1 India to assume the Presidency of G20 for one year

India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from 1st December this year to 30 November next year.  India is expected to host over two hundred G20 meetings across the country. 

The G20 Leaders' Summit at the level of Heads of State and Government is scheduled to be held on 9 and 10th September next year in New Delhi.

The G20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises 19 countries Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, USA, and the European Union. Collectively, the G20 accounts for 85 per cent of global GDP, 75 per cent of international trade, and two-thirds of the world population, making it the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

2 Joint Entrance Examination Advanced -2022 result declared

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced -2022 result has been declared. R K Shishir is the top ranker in the common rank list while Tanishka Kabra is the female topper.

A total of 40712 candidates have qualified JEE (Advanced) this year. Of the total qualified, 6516 candidates are females.  

The JEE Advanced is for admission to undergraduate courses at the Indian Institutes of Technology and other participating institutions of technical education.

3 MDL launches 3rd Stealth Frigate of Project 17A ‘Taragiri’

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) launched the third Stealth Frigate of Project 17A ‘Taragiri’ on Sunday. The vessel has an approximate launch weight of 3510 Tons.

The ship is designed by the Indian Navy’s in-house design organisation viz. Bureau of Naval Design.

The 149.02 M long & 17.8 M wide ship, is propelled by a CODOG combination of two Gas Turbines and 02 Main Diesel Engines which are designed to achieve a speed of over 28 knots at a displacement of approx. 6670 Tons.

This ship has been built using Integrated construction methodology which involves hull blocks construction in different geographical locations and integration/erection on Slipway at MDL.

4 Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati passes away at 99; PM Modi condoles

Dwarka-Sharda Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati passed away on Sunday at Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh. He was 99 years old. He breathed his last at the Shridham Jhoteshwar Ashram in Narsinghpur. The funeral will take place on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was deeply saddened by the demise of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati. “My condolences to his followers in this time of grief. Om Shanti!” he wrote.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in his tweet said, the incomparable contribution of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati ji to the Indian knowledge tradition will be remembered by the whole world for eternity. I bow to the feet of revered Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati ji with infinite reverence, he added.

5 PM Modi to inaugurate World Dairy Summit at India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida this morning

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit IDF WDS 2022, at India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida today.

The four-day long summit being held from today till 15th September. It is a congregation of global and Indian dairy stakeholders including industry leaders, experts, farmers and policy planners centering around the theme of ‘Dairy for Nutrition and Livelihood’.

AIR Correspondent reports, Around 1500 participants from 50 countries are expected to participate in International Dairy Federation World Dairy Summit 2022. The last such Summit was held in India about half a century ago in 1974. The Indian dairy industry is unique in the sense that it is based on a cooperative model that empowers small and marginal dairy farmers, especially women.

6 Indian Railways overall revenue grows by 38% till August compared to corresponding period last year

Indian Railways' overall revenue has grown by 38 percent till August 2022 over the corresponding period of last year. The overall revenue of Indian Railways at the end of August this year was around 95 thousand 486 crore rupees showing an increase of 26 thousand 271 crore rupees over the same period last year.

Railway Ministry said that the revenue from passenger traffic was nearly 25 thousand 276 crore rupees showing an increase of 116 percent over the corresponding period of last year.

Passenger traffic also increased compared to last year in both the segments, reserved as well as unreserved. The growth from the long-distance reserved mail express trains has been sharper than the same in passenger and suburban trains.

7 NITI Aayog approves 32 beneficiaries under PLI scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing

The Empowered Committee headed by CEO, NITI Aayog Parameswaran Iyer on Friday approved first ever disbursement of incentive for mobile manufacturing under the large-scale electronics manufacturing’ sector.

The Production-Linked Incentive scheme for Large-Scale Electronics Manufacturing is expected to make India a competitive destination for electronics manufacturing. It will also give a boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat while creating more global champions.

Padget Electronics Private Limited, a domestic company, is the first beneficiary approved by the Empowered Committee to receive incentive under mobile manufacturing based on its incremental investment and sales figures.

8 PM Modi to inaugurate Centre-State Science Conclave at Science City, Ahmedabad

9 President Murmu launches Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

President Droupadi Murmu has said that Jan Bhagidari is the key to eliminate tuberculosis from the country. The President was speaking after virtually launching the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to reinvigorate the mission of TB elimination from the country by 2025.

During the event, President Murmu also launched the Ni-kshay 2.0 initiative, a  portal to provide a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.

She said that under the world's biggest Aushman Yojana, the wellness centres have been especially geared to work towards the elimination of Tuberculosis.

10 Vande Bharat 2: Railways to introduce new avatar of high-speed train

Indian Railways will be introducing the new avatar of high-speed train Vande Bharat namely Vande Bharat 2. It will be equipped with more advancements and improved features like 0 to 100 Kmpl speed in just 52 seconds, maximum speed up to 180 Kmph, lesser weight of 392 tons instead of 430 tons, and WI-FI content on demand.
 
New Vande Bharat will also have 32-inch LCD TVs which were 24 inch in earlier versions. 15 percent more energy efficient ACs with dust-free clean air cooling of the traction motor will make the travel more comfortable. Side recliner seat facility which is being provided to Executive Class passengers will now be made available for all classes.
