Rohit Sharma shatters Don Bradman's 71-year-old record with double century in Ranchi Test
Indian opener Rohit Sharma has revived his Test career with some thunderous batting display in the ongoing three-match Test series against South Africa. Not only did Rohit kickstart his Test career as an opener with two centuries in the first Test in Visakhapatnam, but the Hitman also hammered a stupendous double century in the first innings of Ranchi Test against the Proteas. Rohit has been on a record-breaking spree in the whites and carried the momentum on Sunday where the experienced opener broke former Australian cricketer Sir Donald Bradman’s record of highest average in Test cricket on home soil.
Rohit, who resumed his innings on Day 2 after remaining unbeaten on the opening day of Ranchi Test, went on to smash 212 runs off 255 deliveries laced with 28 boundaries and six maximums. With his double ton, Rohit’s Test average in India rose to 99.84 surpassing the 71-year-old record previously held by Bradman in Australia. A minimum of ten innings has been kept as the benchmark for the record. Rohit last nine Test scores in India are 82*, 51*, 102*, 65, 50*, 176, 127, 14 and 212.

Kuhoo Garg-Dhruv Rawat pair wins Egypt International mixed doubles title
NEW DELHI: Kuhoo Garg and Dhruv Rawat put up a brilliant effort to win the mixed doubles title at the Egypt International 2019 in Cairo on Sunday.
The unseeded Garg and Rawat held their nerves for a tight 21-16, 22-20 victory over the third seeds Utkarsh Arora and Karishma Wadkar in an all-Indian final.
Garg and Rawat showed excellent understanding as they had accounted for the second seeds Ahmed Salah and Hadia Hosny 21-16 21-15 of Egypt in the second round and then followed it up with a comeback 16-21 21-16 21-9 win over fourth seeds Koceila Mammeri and Linda Mazri of Algeria in the semi-finals.
Garg, however, failed to have double delight as she later went down in the women's doubles final with Sanyogita Ghorpade.
The two gave their all before bowing out narrowly, 16-21 21-19 19-21 to third seeds Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker.
Meanwhile, at the Dubai International Challenge, Rituparna Das succumbed to a 21-23, 17-21 defeat in 36 minutes to Japan's World No.208 Mako Urushizaki.
Alicia Alonso: Legendary ballet dancer dies aged 98
Alonso is considered one of the greatest 20th Century ballerinas. She began to lose her sight at 19, relying on only the stage lights to guide her.
After the 1959 revolution, she helped found the National Ballet of Cuba with then leader Fidel Castro.
"Alicia Alonso has gone and left an enormous void but unbeatable legacy," President Miguel Diaz-Canel said.
"She positioned Cuba at the altar of the best of dance worldwide. Thank you Alicia for your immortal work," he added.
Born Alicia Ernestina de la Caridad Martínez del Hoyo on 21 December 1921, she first appeared on stage in 1931. She fell in love with ballet.
Former IMF chief Christine Lagarde replaces Mario Draghi as head of European Central Bank
European Union leaders confirmed on Friday the appointment of Christine Lagarde as the new chief of the European Central Bank, replacing Mario Draghi from November 1.
Lagarde's confirmation for a non-renewable term of eight years comes after EU leaders nominated her for the position on July 2.

Addressing the 11th Nuclear Energy Conclave in New Delhi today, Dr. Singh emphasized the need to use of modern information technology and social media tools to educate masses about nuclear energy. He said, there is no medical evidence to prove that nuclear plants have caused any health hazard and Indian plants are very well protected as utmost precautions have been taken during their establishment.
Renowned painter Kalidas Karmakar dies in Dhaka
Born on January 10, 1946, in Faridpur district, he completed his graduation from the Government College of Fine Arts and Crafts in Kolkata in 1969.
An icon of modern art in Bangladesh, Kalidas was awarded Shilpakala Padak in 2016 and the Ekushey Padak in 2018 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to fine arts.
Solo exhibitions of his works were held in Dhaka and many countries, including the US, India, Japan, Iran, and Hong Kong. Apart from painting he was also known for his installation work in which he used diverse materials like wood, pottery, brass, utensils and others.
Kalidas was prolific in using new mediums and style for his art work while maintaining his signature style. He called his work alluvial art meaning the art of the delta land which gave expression to the precarious nature of the alluvial land and its people, their struggles and hopes.
Karmakar also experimented with performance art which combined artist's body as an object of art along with his paintings.
Interpol to Hold General Assembly in India in 2022
India will host the 91st Interpol General Assembly in 2022 after a proposal received the overwhelming support of member countries at this year’s congregation at Santinago in Chile. The International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) had hosted the general assembly, where representatives of all member countries converge, in India in 1997.
The general assembly of Interpol is an annual exercise hosted by member countries. All major decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods and finances are deliberated and discussed by representatives.
Anup Kumar Singh appointed as Director-General of NSG
Senior IPS officer of Gujarat cadre Anup Kumar Singh has been appointed as Director-General of the National Security Guard (NSG). The appointment of Mr Singh, who is a 1985-batch IPS officer, was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. His appointment will be from the date of joining the post and up to 30th of September, 2020.
