President Murmu Launching the Brahma Kumari theme ‘The Year of Positive Change-2023

Open AI’s Sam Altman unveils iris scanning crypto project Worldcoin

Open AI’s Sam Altman, who introduced ChatGPT, launched eyeball scanning cryptocurrency project Worldcoin. The project is aimed at using blockchain to store World IDs to enhance security and control, as per the project whitepaper.

Worldcoin aims at offering World ID, by authenticating a “digital passport” through iris scanning with the help of a device called ‘orb’ to ensure that an individual is a human and not an AI bot. The orb device would guarantee the genuineness of a human and in turn, generate World ID. Interested ones can download World App, and get their World ID by scanning iris by Orb.

Worldcoin is backed by Tools for Humans organisation, operating in San Francisco and Berlin.



4th ECSWG & Environment & Climate Ministers' meeting begins in Chennai

The 4th Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) and Environment and Climate Ministers meeting began in Chennai today, July 26.

The three-day meeting brings together around 300 delegates from G20 member countries, invitee countries, and several International Organisations, with a focus on finalising the Ministerial Outcome and the Presidency Documents.


The 4th ECSWG & Minister's Meeting will focus on three key areas - land restoration, circular economy, and blue economy. These topics will take centre stage during the meeting to address environmental and sustainability challenges. On the first day of the event, there will be two parallel sessions -: the Environment Track and the Climate Track. These sessions will delve into different aspects related to environmental and climate issues, with a focus on in-depth discussions about land degradation, biodiversity, and climate change.

Phangnon Konyak becomes first woman MP from Nagaland to preside over Rajya Sabha

BJP’s S Phangnon Konyak on Tuesday became the first woman member from Nagaland to preside over Rajya Sabha. On July 17, she became the first ever woman member of Rajya Sabha to be appointed to the panel of vice-chairpersons.

“Marking a significant moment in history, the first woman member from Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha, S Phangnon Konyak presided over the House today,” an official statement said.



Uttar Pradesh govt considering proposal to raise retirement age of doctors to 65 years

To address the shortage of doctors in Uttar Pradesh, the state government is considering a proposal to increase the retirement age of government doctors from 62 years to 65 years, said a report by Hindustan Times.

Currently, there are 14,000 doctors working across 19,000 sanctioned posts in the state.

“We need more doctors for which the proposal to increase retirement age from the present 62-years to 65-years has been made. But those doctors opting to work till 65 years of age will not be given administrative charge after age 62 years," said a senior health official in the report.



India finish 2nd on medals tally at ISSF World Championship in South Korea

India finished 2nd on the medals tally at the recently concluded ISSF Junior Shooting World Championships 2023 in Changwon, South Korea. Indian shooters bagged 17 medals, which include 6 Gold, 6 Silver, and 5 Bronze. The championships saw 90 Indian shooters vie for medals in pistol, rifle, and shotgun competitions in the under-21 age category. The majority of the medalists were Khelo India athletes. Seven Indians managed to bag more than one medal. Abhinav Shaw and Kamaljeet won two golds each. Sainyam won three medals — gold in the 10m air pistol women, and a bronze each in the 10m air pistol mixed team and women’s team events.



Tata Motors appoints Rajesh Kannan as President and CDIO

The appointment will be effective from 1 August, 2023, the firm said in a stock regulatory filing on 25 July.

“We hereby inform you that the Board of Directors at its meeting held today, i.e., on July 25, 2023, has appointed Mr. Rajesh Kannan as President & Chief Digital and Information Officer (‘CDIO’), Senior Management Personnel of Tata Motors Limited (‘the Company’) w.e.f August 1, 2023," Tata Motors said.

Kannan has twenty-eight years of experience delivering transformative, end-to-end digital and IT engagements for global organisations across multiple sectors and industries including retail, consumer products, media and advertising, banking, insurance and financial services, the firm said.



Nation celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas

The Nation celebrates the Kargil Vijay Diwas today, remembering the sacrifice made by soldiers of the Indian Army. On this day, the country commemorates the Army’s triumph over Pakistani troops in Kargil, Ladakh, in 1999, after more than 60 days of battle. 

The main function was held at Kargil War Memorial in Drass. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, other top Army Commanders and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig (Retd) BD Mishra attended the ceremony at Drass among others. They laid wreaths at the memorial to pay tributes to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the country during the Kargil War.
