1 Union Cabinet approves MoU between India, Sierra Leone

The Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 12, 2023 between India’s Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology and and the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Republic of Sierra Leone on Cooperation in the field of sharing successful Digital Solutions implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation.

The MoU aims to encourage closer cooperation and the exchange of experiences and digital technology-based solutions (i.e. INDIA STACK) in the implementation of both countries' digital transformational programmes, the Cabinet said in an official release.

2 Delhi Government imposes a complete ban on all kinds of crackers in city

Amid the rise in pollution levels in the national capital, Delhi Government has imposed a complete ban on all kind of crackers in the city. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said, city Government took the decision to impose ban on production, storage, sell and bursting of crackers to check the rising air pollution. He said, pollution level increases in Delhi during the winters and to tackle this, the Delhi government has started working on the winter action plan.

3 Maharashtra beat Karnataka to win 5th National Wheelchair Rugby Championship 2023

Maharashtra beat Karnataka with the final score of 31-10 in the finals at the recently concluded 5th National Wheelchair Rugby Championship 2023 held at Balewadi, Pune from September 10 to September 11, 2023.

The championship was conducted by The Indian Rugby Football Union (Rugby India), the sole governing body for the sport of rugby in India, in association with the Wheelchair Rugby Federation of India and Mitsubishi Corporation. The championship received an overwhelming participation of over 120 athletes from across the country.

5 India’s Sindhu Gangadharan appointed as Nasscom Vice-Chairperson

Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP and MD, SAP Labs India and Head of SAP User Enablement, has been appointed Vice-Chairperson of The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom).

In her new role, she will leverage her experience in technology and corporate leadership gained over decades in both India and Germany to help shape India’s TechAde. As the first woman to lead SAP Labs India, SAP’s largest R&D centre globally, Gangadharan oversees product development and innovation at all five centres — Bangalore, Gurgaon, Pune, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. In addition, she is the Head of SAP User Enablement, which provides enablement for SAP’s entire product portfolio.

6 Govt approves signing of MoU between India & Armenia

The Government on Wednesday (13 September 2023) approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia on Cooperation in the field of sharing successful Digital Solutions implemented at the Population Scale for Digital Transformation. The MoU intends to promote closer cooperation and exchange of experiences and digital technologies-based solutions in the implementation of digital transformational initiatives of both the country. It envisages improved collaboration leading to employment opportunities in the field of IT. The MoU will remain in force for a period of three years.

In another decision of the Cabinet Meeting, the Centre also approved the signing of similar Memorandum of Understanding MoUs with Antigua and Barbuda and Sierra Leone on Cooperation in the field of sharing successful Digital Solutions implemented at the Population Scale for Digital Transformation.

7 2 Indian-origin authors shortlisted for British Academy Book Prize

Two authors of Indian heritage, UK-based Nandini Das and US-based Kris Manjapra, are among six worldwide writers on the shortlist unveiled in London on Tuesday for the 2023 British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding, a leading international non-fiction prize worth GBP 25,000.

India-born Nandini Das is in the running for 'Courting India: England, Mughal India and the Origins of Empire' and Caribbean-born Manjapra of mixed African and Indian parentage has been shortlisted for 'Black Ghost of Empire: The Long Death of Slavery and the Failure of Emancipation'.

8 Arrobot develops unmanned guided vehicle for armed forces

A startup from Hyderabad, Arrobot, has developed an Unmanned Guided Vehicle (UGV) for the armed forces.

It will help users in logistics, surveillance and reconnaissance in difficult terrain and environment. It can carry up to 200 kg and tug up to 600 kg and offers a 30-degree view. With additional attachments, it will be able to execute multiple other functions, the startup said on Monday.

The company said it has received at least 10 unique orders for the UGV from multinational companies and Government of India undertakings.

9 62nd edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament will be held from 19th September

The 62nd edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament will be held from 19th September this year. A total of 109 teams from 27 States and Union Territories will participate in the tournament. Under - 17 Junior Boys and Girls tournaments will be held in Delhi and Gurugram, While Under-14 Sub Junior Boys Competition will be held in Bengaluru.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Air Marshal R K Anand and Vice Chairman Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society said, the aim of this tournament is to promote football at grassroots level. He said the teams from Bangladesh and Nepal will also participate in Subroto Cup.

AIR correspondent reports that the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament is a prestigious inter-school football tournament that is held annually. The Tournament is named after Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee, who conceived the Idea to promote sports at the grassroots level. It is an annual event that began in 1960. This is a unique tournament where in, the champion school teams from all states and foreign countries participate in this tournament.

10 NATO Countries planning to hold biggest military exercise

The NATO Countries are planning to hold the biggest military exercise since the Cold War. It will start in the spring next year. It is expected to involve between 500 and 700 air combat missions, more than 50 ships, and about 41,000 troops. The exercise is designed to model potential manoeuvres against an enemy modelled on a coalition led by Russia, named Occasus for the purposes of the drill. It is to practice repelling a Russian attack against a member of the alliance.

The "Steadfast Defender" exercises is part of NATO's push to transform from crisis response to a war-fighting alliance. The drills will be carried out on the territory of Germany, Poland, and the Baltic countries. Sweden, whose full accession to NATO is yet to be approved, is expected to join the drills. Bringing the total number of nations involved to 32.
