, the ministry announced on Monday.

Joshi’s appointment comes after his predecessor Manoj Ahuja was appointed as the OSD in the department of agriculture and farmers welfare. “Consequent upon reliving of Manoj Ahuja from the post of CBSE chairman, the charge has been assigned to Vineet Joshi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, in addition to his existing assignments,” the ministry said in an official order.

8 Government bans 54 Chinese apps posing threat to national security

Government has banned 54 Chinese apps posing threat to national security. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued the list of banned apps. These include Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera - Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock and Dual Space Lite to name a few.

The list of 54 apps includes some of those that been had been banned by the government earlier but were rebranded and relaunched under new names. Upon official confirmation and after establishing the country of origin, orders have once again been issued to ban the apps.

9 Rahul Bajaj, former chairman of Bajaj Auto, passes away at 83

Veteran industrialist and head of the Bajaj group, Rahul Bajaj, passed away on Saturday.

Bajaj, 83, who had pneumonia and also a heart problem, was admitted to the Ruby Hall Clinic a month ago and breathed his last at 2.30 pm on Saturday.

“It is with deep sorrow that I inform you about the passing away of Rahul Bajaj, husband of the late Rupa Bajaj and father of Rajiv and Deepa, Sanjiv and Shefali and Sunaina and Manish. He passed away on the afternoon of February 12, 2022 in the presence of his closest family members,” said a statement from Bajaj group.
