RBI approves reappointment of B Ramesh Babu as MD & CEO of Karur Vysya Bank for third term

The Reserve Bank of India has approved approves reappointment of B Ramesh Babu as MD & CEO of Karur Vysya Bank for third term of two years. This will be effective from July 29, 2026. The RBI approved Babu’s re-appointment on April 24, the bank said in an announcement to the stock exchanges.



FM Nirmala Sitharaman Calls for Coordinated Effort to Simplify KYC

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today appealed all financial regulator to work together for easing KYC process for common citizens. Addressing SEBI’s 38th foundation day celebration in Mumubai today, Finance Minister said, it is the shared responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure that no citizen has to repeat the same verification journey across multiple financial products and platforms. During the event she also launched SEBI’S investor awareness initiative JAGROOK.

Finance Minister warned that, a single successful cyberattack on a major exchange, depository, clearing corporation, or large broker could disrupt markets at national scale, erase wealth, and shake public confidence in ways that take years to rebuild. In order to avoid these disruptions, she urged SEBI and all regulated Entities to remain exceptionally vigilant. She added that, SEBI should invest very substantially in public awareness, through campaigns on every major platform in regional languages, and through rapid-response takedown mechanisms for fraudulent content impersonating public officials.



IITM installs Doppler radar in Mahabaleshwar, boost to nowcasting in Pune

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) on Thursday commissioned a state-of-the-art X-band dual-polarisation Doppler weather radar at its High Altitude Cloud Physics Laboratory (HACPL) in Mahabaleshwar under the Centre’s Mission Mausam initiative, officials said.

The system was inaugurated by M. Ravichandran, secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, in the presence of A. Suryachandra Rao, director, IITM, and Somya S. Sarkar, director of the Space Applications Centre, along with senior scientists.

Installed at an altitude of around 1,400 metres above sea level in the Western Ghats, the radar will function as a “weather eye in the sky”, tracking rainfall, cloud movement and storms in real time. The location is significant given Mahabaleshwar’s rapidly changing weather conditions, including sudden rain, dense fog and strong winds.



DRDO Chief Unveils Advanced Armoured Platforms in Maharashtra

Chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Dr Samir V Kamat, today unveiled the Advanced Armoured Platforms (Tracked and Wheeled) at the premises of the DRDO’s laboratory in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said that the platforms have been developed to meet the emerging operational requirements of the Defence Forces. Both the Tracked and Wheeled platforms have been integrated with indigenously designed advanced features to meet the mobility, firepower and protection requirements. TATA Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited carried out the manufacturing of the platforms.



J&K: Six Border Villages in Kathua included under Vibrant Village Programme-II for Infrastructure Boost

In Jammu and Kashmir, six strategically located border villages in Kathua district have been brought under the Centre’s Vibrant Village Programme-II to strengthen development infrastructure and ensure full saturation of welfare schemes.

The villages including Bobiya, Kadyala, Gajnal, Karol Krishna, Rathua and Gujjar Chak along the International Border, were identified at a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Kathua Rajesh Sharma yesterday.

Emphasizing effective implementation, Mr Sharma directed officials to ensure timely execution of plans through regular monitoring and close inter-departmental coordination. He also stressed community participation and asked departments to conduct field-level verification, identify gaps and ensure last-mile delivery of all flagship schemes.



MoEFCC and NBA Launch 5-Year Project to Strengthen Biodiversity Governance

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the National Biodiversity Authority have launched a five-year project to strengthen grassroots biodiversity governance in Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya. The project will be implemented from 2025 to 2030 with a grant of over 4.88 million US dollars. The initiative aims to empower local communities and institutions by integrating biodiversity conservation into Gram Panchayat Development Plans and promoting innovative financing mechanisms. The Ministry informed that the project, titled Strengthening Institutional Capacities for Securing Biodiversity Conservation Commitments, is a joint initiative of the Government, the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Programme.

In Tamil Nadu, it will cover the Sathyamangalam landscape, including the Mudumalai and Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserves. In Meghalaya, it will be implemented across the Garo Hills region, covering the Nokrek Biosphere Reserve, Balpakram National Park and Siju Wildlife Sanctuary. The project will focus on two ecologically significant landscapes. The Ministry said that the initiative aligns with India’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, the global 30×30 biodiversity target, and the country’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, while also supporting state vision documents of Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya.



Reliance Enterprise Intelligence names Parminder Singh as CEO

Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Ltd has appointed Parminder Singh as its chief executive officer, according to a statement from Reliance Industries.

REIL, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and Meta Platforms, was incorporated in India on October 24, 2025, and focuses on developing, marketing and distributing sovereign AI solutions for Indian enterprises.

The venture aims to strengthen its presence in the fast-growing enterprise AI space. Reliance Intelligence holds a 70% stake in the company, while Facebook holds the remaining 30% equity.

Himadri commissions India’s first anode material production unit, plans to export to US, Europe from Q3FY27

India’s largest speciality carbon black maker Himadri Speciality Chemical, which has commissioned the country’s first anode material production facility in West Bengal, is planning to export the anode material, an essential material for producing lithium-ion batteries, to overseas markets, especially to the US and Europe, from the third quarter this fiscal.

The Kolkata-headquartered company achieved a significant milestone with the commissioning of the country’s first anode material production facility at Mahistikry, West Bengal, on Thursday with an initial capacity of 200 MTPA.

“We have been working on this anode material technology for the last 14 years. We have made huge investment for developing this product. And the quality of our product, which we are producing, is very high. We are the first company in India to commercialise anode material production for lithium-ion battery,” Anurag Choudhary, CMD & CEO, Himadri Speciality Chemical, told businessline.



Union Minister Piyush Goyal launches process of onboarding drivers for Bharat Taxi in Mumbai

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal today launched the process of onboarding drivers for Bharat Taxi in Mumbai. Speaking at the gathering, Chief Operating Officer of Bharat Taxi Vivek Pandey stated that Bharat Taxi will be launched in Mumbai for consumers in the first week of May.

Addressing the ‘Saarthis’ on this occasion, Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that Bharat Taxi will, in the future, move ahead of mobility giants and appealed to drivers to join the initiative. He stated that the app operates on a cooperative basis and added that, as it is designed to serve people and not for profit, it does not charge any commission or subscription fees like other apps. He suggested that Bharat Taxi should offer benefits to drivers at par with, or better than, other apps in order to increase their income. He also advised drivers to opt for electric vehicles instead of CNG to reduce expenses and increase income.
