2 Japan beat Spain to reach last 16; Germany crash out of FIFA World Cup despite 4-2 win over Costa Rica

In the FIFA World Cup, Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 at Al-Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar in Group 'E' match, but fail to qualify for the round 16 stage as they lag behind Spain on goal difference.

In the other Group 'E' match, Japan beat Spain 2-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium and qualify for the round 16 stage. After both matches, Japan finished with six points, securing two wins from three matches. Spain and Germany were tied at four points but the former advanced on the basis of a better goal difference. Japan topped the standings and will face Croatia next while Spain, who finished level with Germany on four points, advanced on a goal difference and will play Morocco.

4 NADA to develop Apps to assist athletes verify medicines with prohibited substances

The National Anti-Doping Agency of India (NADA) is developing Apps to assist athletes to verify medicines with prohibited substances. 

Attending the Inclusion Conclave in New Delhi, NADA Director-General and CEO Ritu Sain said that anti-doping program is inclusive and athletes with disabilities remain at the core. 

Speaking on the occasion, Youth Affairs and Sports Secretary Sujata Chaturvedi said that anti-doping cannot be ignored while the country is striving for excellence in sports. NADA India is also in process of sensitising 20 Dope Control Officers to specialise in collecting samples of Athletes with Disabilities in keeping with the different needs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared the breathtaking satellite images of Gujarat sent by the newly launched Oceansat-3 from space. 

Sharing the crystal-clear coloured images, Mr. Modi said these advances in the world of space technology will help the country to better predict cyclones and promote our coastal economy. 

Oceansat-3, codenamed EOS-06, sent the images of Gujarat’s Kutch, the Arabian Sea, and the Himalayan range on November 29, just three days after it was launched last Saturday.

In Nagaland, the 10-day-long Hornbill Festival 2022 will begin today, December 1, at Naga heritage village Kisama

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will grace the inaugural function as the Chief Guest.

The Festival is held at the heritage village of Kisama, about 12 km from Kohima. Deputy Director of the Tourism Department Kakiye Ayemi said, in the ten-day festival, a visitor gets the opportunity to catch a ring-side view of all the Naga tribes, their culture, and distinctiveness in one place.

President Droupadi Murmu today gave away the National Sports and Adventure Awards 2022 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. She presented the Dronacharya award to wrestling coach Raj Singh and boxing coach Mohammad Ali Qamar at the ceremony. Para shooting coach Suma Siddharth Shirur and wrestling coach Sujeet Maan also received the Dronacharya award.

10 Indian Coast Guard commissions Advanced Light Helicopter Mk-III squadron; Reflects self-reliance in field of helicopter manufacturing

In a major boost to further strengthening the Coast Guard Region East, 840 Sqn (CG), an Indian Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk-III squadron, was commissioned by DG Shri VS Pathania at ICG Air Station, Chennai on November 30, 2022. 

The commissioning of 840 Sqn (CG) is indicative of the leap towards self-reliance in the field of helicopter manufacturing, in line with the government's vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. It will provide a major fillip to the abilities of the Indian Coast Guard in the security sensitive waters off Tamil Nadu and Andhra region.
