The World famous two-month-long Shravani Mela this year was inaugurated today by State Agriculture Minister Badal Patralekh by offering prayers on the occasion of ‘Ashadha Purnima’ at Baba Baidyanathdham temple in Deoghar.

Mr Badal said that this year there are eight Mondays in the two-month-long Shravani Mela. The State government has made adequate arrangements for Kanwariyas to perform the Jal Abhishek puja of Baba Baidyanath.

2 Election Commission launches web portal for filing of Contribution Reports, Audited Annual Accounts and Election Expenditure Statements by Political Parties

Political parties will now be able to file their financial accounts online to the Election Commission. The Commission has launched a web-portal for filing of Contribution Report, Audited Annual Account and Election Expenditure Statements by Political Parties. These financial statements are required to be submitted by political parties to the poll body from time to time as per the Representation of People’s Act and transparency guidelines. In a letter to all political parties, the Commission said that the facility has been created to facilitate political parties in overcoming the difficulties in physical filing of reports and to ensure timely filing of financial statements.

4 Visa to acquire Brazilian fintech Pismo for $1 billion

Payments giant Visa Inc said on Wednesday it would acquire Brazilian fintech platform Pismo for $1 billion in cash to expand its footprint in Latin America as the region continues to attract scores of foreign investments.

Pismo will retain its current management team and the deal is expected to close by the end of 2023, Visa said.

The consolidation also expands Sao Paulo-based Pismo's offerings. It provides technology through which clients can issue Visa and Mastercard cards.

5 Mission Gaganyaan: Crew module recovery divers for India’s space mission complete training

The first batch of Mission Gaganyaan's crew recovery team's training at the Indian Navy's Water Survival Training Facility (WSTF) in Kochi, Kerala, has been completed by the first group.

Using the state-of-the-art facility, the team comprising Indian Naval Divers Marine Commandos went through the recovery training of crew modules in differing ocean conditions, according to the Ministry of Defence statement.

The two-week training capsule included instructions on how to carry out the mission, what to do in an emergency, and familiarisation with various aircraft and their rescue equipment.

6 Shah launches ‘Akshar River Cruise’ on Sabarmati Riverfront

Union Minister for Home and Cooperation Amit Shah Sunday virtually launched the ‘Akshar River Cruise’ on Sabarmati Riverfront.

Developed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited, the cruise is the first passenger catamaran built in the country under Make in India at a cost of Rs 15 crore with twin engines where 165 passengers can travel safely for one-and-a-half hours.

Shah said the cruise is a gift from the Gujarat government and AMC to the citizens of Ahmedabad.
He added that the riverfront was a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he was the Gujarat chief minister. Shah said that the riverfront is not only popular in Ahmedabad but across India and the world, and has emerged as a major centre of tourism.

7 PM Prasad takes over as Coal India chairman

Coal India’s (CIL) newly-appointed chairman and managing director (CMD) PM Prasad on Saturday,while assuming charge, said that uninterrupted coal supply to the power sector is among the top priorities of the public sector coal mining major, according to a company statement.

“CIL would achieve the 780 million tonne (MT) output target of FY 2024 with all efforts and means available at its disposal,“ he said, adding that ensuring uninterrupted coal flow to the power sector is another priority area.

8 BCCI announces Dream11 as India’s new lead sponsor for three years

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) signed a three-year sponsorship deal with fantasy sports gaming platform Dream11 Saturday. From now on, Dream11 will be the lead sponsor of the Indian team.

“Dream11 will be seen on Team India jerseys starting from the Test series against the West Indies, the team’s first assignment in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle,” the BCCI states in a press release.

Board president Roger Binny says, “From being BCCI’s official sponsor to now being the lead sponsor, the BCCI-Dream11 partnership has grown from strength to strength. It is a direct testament to the trust, value, potential and growth that Indian cricket offers.

9 ICC World Cup 2023: West Indies fail to qualify for first time in tournament

After losing to Scotland in the Super Six stage of the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, West Indies have failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

The two-time world champions of the first two World Cups in 1975 and 1979 and also the runners-up in 1983, though it will be the first when the 13th edition of the competition will be without a team from the Caribbean, reported ESPNcricinfo.

The Caribbean had to play the World Cup Qualifiers as they finished ninth in the ODI Super League. As per the rule, only the top eight teams gain direct entry to the ten-team tournament.

10 Europe's Euclid space telescope set for launch to explore 'dark universe'

A SpaceX rocket in Florida stood poised for launch on Saturday carrying an orbital telescope built to shed light on mysterious cosmic phenomena known as dark energy and dark matter, unseen forces scientists say account for 95% of the known universe.

The telescope dubbed Euclid, a European Space Agency (ESA) instrument named for the ancient Greek mathematician called the "father of geometry," was bundled inside the cargo bay of a Falcon 9 rocket set for blast-off around 11 a.m. EDT (1500 GMT) from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

New insights from the $1.4 billion mission, designed to last at least six years, are expected to transform astrophysics and perhaps understanding of the very nature of gravity itself.
