1 CBSE partners with Facebook for curriculum on digital safety, augmented reality

According to CBSE officials, the comprehensive curriculum is aimed at ensuring online well-being of students and preparing them for the future of work.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Facebook have partnered to launch curriculum on digital safety and online well-being and Augmented Reality for students and educators, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced on Sunday.

"I congratulate CBSE and Facebook on its partnership to introduce certified programmes in Augmented Reality for teachers and Digital Safety and online-wellbeing for students. I encourage the teachers and students to apply for the programmes commencing on July 6," Mr. Nishank wrote on Twitter.

2 PM Modi delivers virtual address on Asadha Poornima; President Kovind inaugurates the event

President Ram Nath Kovind today inaugurated the celebrations organized by International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) on the occasion of Asadha Poornima today. The IBC is celebrating Asadha Poornima, as Dharma Chakra Day. This day commemorates Buddha's First Sermon to his first five ascetic disciples at the Deer Park, Rsipatana in the present day Sarnath near Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

On the occasion, in his video address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the day is also known as Guru Purnima and it's a day to remember our Gurus, who gave us knowledge. Mr Modi said, the eight-fold path of Lord Buddha shows the way towards the well-being of many societies and nations. He said, It highlights the importance of compassion and kindness. He said, the teachings of Lord Buddha celebrate simplicity both in thought and action.

The Prime Minister said, Buddhism teaches respect for people, the poor, women and respect for peace and non-violence. He said, therefore, the teachings of Buddhism are the means to a sustainable planet.

3 Govt postpones JEE, NEET exams in view of COVID-19

Union Government has postponed medical and engineering entrance examinations NEET and JEE in view of COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main examination will be held from 1st to 6th September this year while JEE advanced exam on 27th of September.

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be held on 13th of September. In a tweet, Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said, the decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of students and to ensure quality education.

The decision was taken following recommendations of an Expert Committee set up by the government to review the feasibility of conducting the exams in July. The panel recommended to postpone the examinations.

4 SAP Launches Global Bharat Programme To Make MSMEs Globally Competitive

New Delhi, June 29: Tech giant SAP India on Monday announced the launch of the Global Bharat programme to equip Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country with digital technologies, and help them become globally more competitive.

The programme, which has been developed in association with Nasscom Foundation, United Nations Development Programme and Pratham InfoTech Foundation, includes three initiatives that focus on enabling greater access to the global marketplace, skill development, and the use of technology tools to drive business for MSMEs.

Speaking about the programme, SAP Indian Subcontinent President and Managing Director Deb Deep Sengupta, said the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the economy and businesses has been felt majorly by MSMEs across the country.

5 France's Macron picks Jean Castex as PM after Philippe resigns

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has tendered his resignation after heading President Emmanuel Macron's government for three years.

The president swiftly named centre-right mayor Jean Castex to lead a new team of ministers after a reshuffle.

Although Mr Philippe was considered more popular than the president, the ruling party had poor local election results at the weekend.

President Macron promised a "new path" in an interview published on Friday.

Mr Philippe met the president early in the morning and they agreed the government would resign.

A reshuffle has been expected for some time, and it is common practice for a French president to replace a prime minister during the five-year term in office known as the "quinquennat".

7 Former West Indies Cricketer Everton Weekes, Last Of Famous Three Ws, Passes Away: TRIBUTES

The last of the famous three "Ws", Everton Weekes has passed away. The West Indies cricketing great was 95 years old. Weekes played alongside Frank Worrell and Clyde Walcott, with all three of them making their Test debuts in 1948.

Worrell died in 1967, and Walcott in 2006.

After his playing career, he became a respected coach, analyst, team manager, match referee for ICC and a ICC Hall of Fame member.

Weekes made his Test debut at the age of 22 Vs England. His final fixture was against Pakistan in Trinidad a decade later.

The news of his death shook the cricket fraternity, with many pouring in their condolences.

The ICC in its obituary wrote, "One of the all-time greats of the game, Sir Everton Weekes had a short international career, but it was filled with a number of remarkable feats."

Renowned Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan died early on Friday morning due to cardiac arrest. She was 71.

The three-time National Award winner, who had choreographed some of the most memorable songs in Hindi cinema, was not keeping well for some time.

She was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra last Saturday after she complained of breathing issues. The mandatory COVID-19 test done at the hospital showed a negative result.

9 Ravindra Jadeja rated India’s most valuable Test player in 21st century by Wisden

Flamboyant all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named as India’s most valuable Test player in the 21st century by the Wisden magazine. With an MVP rating of 97.3, the 31-year-old Jadeja was also rated as the second-most valuable Test player worldwide, behind Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan.

“It has been a dream to play for India and above that when you are rewarded for being the most valuable player, you feel even more blessed,” Jadeja said. “Would want to thank all my fans, team-mates, coaches and support staff for their unconditional love and support.”

Jadeja has played in 49 Tests since making his debut in 2012, scoring 1,869 runs with one century and 14 fifties to his name. He has picked up 213 Test wickets.
