India, South Korea sign landmark MoU on military infra, cyber security and defence during Rajnath Singh’s Seoul visit
India and South Korea on Tuesday formalised a new defence cooperation agreement focused on cybersecurity and information sharing during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Seoul.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Singh and South Korean Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-Back as part of efforts by both countries to deepen strategic and military coordination in the Indo-Pacific region.
The agreement aims to expand collaboration in areas linked to cyber defence, intelligence exchange and the protection of sensitive military infrastructure. It also seeks to strengthen institutional frameworks for sharing defence-related information and improving regional security coordination.
Nepal's Kami Rita Climbs Mount Everest For 32nd Time, Breaking His Own Record
Nepal's mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa made history on Sunday by breaking his own world record for the highest number of ascents of Mt. Everest as he scaled the world's highest peak for the 32nd time.
The 56-year-old veteran climber reached the 8,849-metre peak at 10:12 am on Sunday, according to the Department of Tourism.
He was leading an expedition operated by 14 Peaks Expedition, it said.
The successful ascent was confirmed by the department's field office stationed at Everest Base Camp, reported The Kathmandu Post.

PM Modi visits Dutch water management project Afsluitdijk as India, Netherlands sign Kalpasar pact
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday visited the iconic Dutch water management project Afsluitdijk, a 32-kilometre-long dam and causeway that has become a global benchmark in flood control and land reclamation.
Modi was accompanied by Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The visit came at a time when the two countries had signed a Letter of Intent with regard to the Kalpasar project in Gujarat. The Letter of Intent was signed between India’s Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Netherlands’ Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management for technical cooperation.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “The visit underscored the shared commitment of both nations to innovative water management solutions, climate resilience, and sustainable infrastructure.”
President Droupadi Murmu approves increase in sanctioned strength of judges in SC from 33 to 37
President Droupadi Murmu has approved an increase in the sanctioned strength of judges in the Supreme Court from 33 to 37, excluding the Chief Justice of India, through the promulgation of the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Ordinance, 2026. According to the gazette notification, published by the Law and Justice Ministry, the ordinance amends the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956. With this amendment, the total strength of the apex court, including the Chief Justice of India, will rise to 38 judges.
POWERGRID Approves 584 Crore for Power & Communication Projects
In a significant move to strengthen India’s national power transmission and communication infrastructure, the state-run Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has announced an investment approval of three major projects totaling ₹584.13 crore.
The approval was granted by the ‘Committee of Directors on Investment on Projects’ in a meeting held today, the company informed stock exchanges in a regulatory filing under SEBI Regulation 30.
NTPC Wins GMC India National Finals 2025
NTPC has done the nation proud at the Global Management Challenge (GMC) India National Finals 2025.
The competition was held in New Delhi on May 15. It is the world's largest strategy and management competition where teams compete in a business simulation to get the best investment performance.

Ghanshyam Das Gupta assumes charge as Director (Mining) of HCL
Ghanshyam Das Gupta has assumed charge as Director (Mining) of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, on Thursday. Prior to this, he was serving as Executive Director & Unit Head of Khetri Copper Complex in Rajasthan of the organisation.
Gupta was recommended for the post of Director (Mining) of HCL by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel. He was selected from a list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel in its 5th selection meeting of 2026 held on January 23.
Further, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment to the said post. On May 11, the Ministry of Mines conveyed its approval, which was later informed by the mining PSU to the stock exchanges through a regulatory filing.
Australia bans neo-Nazi network under new law that criminalises hate groups
Australia identified a neo-Nazi network as the second organisation being banned under its new law criminalising hate groups and support for them.
The group, formerly known as the National Socialist Network and sometimes called White Australia, said it would disband after the government in January passed the law allowing certain organisations to be banned. The law was in response to the antisemitic attack on a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney's Bondi Beach in December in which 15 people were killed.
Satellite-tagged softshell turtle released in Kaziranga, first such conservation move in India
Assam marked a major milestone in wildlife conservation with the release of India’s first satellite-tagged Ganges softshell turtle in the Brahmaputra at Kaziranga National Park.
The turtle was released on April 28 but the development came to light on Friday after Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X on Endangered Species Day.
Sarma wrote: “A first for India at Kaziranga! Marking #EndangeredSpeciesDay, the country’s 1st satellite-tagged Ganges softshell turtle was released in @kaziranga_, a major step for wildlife conservation.”
A healthy adult turtle was captured, fitted with a transmitter under veterinary supervision and released along the north bank of the Brahmaputra, which flows along the northern part of the park.
