Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana to empowering the elderly for a dignified life
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has been working towards creating an inclusive and equitable society for all its citizens. Over the past nine years, the Ministry has launched several schemes and initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized sections of society, including students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes through Scholarships, Elderly Citizens, Safai Karmcharis, and Transgender people. The Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY), introduced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at empowering senior citizens in India. This scheme recognizes the invaluable contribution made by the elderly to society and seeks to ensure their well-being and social inclusion. By recognizing the invaluable contributions of the elderly to society, the government aims to empower and uplift them, ensuring their active participation and inclusion in all aspects of life.
The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, being the Nodal Department for welfare of senior citizens, is implementing various programs and schemes. National Action Plan for Senior Citizen (NAPSrc) had been revamped, renamed as Atal VayoAbhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) and subsumed in April 2021.
Sex education to be compulsory in Irish schools
Lessons in relationships and sex education (RSE) are to be compulsory for 15 to 18 year olds at schools in the Republic of Ireland.
The move is planned as part of changes to the social, personal and health education (SPHE) for senior pupils.
Lessons will be "taught in a way that LGBTQ+ identities, relationships and families are fully integrated", according to the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA).

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday inaugurated the indigenously developed Differential Global Navigation Satellite System (DGNSS) “Sagar Sampark” for further strengthening digital transformation of the Indian maritime sector, as part of the Digital India campaign, to bring in efficiency and efficacy of marine operation in the country.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, while speaking on the occasion, said that the launch of ‘Sagar Sampark’, at six locations under DGLL, will definitely enhance the capability of the DGLL in the field of radio aids to marine navigation.

International Financial Services Centres Authority inks MoU with IIML–EIC to boost FinTech support
International Financial Services Centers Authority (IFSCA) and IIML-EIC, have signed a MoU to collaborate in supporting and facilitating FinTech and TechFin entities.
“The Memorandum of Understanding aims to put in place a framework for cooperation and understanding between IFSCA and IIML-EIC to collaborate in supporting and facilitating FinTech and TechFin entities,” an official release said.
It said IFSCA is responsible for the development and regulation of international financial services, including that of the insurance sector, in the IFSC (International Financial Services Centre) which is treated as a separate international financial jurisdiction, distinct from rest of India.
Assam govt employees to serve for three-five years in places designated as ‘Durgam’ areas
Assam government on Wednesday decided that every government employee has to work for a period of 3-5 years during the course of their service in certain geographical areas designated as ‘Durgam’ areas in the state.
The decision was taken during the state cabinet meeting held on Wednesday in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Announcing the cabinet decisions, Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu said that, in-principle approval for the ‘Sugam to Durgam’ scheme for better citizen-centric governance and service delivery.

Billionaire Elon Musk's xAI on Wednesday announced the formation of the artificial intelligence (AI) start-up with the launch of its website, unveiling a team made up of engineers who have worked at companies from Alphabet-owned Google to Microsoft and OpenAI.
The start-up will be led by Musk, the CEO of Tesla and owner of Twitter, who has said on several occasions that the development of AI should be paused and that the sector needs regulation.

The 7th Deputy NSA level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) was hosted by the Maldives on 12 July 2023. Member States India, Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka met in the virtual format. Ganemat Sekhon sets national record at ISSF World Cup Shotgun Lonato 2023
Indian shooter Ganemat Sekhon scored 120 in the women’s skeet qualifying round of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun Lonato 2023 to claim a new national record on Wednesday.
Even though she claimed a national record, Ganemat failed to win a medal along with all six Indian skeet shooters at the Trap Concaverde Shooting Range in Italy.
Ganemat, who won a silver medal in the women’s individual skeet events at the ISSF World Cup in Almaty in May, shot a perfect round of 25 but missed out on a place in the six-woman final as she finished in seventh position.
