Gujarat to build two rubber dams on Heran and Ambika rivers for irrigation and flood control

Gujarat is set to construct two air-filled rubber dams on the Heran River in Chhota Udepur district and the Ambika River in Tapi district, in a combined project worth over ₹160 crore. The initiative marks the state’s first use of South Korean technology-based rubber dam systems, aimed at improving irrigation reliability, groundwater recharge and flood control in water-stressed regions.

The choice of rubber dams over conventional check dams or gated structures is driven largely by site conditions. Officials noted that the regions have flat terrain and low riverbanks, where traditional structures are less effective in storing water and managing seasonal flows. The inflatable design allows water to be stored during dry periods and quickly released during heavy monsoons, help reduce flooding, erosion and long-term silt buildup.

OPEC+ agrees in principle on 188,000 bpd oil output hike for August

OPEC+ has a preliminary agreement for another modest oil quota increase in August, delegates said, raising the prospect of more supply eventually hitting the market again if a US-Iran peace pact can stick.

If ratified at a video conference on Sunday, seven major nations led by Saudi Arabia and Russia will add 188,000 barrels a day to their output target, the delegates said.

It would be in keeping with the group’s plan to finish reversing output curbs made a few years ago, and mean that, since the war began, they’ve added 940,000 barrels a day to quotas — equivalent to almost 1% of global demand.
