1 MoS Health Dr Bharti Pravin addresses 67th Foundation Day celebrations of AIIMS in New Delhi

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar has said that India's health care system has shown great efficiency not only in providing diagnostic and management facilities but also in minimizing mortality and maximizing recovery.

She said this while addressing the 67th Foundation Day celebrations of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi on Sunday Dr. Pawar said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government is working holistically with an emphasis on preventive care while giving priority to tertiary healthcare.

She added that the efforts are also to reduce the cost of treating the poor and increase the number of doctors rapidly.

2 NTA to declare CUET-PG results

The National Testing Agency will declare the Common University Entrance Test Postgraduate (CUET-PG) result today. In a tweet, UGC Chairman, Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar said, the result will be announced by 4 PM.

The CUET (PG) has been conducted for admission in PG programmes in the Central Universities. As many as 66 universities have adopted this entrance test for admissions in the academic session 2022-23.  

Meanwhile, the UGC has instructed universities to create student-friendly portal for admission through CUET PG score.

3 MoHUAM to launch Swachh Toycathon, a unique competition to make toys from waste

Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry will launch Swachh Toycathon today, a unique competition to make toys from waste. The competition will be open to individuals and groups to bring forth innovation in toy designs using dry waste. It will focus on efficient designs that can be replicated at a larger scale, and toys that comply with minimum safety standards. The competition will be hosted on MyGov’s innovate India portal. Center for Creative Learning, IIT Gandhinagar is the knowledge partner for the initiative.

The demand for toys in the country is increasing due to strong economic growth, rising disposable incomes, and several innovations for the junior population. National Action Plan for Toys 2020 was introduced to promote the Indian toy industry including traditional handicrafts and handmade toys with the objective of establishing India as a global Toy hub. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade along with 14 Ministries of Central Government is currently implementing various aspects of the National Action Plan for Toys.

4 In a first in India, Avalanche monitoring radar installed in North Sikkim

An avalanche monitoring radar, the first of its kind in India, has been installed in North Sikkim by the Army and Defence Geoinformatics and Research Establishment (DGRE). It has the capability to detect avalanches within three seconds of its trigger and will assist in saving lives of troops and reducing damage to property in super high altitude areas.

5 New Delhi: Dr. M Srinivas appointed as director of AIIMS

Dr M Srinivas has been appointed as the director of All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr Srinivas who is Dean of ESIC  Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad, will succeed Randeep Guleria who has been holding the post since March 2017.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas to the post of AIIMS director. His appointment is for a period of five years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or till attaining the age of 65 years.

6 Defence Ministry signs contract worth 1700 crore rupees to acquire additional Brahmos missiles for frontline warships

Providing further impetus to Aatmanirbharta in defence production, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for the acquisition of additional dual-role capable Surface to Surface BrahMos missiles at an overall approximate cost of 1700 Crore rupees under Buy-Indian Category. 

Induction of these dual-role capable Missiles is going to significantly enhance the operational capability of Indian Navy fleet assets.

It is notable that BAPL is a Joint Venture between India and Russia making a crucial contribution to augmenting the new generation of Surface-to-Surface Missiles with enhanced range and dual role capability for land as well as anti-ship attacks.

The release function of the book will be graced by Governor of Kerala Arif Mohammed Khan, former Vice-President of India M. The function will be organised by the Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Veteran Assamese swimmer Elvis Ali Hazarika - has become the first from the North East to cross the North Channel.

The North Channel is the strait between north-eastern Northern Ireland and south-western Scotland. Elvis and his team clocked a timing of 14 hours 38 minutes to achieve this feat. With this, Elvis has become the oldest Indian swimmer to cross the North Channel.

9 Defence Ministry signs MoU with Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank under SPARSH- System for Pension Administration initiative

The Defence Ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding, MoU, with Bank of Baroda and HDFC Bank under the SPARSH- System for Pension Administration initiative with an objective to cover seventeen lakh, defence pensioners, across the country.
 
Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said that seventeen lakh pensioners out of the total thirty-two lakh defence pensioners will be added with SPARSH by the end of this month. He said the remaining pensioners will be brought at the earliest.  The Defence Secretary highlighted that the average time in pension settlement has come down significantly to about 16 days.

10 India wins UN award for India Hypertension Control Initiative

In a significant achievement and recognition of country’s efforts against hypertension, India has won a UN award for its “India Hypertension Control Initiative, IHCI which is a large-scale hypertension intervention under National Health Mission.

The IHCI has been recognized for its exceptional work within India’s existing primary healthcare system. The IHCI has won the ‘2022 UN Interagency Task Force and WHO Special Programme on Primary Health Care Award’ at the UN General Assembly side event held in New York, USA Today. The award recognizes the outstanding commitment and action of India to prevent and control Non-Communicable Diseases and deliver integrated people-centric primary care.
