Adani Green Energy appoints Saurabh Shah as new CFO
Adani Green Energy on Saturday said its board has approved the appointment of Saurabh Shah as the company’s Chief Financial Officer.
Phuntsok Wangyal, the current Chief Financial Officer, will relinquish his position in view of his resignation, effective on September 30, 2024, the company said in a stock exchange filing.
According to the filing, the board in its meeting held on Saturday approved that Shah, presently serving as Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Adani Enterprises Limited, will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer of AGEL with effect from October 1, 2024.

The Tamil Nadu government on Friday said it has signed an MoU with US-headquartered Rapid Global Business Solutions, Inc, a supplier of business solutions across various industries, and the firm would set up a new unit in the state by investing Rs 100 crore.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin in Chicago on September 12 between officials of the state and the company, represented by its Chairman and CEO Nanua Singh and others, an official release here said, adding the new electronic and telematics firm would come up at Hosur. Industries Minister TRB Rajaa and top state officials were present.
In total, the state government has inked pacts totally worth Rs 7,616 crore with 18 companies during the Chief Minister’s official US tour to attract investments.
Delhi airport ranked 24th among top ‘megahub’ airports globally, Mumbai airport at 44th spot
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has been ranked among the top 25 “megahub” airports globally by international aviation data and analytics firm OAG. IGIA has improved its position to the 24th spot from last year’s 25th in OAG’s latest list of megahub airports—those with the highest ratio of possible scheduled international connections to the number of destinations served.
The only other Indian airport among the top 50 megahub airports—Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA)—however dropped 10 spots from last year to the 44th position.
However, both Delhi and Mumbai airports are ranked much higher in the OAG’s list of the top megahub airports for low-cost carrier (LCC) operations, thanks to India’s largest airline IndiGo—also counted among the top LCCs globally—using the two airports as its major hubs. In this category, the Delhi airport has been ranked fifth, a spot higher from last year, while the Mumbai airport has retained its 11th rank.
WHO grants first mpox vaccine approval to enhance response in Africa
The World Health Organisation on Friday said it has granted its first authorisation for use of a vaccine against mpox in adults, calling it an important step toward fighting the disease in Africa and beyond.
The pre-qualification of the vaccine by Bavarian Nordic A/S means that donors like GAVI the Vaccine Alliance and UNICEF can buy it. But supplies are limited because there's only a single manufacturer.
This first pre-qualification of a vaccine against mpox is an important step in our fight against the disease, both in the context of the current outbreaks in Africa, and in future, said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Nehal Vora reappointed MD and CEO of CDSL
Nehal Vora has been reappointed as the MD and CEO of Central Depository Services India (CDSL). Vora has been heading the country’s only listed depository since September 24, 2019.
His second five-year term will be from September 18, 2024, till September 17, 2029. His appointment follows regulatory nod from Sebi in a letter dated August 29. CDSL handles over 130 million demat accounts.
Shares of CDSL last closed at Rs 1,382, up 0.25 per cent, valuing the company at Rs 28,879 crore.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah to inaugurate 'Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag'
September 13 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate 'Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag' on Saturday with an objective to promote use of Indian languages along with Hindi and establish better coordination between them.
Shah will inaugurate the 'Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag' while attending the inaugural session of official language Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the 4th Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan being organised by Department of Official Language on September 14-15 here in the national capital to commemorate the completion of 75 years of Hindi becoming the official language, a statement said.
Keeping in view the intent of the Constitution and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's direction, a Home Ministry statement mentioned, the Department of Official Language of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had proposed to establish Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag with the objective of promoting the use of Indian languages along with Hindi and establishing better coordination between them.
Swati Vijay Kulkarni appointed as India's next ambassador to Algeria
Swati Vijay Kulkarni has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Algeria, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday.
Swati Vijay Kulkarni is an Indian Foreign Service Officer of 1995 batch. She is presently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry.
In a statement, MEA stated, "Dr Swati Vijay Kulkarni (IFS: 1995), presently Additional Secretary in the Ministry, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria."
"She is expected to take up the assignment shortly," it added.
Port Blair to be renamed as Sri Vijaya Puram, says Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday (September 13, 2024) that Port Blair will be renamed as Sri Vijaya Puram.
In an X post, Mr. Shah said, “Inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, to free the nation from the colonial imprints, today we have decided to rename Port Blair as ‘Sri Vijaya Puram’.”
“While the earlier name had a colonial legacy, Sri Vijaya Puram symbolises the victory achieved in our freedom struggle and the A&N Islands’ unique role in the same,” he said in the post. “Andaman and Nicobar Islands have an unparalleled place in our freedom struggle and history. The island territory that once served as the naval base of the Chola Empire is today poised to be the critical base for our strategic and development aspirations.”
India participates in BRICS Literature Forum 2024 in Russia
The BRICS Literature Forum 2024 began on Wednesday in Kazan, Russia, bringing together prominent writers, poets, philosophers, artists, and scholars from the BRICS nations. The forum was inaugurated by the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, under the theme, “World Literature in the New Reality: Dialogue of Traditions, National Values, and Cultures.”

South Africa’s Indian-origin former minister Pravin Gordhan dies at 75
Johannesburg, Sep 13 (PTI) Pravin Gordhan, a veteran Indian-origin South African politician and anti-apartheid activist, died at a hospital here on Friday after a brief battle with cancer, his family said.
Gordhan, 75, had been in South African politics since 1994 when the country was transitioning to democracy.
Barely four months ago, he had announced that he was retiring from active politics to spend more time with his family.
The former Cabinet minister died early Friday in hospital after “a short, courageous battle with cancer”, his family said in a statement.
