Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to be Chief Guest at India's Republic Day celebrations on 26th January
President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, will pay a state visit to India from the 24th to the 26th of this month. President El-Sisi will be the Chief Guest at India’s 74th Republic Day. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including five Ministers and senior officials.
This is for the first time that the President of Egypt has been invited as Chief Guest at India's Republic Day celebrations. A military contingent from the Egyptian Army will also participate in the Republic Day parade.

It was on this day in 1897, that Neta Ji was born in Cuttack, Odisha. The day is celebrated as Parakram Diwas.
The 23rd of January is celebrated as Parakram Diwas every year to inspire people of the country, especially the youth, to act with fortitude in the face of adversity as Netaji did, and to infuse in them a spirit of patriotic fervour.
Fifth Kalvari class submarine INS Vagir to be inducted into Indian Navy
The fifth Kalvari class submarine INS Vagir will be inducted into Indian Navy today, January 23.
The submarine, built in India by Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in collaboration with France-based Naval Group, will be commissioned by Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar. Vagir has the distinction of having the lowest build time among all indigenously manufactured submarines to date.
Vagir will boost Indian Navy’s capabilities as it is capable of undertaking diverse missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, mine laying, and surveillance missions. Vagir is named after Sand Shark, which represents ‘Stealth and Fearlessness’, two qualities that are synonymous with the ethos of a submariner.
PM Modi to name 21 islands of Andaman & Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra Awardees
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will name the 21 largest unnamed islands of Andaman & Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees today, January 23.
He will virtually attend the event being held at Port Blair. The Prime Minister will also unveil the model of the National Memorial dedicated to Netaji. Home Minister Amit Shah will be present at the event and address the gathering. He arrived in Port Blair last night on a two-day visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan will also attend the event.
Three-day annual conference of DGPs and IGPs begins in New Delhi

India International Science Festival to be commenced in Bhopal today
India International Science Festival is commencing in Madhya Pradesh today. The festival, organised at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology-MANIT, Bhopal, will continue till the 24th of January. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the India International Science Festival. Union Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh will be present as a special guest.
More than 8,000 delegates from different regions of the country will participate in the science festival being held for the first time in Bhopal. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said, the Construction of the 109 km green field Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway will reduce the travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera by one hour. This highway will provide direct connectivity to Dholera Green Field Airport. He was briefing the media after inspecting the section of the Ahmedabad-Dholera National Highway near Kavitha village today.
He said that this four-lane highway which will be constructed at an estimated cost of 4,000 crore rupees will significantly contribute to the economic and social development of the Dholera region. Apart from Ahmedabad-Dholera, currently, three other expressways are under construction in the state which includes Delhi Mumbai Expressway, Amritsar Jamnagar Expressway, and Tharad Ahmedabad Expressway.

21st edition of Naval Exercise VARUNA between India and France begins
The 21st Edition of the Bilateral Naval Exercise between India and France- Exercise VARUNA commenced on the Western Seaboard on Monday. The exercise will be conducted till the 20th of this month and will witness advanced air defence exercises, tactical manoeuvres, surface firings, underway replenishment and other maritime operations. The Ministry of Defence in a statement said that this exercise provides an opportunity to learn from each other’s best practices. The exercise facilitates operational-level interaction between the two navies to foster mutual cooperation for good order at sea, underscoring the shared commitment of both nations to security, safety and freedom of the global maritime commons.
While the bilateral exercise between the two navies was initiated in 1993, it was christened as ‘VARUNA’ in 2001 and has become a hallmark of India - France's strategic bilateral relationship.
