Maharashtra to launch Majhi Vasundhara 6.0 across 28,000 local bodies from April 2025

The Maharashtra government will launch Majhi Vasundhara Campaign 6.0 across 28,317 local self-government bodies from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, to strengthen environmental conservation efforts. The campaign, led by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, was announced by Minister Pankaja Munde. Focusing on the five elements – Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Sky – the initiative aims to promote climate awareness and sustainable living. A guidance toolkit has been prepared, with public feedback invited until July 15, 2025. Third-party assessments will score participating bodies, with AMRUT cities eligible for up to 15,125 points, non-AMRUT Urban Local Bodies 14,625, and gram panchayats 13,625. Results will be declared on June 5, 2026, and awards distributed to top performers. The campaign emphasises carbon reduction, GHG control, and eco-friendly lifestyles. All local bodies are urged to register and implement the campaign in mission mode.



India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran clinches women’s single ITF J200 Gladbeck title in Germany

In Tennis, India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran has clinched the women’s singles ITF J200 Gladbeck title in Germany. The 16-year-old defeated Switzerland’s Noelia Manta 6-2, 6-4 in the final. This triumph marks Maaya’s maiden ITF Junior title on European clay.

Earlier in the semifinals, she defeated Daphnee Mpetshi Perricard of France 6-2, 6-1. It is Maaya’s seventh ITF Junior title overall. Her earlier titles include victories at J100 and J300 events. The J signifies Junior, and the number indicates the tournament’s grade, with higher numbers generally representing higher levels of competition and more ranking points.



India scripts historic finish at U23 Asian Wrestling Championships with double team titles

India’s young wrestlers delivered a stellar performance on the final day of the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championships in Vung Tau, Vietnam, winning six medals in men’s freestyle. Five wrestlers, Nikhil, Sujeet, Jaideep, Chander Mohan, and Sachin, clinched gold. India also topped the team rankings in men’s freestyle and won the women’s freestyle team title, marking a historic finish at the continental event.

Indian women wrestlers won the team title at the Under-23 Asian Championship by winning a medal in each of the 10 categories, including four gold and five silver in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Priyanshi Prajapat in 50kg category, Reena in 55kg category, Shrishti in 68kg and Priya in 76kg category sealed the top podium places. Five Indian women wrestlers settled for runner-up finishes.



IGNOU Degree Not Required To Have Equivalence Certificate From State University

The Kerala High Court has recently held that insisting on equivalency certificate from Central Universities that are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the prospectus of the State Eligibility Test (SET) is ultra vires the UGC Act.

Justice D.K. Singh passed the judgment while considering a Writ Petition that challenged the decision taken by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology (2nd respondent) with respect to the petitioner's eligibility in the SET.

The petitioner is a Primary Teacher, who has been working since 2007. He got his graduation degree from the University of Calicut in Sociology and thereafter, Masters Degree in Gandhi & Peace Studies from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The 2nd respondent is responsible for conducting the SET.



India unveils logo and mascot for World Para Athletics Championships

India on Friday marked a significant milestone on the global sporting calendar with the official unveiling of the logo and mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, to be held in October 2025, along with the launch of the ‘100 Days to Go’ countdown.

The event was hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.

The newly revealed mascot, named Viraaj — a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis — is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India’s rich heritage, the spirit of para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city.



India’s core sector output grows 0.7% in May 2025

The output of eight core infrastructure sectors, which account for two-fifths of India’s industrial output, expanded by 0.7% annually in May, its slowest in nine months, according to the provisional data released on Friday by the commerce ministry.

This growth stood at 6.9% in May 2024, while April 2025 growth was revised upward from 0.5% to 1%.

The Index of Eight Core Industries measures the combined and individual output of key industries, which include coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity.



AP: “Floating Yoga’ remarkable achievement ahead of IYD

In a remarkable achievement ahead of International Yoga Day, Andhra Pradesh has secured a global recognition for its innovative “Floating Yoga” event conducted on the Krishna River in Vijayawada. Organised as part of the state’s YogAndhra 2025 campaign on 11th June, the event featured over a thousand yoga practitioners performing asanas on 200 water crafts including kayaks, jet skis, punts, sand boats and floating platforms. The Floating Yoga record stands as a testament to Andhra Pradesh’s creative approach in promoting wellness, cultural pride, and community engagement through yoga.



Gharial Species Conservation Programme launched

Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav launched the Gharial Species Conservation Programme by releasing Gharial hatchlings into the Gerua River at Katarniaghat in Bahraich today. On this occasion, the Union Minister said that forests and wildlife are the natural heritage of this earth. Union Minister added that scientific measures will have to be adopted to prevent human-wildlife conflict.

Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav also inspected the Gharial breeding centre located in Trans Gerua and reviewed the conservation work.



President Droupadi Murmu graces opening of Rashtrapati Tapovan, Rashtrapati Niketan for public visit in Dehradun

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday graced the opening of Rashtrapati Tapovan and Rashtrapati Niketan at Dehradun. She also inaugurated public amenities, including the Visitor Facilitation Centre, the Cafeteria, and the Souvenir Shop, and laid the foundation stone for Rashtrapati Udyan at Rashtrapati Niketan.

President Murmu had also inaugurated an amphitheater at Rashtrapati Niketan yesterday.

Rashtrapati Tapovan, situated on Rajpur Road in Dehradun, is a 19-acre Presidential Estate nestled in the Himalayan foothills, emphasizing spiritual retreat and ecological preservation. A dense forest patch rich in native vegetation, Tapovan hosts 117 plant species, 52 butterflies, 41 bird species, and 7 wild mammals, including some protected species. The area features natural bamboo groves and undisturbed woodland ecosystems, President's Secretariat said.



PM Modi leads the nation on 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at Visakhapatnam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that today yoga offers a pathway to peace amid growing stress, unrest, and instability in various parts of the world. Addressing the celebrations on 11th International Day of Yoga along the scenic coastline at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh,  the Prime Minister said Yoga is the pause button humanity needs to breathe, to balance, to become whole again. On the occasion, he made a special appeal to the global community urging to mark Yoga Day as the beginning of Yoga for Humanity 2.0, where Inner Peace becomes Global Policy. He emphasised that yoga should not remain merely a personal practice but evolve into a medium for global partnerships. He called upon every nation and every society to integrate yoga into their lifestyle and public policy. PM Modi envisioned a collective effort to advance a peaceful, balanced, and sustainable world saying Yoga should guide the world from conflict to cooperation, and from stress to solutions.
