2 Bangladesh to host 24th Asian Archery Championships in 2025

Bangladesh will host the 24th Asian Archery Championships in 2025 after winning by 14-10 votes in the bid at the World Archery Asia Congress held on Friday in Bangkok, Thailand.
A total of twenty four member countries of the Asian continent participated in the congress. Bangladesh and China applied for bids as host countries for the 24th Asian Archery Championship, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.

When the vote was held between the two countries that participated in the bid at the Congress, Bangladesh won the vote and was allowed to host the Asian Archery Championship.
The 23rd Asian Archery Championship will begin on Sunday (Nov 5) in Bangkok, Thailand.

3 Sunil Joliya Jinabhai of Gujarat sets new record in 3000 metre steeplechase at National Games in Goa

Exhilarating performances from sportspersons across the country were witnessed at The 37th National Games in Goa. Games like hockey, cycling, lawn tennis are ongoing. In addition to these games, today the traditional games of India Kabaddi and Kho-Kho began in the National Games.

Gujarat's Sunil Joliya Jinabhai made a new national games record in the steeplechase 3000m with an impressive time of 8 minutes and 37.15 seconds. Sanjana Sood from Haryana won Gold Medal in Shotgun Skeet (Female).

In Lawn Bowls, Chottukumari of Jharkhand won Gold in Woman Single and Sunil Bahadur, Dinesh Kumar won Gold in Men Pairs. In cycling track race Omnium IV 20 KM Point Race, Meenakshi of Haryana won Gold medal. In Men's Wushu, Santosh Kumar Mishra of Uttar Pradesh emerged as gold medal winner in 48kg category, Manish of Haryana won gold in 52 kg and Aethokpam James Meiti of Manipur won gold in 56 Kg category.

4 1st Australia India Education and Skill Council meet today at IIT Gandhinagar

In a key step towards collaboration, the first Australia India Education and Skill Council (AIESC) meeting will be held on Monday at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar. The meeting will be jointly chaired by Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, Australian Minister for Education Jason Clare, and Minister for Skills and Training Brendan O’Connor.

“The AIESC, earlier the Australian India Education Council (AIEC), is a bi-national body established in 2011 to guide the strategic direction of the education, training, and research partnerships between the two countries. The scope of this forum was enhanced in alignment with the national priorities of both countries to bring focus on promoting internationalisation, two-way mobility, and collaboration in the domains of education as well as the skill ecosystem,” read a government release on Sunday.

5 In Chess, R Vaishali and Vidit Gujrathi win FIDE Grand Swiss Women's and Open titles in UK

In Chess, R Vaishali drew her last-round game against Mongolia’s Batkhuyag Munguntuul to win FIDE Women’s Grand Swiss 2023 at the Isle of Man in UK last night. Vidit Gujrathi beat Alexandr Predke of Serbia to record his seventh victory in the event and take the top spot in open section.

Both players also qualified for the prestigious Candidates tournament to be played in April next year in Canada. Both Vaishali and Vidit ended with identical 8.5 points apiece and stayed a half point clear of nearest rivals.

While Vaishali got richer by over 20 lakh rupees, Vidit took home a whopping prize purse of over 66 lakh rupees.

6 Hockey: India Lifts Women's Asian Champions Trophy; thrashes Japan 4-0

The Indian women’s hockey team dethroned Japan on Sunday to crown themselves Asian Champions Trophy winners. The hosts beat Japan 4-0 in the final in Ranchi. India overcame the two-time champions through goals from Sangita Kumari, Neha, Laremsiami and Vandana Katariya.

India won their maiden Asian Champions Trophy title in 2016 in Singapore, while Japan has bagged the crown twice, in 2013 and 2021.

Following their win, the Captain of Indian women's hockey team, Savita Punia said, "We are feeling very good right now. When we came here we were a bit nervous as Japan is a very good team. Japan played very well too. We played aggressively after halftime."

7 Kerala Jyothi award for writer T. Padmanabhan

Eminent writer T. Padmanabhan has been chosen for the Kerala Jyothi award instituted by the Kerala government on Wednesday. He was selected for the highest civilian honour by the government considering his contributions in the field of Malayalam literature. The State also announced other ‘Kerala Puraskarngals’, the highest award given by the government to distinguished personalities who have made outstanding contributions in various spheres of social life.

Justice (Retired) M. Fathima Beevi and Nataraja Krishnamurthy (Soorya Krishnamurthy) have been selected for the ‘Kerala Prabha’ award considering contributions in the field of social service and civil service and in the field of arts respectively. Others who won the ‘Kerala Sree’ award include Punalur Somarajan (social service sector), V.P. Gangadharan (health sector), Ravi DC (industry and commerce sector), K.M. Chandrasekhar (civil service sector), Pandit Ramesh Narayan (art, music).

9 Shiv Nadar tops philanthropy list with ?2,042-crore donations

Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies, has retained the top spot as the leading Indian philanthropist, donating ₹2,042 crore annually, according to a report. Azim Premji, Mukesh Ambani, and Kumar Mangalam Birla also feature in the top four positions. The top 10 philanthropists collectively donated ₹5,806 crore in 2022-23, a significant increase from the previous year. The report also highlights a growing trend of large-scale donations, with the number of donors contributing over ₹100 crore and ₹50 crore increasing in recent years.

Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies, has retained the top spot for the second consecutive year as the leading Indian philanthropist with annual donations of ₹2,042 crore, a report has said. The 78-year-old has topped the chart for the third time in five years.
