2 Indian Railways converts 500 Mail Express trains to Superfast category

Indian Railways has converted 500 Mail Express trains to the Superfast category. In addition to this, 130 services (65 pairs) have also been speeded up by converting to the Superfast category. The speeding up of trains is between 10 minutes to 70 minutes.  

The Ministry of Railways informed about this development by releasing its new All India Railway Time Table known as “TRAINS AT A GLANCE" on its official website. The new timetable came into force on Saturday. 

The Ministry said, the punctuality of Mail Express trains during the year 2022-23 is about 84 percent which is about 9 percent more than the punctuality achieved during 2019-20.

3 Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo wins 2022 Nobel prize

Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine on Monday for discoveries that provide our understanding of how modern-day humans evolved from extinct ancestors. The award’s panel said, his study also provides key insights into the immune system and human uniqueness compared with their extinct cousins. Paabo's key achievements include sequencing an entire Neanderthal genome to reveal the link between extinct people and modern humans.

Sixty-seven-year-old Paabo performed his prizewinning studies in Germany at the University of Munich and at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. Paabo is the son of Sune Bergstrom, who won the Nobel prize in medicine in 1982.

4 Govt plans to set up 100 labs for 5G technology across India, says Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the government plans to set up 100 labs for 5G technology across India and at least 12 of them will be used to train students and conduct experiments.

The minister also asked companies participating in the Indian Mobile Congress to provide their input for the new telecom bill through which the government aims to simplify licensing regime. 

Mr. Vaishnaw said the government is working significantly towards simplifying the licensing regime for all telecom players. Telecom Minister said he is really happy to see the energy of startups and MSMEs, who are going to rural areas to benefit people.

5 Kiren Rijiju, Anurag Singh Thakur launch Fit India Freedom Run 3.0 on Gandhi Jayanti at Major Dhyanchand National Stadium, New Delhi

The launch of Fit India Freedom Run 3.0 took place at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi this morning on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

The third edition was jointly launched with a Fit India Plog Run by Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur. It will go on till 31st of October.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rijiju mentioned said that when Prime Minister  Narendra Modi launched the Fit India movement in 2019, his vision was to make the entire nation fit. Mr. Rijiju said this movement has become a massive success over the years. He said everyone is now interested in joining the movement and the Fit India mobile app is also being downloaded with much enthusiasm every single day.

6 Prez Murmu confers awards for Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2022 & Jal Jeevan Mission Functionality at a function in New Delhi

President  Droupadi Murmu today conferred the awards for Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2022 and Jal Jeevan Mission Functionality Assessment at a function in New Delhi. In the big states category the first award for Swachh Survekshan Grameen was given to Telangana, second to Haryana and the third award was bagged by Tamil Nadu. In small states and UTs category, Andaman and Nicobar won the first award, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu second and Sikkim got the third award.

The Swachh Survekshan Gramin-2022 aimed to undertake ranking of States and Districts on the basis of their performance attained on key quantitative and qualitative Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen parameters. It also envisages to engage rural community in improvement of their sanitation status through an intensive and holistic IEC campaign.

7 Nation pays homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary

President Droupadi Murmu led the nation in paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Gandhi Jayanti. Country today celebrates the 153rd birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, fondly known as the Father of the Nation.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Several Union Ministers,  Congress Leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress president Sonia Gandhi also paid floral tributes to Gandhiji.

8 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to induct first indigenously developed light combat helicopters into Indian Air Force in Rajasthan today

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will induct the first indigenously developed light combat helicopters (LCH) into Indian Air Force at Jodhpur in Rajasthan today, October 3. 

In a tweet, Defence Minister said the induction of the helicopters will be a big boost to the IAF’s combat prowess.
 
The light combat helicopter is a dedicated combat helicopter designed and developed indigenously in India. It has been manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

According to HAL, the light combat helicopter is the only attack helicopter in the world that can land and take-off at an altitude of 5,000 metres or 16,400 ft with a considerable load of weapons and fuel, meeting the specific requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.

9 Election Commission to launch Matadata Junction, a year-long voter awareness program on AIR today

Election Commission will launch Matadata Junction, a year-long voter awareness program on All India Radio today, October 3. 52 episode program of 15-minute duration each will be broadcast every Friday on Vividh Bharati stations, FM Rainbow, FM Gold, and Primary channels of AIR. 

The Matadata Junction program will be broadcast in 23 languages across the country. The launch event of the program will be held at Akashvani Rang Bhavan, New Delhi.  

Chief Election Commissioner of India Rajiv Kumar will launch the Program in the presence of Election Commissioner of India Anoop Chandra Pandey, CEO Prasar Bharati Mayank Kumar Agrawal.  DG AIR News Vasudha Gupta and Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is the ECI State icon, will be present on the occasion.

10 PM Modi greets people on Maha Ashtami, Navratri; replies to citizen's comments on various issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami of Navratri. In a tweet, Mr. Modi said,  May Maa  Mahagauri bring prosperity and success in everyone's life. He also shared a recital of stuti of Maa Mahagauri on his Twitter handle.   

PM Modi has also replied to citizens’ comments on issues ranging from Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya to the 5G launch, Ahmedabad Metro, and Ambaji renovation. 

In his reply to a tweet on Ambaji, Mr. Modi said,  great work has been done in Ambaji in Gujarat in the last few years and this includes the temples of the 51 Shakti Peeths, the work at Gabbar Teerth, and a focus on cleanliness. Mr. Modi has urged more tourists and devotees to visit Ambaji.
