Australia’s Alexei Popyrin fought back from a set down and overcame cramping to shatter Stan Wawrinka’s hopes of a first title in six years by winning the Umag clay-court title on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Popyrin ranked at 90 in the world, came through 6-7 (5/7), 6-3, 6-4 after two hours and 36 minutes on court to claim a second career title to add to his 2021 Singapore victory.

3 RBI sets targets for lenders on CBDC, unclaimed deposits

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken a cue from the finance ministry, implementing a system of assigning business targets to banks for promoting initiatives like the central bank digital currency and the recovery of unclaimed deposits.

Bankers said the regulator is constantly monitoring actions of lenders to meet the targets. For instance, RBI has given a target to generate one million daily digital currency transactions by December, despite bankers’ saying benefits of the central bank digital currency is limited, considering the popularity of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform

4 PM Modi to inaugurate 'Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam' in Delhi tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 'Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam' on Saturday at the Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan here, his office said. The 'samagam' coincides with the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

During the programme, the prime minister will release the first instalment of funds under the PM SHRI Scheme, a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said.

India and Malaysia discussed wide-ranging issues of mutual interest during the 10th meeting of the Sub Committee on Military Cooperation in New Delhi. The Defence Ministry said that both sides have explored effective and practical initiatives to further expand the bilateral defence engagements during the meeting that was held yesterday.

The Ministry said that during the meeting, the Indian delegation highlighted the potential of the national defence industry with the capacity and capability to cooperate with the Malaysian Armed Forces. The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence Amitabh Prasad, while the Malaysian side was headed by Assistant Chief of Staff Maj Gen Dato' Anuar bin Abd Aziz.

6 India signs MoU with Papua New Guinea on sharing INDIA STACK

The first Global DPI Summit was organised by Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) on June 12-13, 2023 in Pune, Maharashtra. The Summit was attended by over 250 delegates in-person, out of which, there were around 150 foreign delegates from 50 countries. More than 2,000 persons attended virtually.

As a follow-up to the summit, Meityof the Republic of India and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) of the Papua New Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sharing INDIA STACK i.e., successful digital solutions implemented at population scale in New Delhi today.

In the MoU signing ceremony, the Indian side was led by Mr. Abhishek Singh, President & CEO, National eGovernance Division, MeitY. He was joined by Mr. Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, MeitY and senior officials from Ministry of External Affairs and National E-Governance Division.

7 India, Laos hold third Foreign Office Consultations in Vientiane

The third India-Laos Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) was held in the capital Vientiane on Thursday.

The FOC was co-chaired by Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs and Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “3rd India-Laos FOC held today in Vientiane, co-chaired by Secy (East) @AmbSaurabhKumar and Dy FM Mr Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Laos.”

8 SEBI reveals framework for the creation of a fund for stressed debt schemes

In a bid to develop the corporate debt market and instill confidence among investors, market regulator SEBI has put in place a framework for rolling out the Corporate Debt Market Development Fund (CDMDF) under which mutual funds will have to contribute 25 basis points (bps) of the specified debt asset under management to the fund.

The initial contribution of mutual funds to CDMDF will be based on AUM of the specified MF schemes as of last December-end. The specified schemes include debt-oriented funds excluding overnight and gilt funds. The move will lead to a contribution of ₹2,242 crore by mutual funds to CDMDF.

9 LIC launches insurance plan 'Jeevan Kiran'

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new term plan ‘Jeevan Kiran’ that returns the premiums paid by policyholders at maturity.

The non-linked and non-participating plan is available for individuals from 18 years to 65 years, and offers life cover with the return of premium, said LIC in a statement. It has a minimum sum assured of Rs 15 lakh for moderate life cover.

The policy term varies from 10 years to 40 years. Premium payment can be made by way of a single premium or by way of a regular premium, which is payable for the policy term. For a sum assured of more than Rs 50 lakh, rebates are available on tabular premium.

10 Razorpay launches MoneySaver export account, offers savings on overseas bank transfers

Payment and banking company Razorpay has launched an account for Indian exporters, the MoneySaver Export Account.

With this product, Indian exporters will be now open a smart account in any country of their choice and receive payments locally via bank transfers on the Razorpay platform.

The initiative allows exporters to receive international bank transfers from 160 countries.
