Maha Shivratri is being celebrated across the country today. Devotees worship Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil, on this occasion. In Uttar Pradesh, a large number of people are reaching Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi to offer prayers. Devotees are also taking holy dip in Ganges. In Prayagraj, devotees are taking holy dip at Sangam.

In the national capital, temples have been decorated and people started offering prayers early this morning. Long queues of devotees are being witnessed at most of the Lord Shiva temples in Delhi. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has conveyed best wishes to people on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. In a tweet, Mr Modi hoped that Lord Mahadev will bless everyone.

2 Cabinet approves implementation of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission with a budget of ?1,600 crore for five years

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the national roll-out of Central sector scheme, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with a budget of ₹1,600 crore for five years.

The National Health Authority (NHA) will be the implementing agency of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that on February 18, 2016, farmers had seen a new dawn in the field of agriculture. On this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana from Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh to provide relief to farmers across the country.

5 National Science Day being celebrated to commemorate discovery of Raman Effect

Today is the National Science Day. The day is celebrated every year on 28th February to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’. On this day, Indian Physicist Sir C.V. Raman announced the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.

In 1986, Government of India designated 28 February as National Science Day. The day is aimed at spreading the message of importance of science and its application in human life.

This year the theme of the National Science Day is- Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future. On the occasion, theme-based science communication activities are carried out all over the country.

7 Education Ministry launches Bhasha Certificate Selfie campaign

Ministry of Education has launched a Bhasha Certificate Selfie Campaign to encourage cultural diversity and promote multilingualism and to foster the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. Bhasha Certificate Selfie initiative aims to promote Bhasha Sangam mobile app, developed by Ministry of Education and MyGov India. Using the app, people can learn 100 sentences of daily use in 22 scheduled Indian languages.

Ministry of Education in a statement said that the initiative, under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat will aim to ensure that people acquire basic conversational skills in Indian languages. To achieve this, a target of 75 lakh people acquiring basic conversational skills has been set.

8 President Kovind inaugurates year-long celebration marking 400th birth anniversary of great Ahom General Lachit Borphukan

President Ram Nath Kovind said that Lachit Borphukan will remain inspirational for the generations to come. The President emphasised to take efforts to make him households name in the country. Mr. Kovind said this while inaugurating the year-long celebration to mark the 400th birth anniversary of the great Ahom general Lachit Borphukan in Guwahati.

The President launched the birth anniversary celebration of Borphukan by laying the foundation for the re-development of the general’s memorial in Jorhat district. Mr. Kovind also laid the foundation for a memorial of the Alaboi Battle at Dodora in Kamrup district. Remembering the heroic of great Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, the President said that Assam foiled all attacks in medieval period. Mr. Kovind further said that the leaders like Lachit Borphukan and Shivaji will be remembered always. He.said that the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the occasion on 75th years of independence is an occasion to know the heroes of the countries by the young generation.

9 Air India to operate two flights to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine

Air India will operate two flights to Romanian capital Bucharest and Hungarian Capital Budapest from Delhi and Mumbai today to evacuate stranded Indians who have reached the Ukraine border by road. With the Ukraine airspace closed for civilian flights, Indian nationals will be boarding the Special Government Chartered Flights to return home.
