Piyush Goyal to attend 9th RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting in Thailand
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will attend the 9th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, RCEP Intersessional Ministerial meeting beginning tomorrow at Bangkok in Thailand. This will be the last Ministerial before the 3rd Leaders Summit to be held on 4th of next month in Bangkok.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the Summit. The 9th Intersessional Ministerial Meeting comes at a crucial stage where the RCEP is scheduled to be announced as concluded in November this year.
The 28th round of negotiations for RCEP at the expert level was concluded at Da Nang in Vietnam last month. In this round of negotiations meeting of the Trade Negotiating Committee was held in which senior officials participated in negotiations regarding market access on Trade in Goods, Trade in Services and Investment as well as on other areas like Rules of Origin, Intellectual Property and Electronic Commerce.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan along with several State Health Ministers today launched Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan, SUMAN, initiative in New Delhi. The initiative was launched during the 13th Conference of Central Council of Health and Family Welfare.
The initiative aims at assuring dignified, respectful and quality health care at no cost and zero tolerance for denial of services for every woman and newborn visiting the public health facility in order to end all preventable maternal and newborn deaths. It also provides a positive birth experience to both mother and infant.
Addressing the Conference, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, government is committed to achieve the target of reducing the maternal mortality and child mortality.
Olga Tokarczuk and Peter Handke win Nobel Prize for Literature for 2018 and 2019
Polish author Olga Tokarczuk and Austria's Peter Handke have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Two winners were named - one for 2019 and one for 2018 - because the prize was not awarded last year.
The Swedish Academy, which oversees the prestigious award, suspended it in 2018 after a sexual assault scandal.
Tokarczuk, who also won the Man Booker International Prize last year, was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize, with this year's Nobel going to Handke.
Kerala Bank gets RBI approval, to begin services from November 1
The Reserve Bank of India has accorded approval to the Kerala government to set up the Kerala Bank, State Minister for Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran said on Wednesday.
The Kerala Bank will begin its services from November 1 to coincide with the Kerala Piravi Day. It will be set up by merging all 13 District Cooperative Bank (DCB) with the Kerala State Cooperative Bank (KSCB).
