The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Monday approved the new startup and data centre policies with an aim to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and investment in the state besides creating new employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth.

The decision to give the go-ahead to the Uttar Pradesh Startup Policy-2026 and the Uttar Pradesh Data Centre Policy-2026 was given in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The earlier data centre policy expired on January 27 this year.

The government said the policy will help establish the state as a leading centre for innovation and entrepreneurship while playing a significant role in achieving its goal of the 1-trillion dollar economy.

The Indian Navy will commission its sixth Project 17A indigenous stealth frigate, Mahendragiri (F38), at Visakhapatnam on Saturday, 11 July.

The Defence Ministry said the stealth frigate has been designed in-house by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai. The ship has been named after the majestic Mahendragiri mountain range in the Eastern Ghats.

The Ministry said the warship embodies resilience, strength and unwavering resolve, and is poised to forge a distinguished legacy while adding another proud chapter to India’s maritime history.

The frigate is powered by a modern Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion system, enabling high-speed operations with exceptional endurance across the full spectrum of maritime missions. With over 75 per cent indigenous content, Mahendragiri exemplifies the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The Central government on Monday appointed new chiefs of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the appointments of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for these posts.

As per an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Alok Kumar Mittal, a 1993-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Director General, BPR&D. He will hold the post from the date of assuming charge until June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to several food business operators (FBOs) for misleading claims and labelling violations.

The food regulator has directed these FBOs, who violated the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2026, to strictly comply with the established regulations and to take corrective measures.

Among the brands that have been asked to submit an explanation within seven days as to why action should not be initiated under the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006, and the Rules and Regulations are Heritage Foods Limited ‘Fresh Paneer,’ Dia Foods ‘La Casa Vegan Hazelnut Chocolate spread,’ and Cipzer Natraceuticals ‘Juice capsules.’

The FSSAI said that the complaint against Heritage Foods Limited is that they have used a misleading claim, "fresh paneer," which does not satisfy the conditions stipulated under Schedule V for the use of the term "fresh."

Ahead of the upcoming UP Assembly polls, the Yogi Adityanath cabinet renamed Jalalabad city in Shahjahanpur district as Parashurampuri.

The proposal got the cabinet approval on Monday, with the Jalalabad Nagar Palika Parishad also becoming the Parashurampuri Nagar Palika Parishad.

While briefing the media persons, State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, who himself hails from Shahjahanpur and has been representing the Shahjahanpur assembly segment for the last nine consecutive terms, said that the renaming of Jalalabad is a demand that has been pending for years.

Khanna said that the city was renamed Parashurampuri as it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Parashuram, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Indonesia’s highest civilian honour, the Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia, by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a ceremonial event at Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

The honour recognises Prime Minister Modi’s contribution to strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and deepening the historic friendship between the two countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Istana Merdeka, where he and President Prabowo Subianto were warmly received by children waving the national flags of India and Indonesia.

Gujarat is set to construct two air-filled rubber dams on the Heran River in Chhota Udepur district and the Ambika River in Tapi district, in a combined project worth over ₹160 crore. The initiative marks the state’s first use of South Korean technology-based rubber dam systems, aimed at improving irrigation reliability, groundwater recharge and flood control in water-stressed regions.

The choice of rubber dams over conventional check dams or gated structures is driven largely by site conditions. Officials noted that the regions have flat terrain and low riverbanks, where traditional structures are less effective in storing water and managing seasonal flows. The inflatable design allows water to be stored during dry periods and quickly released during heavy monsoons, help reduce flooding, erosion and long-term silt buildup.

In a significant milestone in defence and strategic cooperation between India and Indonesia, the two countries on Tuesday signed landmark agreements for the supply of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and ASTRA beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles.

The deal was announced following high-level bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Merdeka in Jakarta.

The missile deals are part of a series of strategic agreements aimed at deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two maritime neighbours.

Padma Shri awardee Girish Bharadwaj, widely known as the 'Bridge Man of India' for building low-cost suspension bridges in remote villages, died at a private hospital in Sullia early on Tuesday after a brief illness, family sources said.

He was 76.

A mechanical engineer from Sullia in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, Bharadwaj devoted over three decades to connecting isolated rural communities by constructing more than 140 suspension footbridges across the country, many in inaccessible regions.

His innovative, low-cost bridge designs transformed the lives of thousands by providing year-round access to schools, hospitals and markets.

Bharadwaj built his first suspension bridge in 1989 across the Payaswini River. His work later expanded across Karnataka, Kerala and several other states, earning him the title "Bridge Man of India".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-pertrochemical complex at Pachpadra in Rajasthan's Balotra district, marking a landmark achievement in the country's energy and petrochemical sector.

Developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Government of Rajasthan, the 9 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) Greenfield Refinery-cum-Petrochemical Complex has been established with an investment of over Rs 79,450 crore.

The state-of-the-art complex integrates refining and petrochemical production, with a petrochemical capacity of 2.4 MMTPA. The refinery features a high Nelson Complexity Index of 17.0 and petrochemical yields exceeding 26%, aligning with global benchmarks for efficiency and sustainability.
