Frank Noronha Retires as PIB Chief, Sitanshu Kar Takes Over
Frank Noronha, the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), retired on Monday. He was succeeded by senior IIS officer Sitanshu Kar on Tuesday.
Kar, who was serving as the All India Radio's News Services Division (NSD) director general, was transferred in March as the director general of the PIB, New Delhi, so as to familiarise himself, before taking charge of the bureau on 1 May 2018, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had said earlier.

Chennai police to expand the use of FACETAGR, a facial recognition technology to curb inter-state robbers
While facial recognition technology has been creating ripples in the tech industry in smartphones or through surveillance, the Chennai police have decided to expand the use of its FACETAGR app to other Southern states as well. This step will help them to curb the movement of inter-state robbers.
According to The Hindu report, Puducherry's Crime Record Bureau has provided the criminal data. Other states which are yet to provide the details include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka. Currently, they have data on 67,000 criminals. This app would help the police departments in finding the details of a person who belongs to a different State.

Paytm Tap Card Launched, Allows Offline Payments in Less Than a Second
Paytm has launched a new payment mode, Tap Card, that it is promoting as India's first "truly offline payments solution."
It is a card that uses NFC to transfer money on company-authorised Point of Sale (PoS) terminals, and is aimed at non-Internet users.
The Paytm Tap Card uses enables safe and convenient digital payments with the help of NFC, completely offline at PAYTM -issued PoS terminals in under a second, the company says. To make payments, users can add money from their Paytm account by scanning the QR code on the Tap Card and by authenticating it at any of the add value machines (AVM). It also addresses any network-related concerns at the consumers' or merchants' end.
