1 India beat Pakistan to lift Diplomat Cup Cricket Championship

The team of the Indian Consulate in Dubai on Saturday defeated the team of the Pakistan Consulate to lift the Diplomat Cup Cricket Championship of 2020.

Consul General Vipul alongwith the other family members of the Indian Consulate was present on the ground to cheer the team.

The Championship was organized by Skyline University College in Sharjah. Consulates of eight countries participated in the tournament.

The aim of the Diplomat Cup Cricket Championship is to bring together officials and employees of different Consulates based in UAE.

With the Indian Consulate in Dubai as the permanent patron, the championship entered its fourth edition this year.

2 ISRO successfully completes three orbit raising manoeuvres of GSAT-30

ISRO has successfully completed the three orbit-raising manoeuvres of communication satellite GSAT-30 and succeeded in placing it in an orbit close to its operational orbit.

The space agency informed yesterday that as planned all manoeuvers were completed successfully using the satellite's propulsion system.

The cumulative duration of operation of the propulsion system for these manuoeuvres was 2 hours 29 minutes. It said, satellite solar panels and antennas have been deployed and the satellite is placed in an orbit with a perigee of 35, 826 km and an apogee of 35,913 km with an inclination of 0.11 deg which is very close to its operational orbit.

3 PM Modi, Nepal PM Oli to jointly inaugrate Integrated Check Post Biratnagar today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepali counterpart K P Sharma Oli will inaugurate the Integrated Check Post (ICP) Biratnagar today. The two Prime Ministers will jointly inaugurate the project through video conferencing at 11 A.M. India and Nepal share over 1,850 kilometre- long border which is characterized by a unique and long tradition of free movement of people. Jogbani-Biratnagar international trade point is one of the important trade points between the two countries.

ICP Biratnagar has been built on 260 acres of land at a cost of around 140 crore rupees. It has the facilities for immigration clearance of foreign passengers, export and import cargo handling. It is equipped with all modern facilities and is designed to handle around 500 trucks per day. Adequate facilities for quarantine, amenities for drivers, passengers and security personnel have also been created, along with a waste water treatment plant.

4 Khelo India: More than 18 gold medals to be decided in swimming and weightlifting

In Khelo India youth Games at Guwahati, Boxing, Badminton, Tennis, Football and Hockey final match of different age categories will be played today.

More than 18 gold will also be decided in swimming and weightlifting. Yesterday, Maharashtra crossed the two hundred mark of overall medals tally. They have 204 medals with 63 gold. Haryana is at second spot and Delhi on the third position.

5 Centre appoints Nripendra Misra as chairman of NMML executive council
Former principal secretary to the Prime Minister, Nripendra Misra, has been appointed chairperson of the executive council of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML).

According to a government order, the Executive Council of the NMML has been reconstituted and it will be now chaired by Mr Misra. 

Mr Misra is a 1967-batch retired IAS officer. 

Dr A Surya Prakash, chairperson of the Prasar Bharati board, will be the council's vice-chairperson.

6 Ratchanok Intanon lifts Indonesia Masters 2020 title
Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon lifted the Indonesia Badminton Masters 2020 women's singles title after defeating Carolina Marin in the summit clash on Sunday.


Intanon defeated Marin 21-19, 11-21, 21-18 in one hour and twenty minutes long match. The clash went into three-games and both the shuttlers tried their 100 per cent to turn things in their favour. Despite losing the first game, the Spanish shuttler made a comeback in the second game and claimed the game by 21-11. Intanon won the match by claiming the third game by 21-18.

7 Prakash Javadekar inaugurates ELECRAMA 2020, a flagship showcase of electrical industry in India
Union Minister for Heavy Industries Prakash Javadekar today asked the power industry to focus on the quality of electrical equipment.


He said, fire incidents in many cases are caused by the poor quality of equipment and faulty wiring.

He urged the industry to become a part of the production chain and not just a supplier of spare parts.

Mr. Javadekar was inaugurating ELECRAMA 2020, the flagship showcase of the Indian electrical industry, in Greater Noida. He said, the electrical industry is a platform to facilitate the world to connect with India in technology and innovation.

8 Conference on Census 2021 held in New Delhi

A Conference of the Chief Secretaries and Administrator State and Union Territories on Census 2021 and updating of National Population Register, NPR was held in New Delhi today.

Inaugurating it, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai laid emphasis on the need of conducting Census 2021 and the role of the States in doing the same.

He also said that the data collected in the Census helps us in framing policies for the welfare of the people of the country. Mr Rai also inaugurated the Official Mascot for Census 2021.

Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla remarked on the vastness of this exercise and involvement of the State functionaries.

Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Dr Vivek Joshi made a brief presentation on the Strategy for Census 2021.

9 Former India all-rounder Bapu Nadkarni passes away at 86

Former India all-rounder Rameshchandra Gangaram ‘Bapu’ Nadkarni passed away on Friday. The 86-year-old breathed his last at his daughter’s residence in Mumbai on Friday.

Nadkarni’s son-in-law confirmed news agency PTI that the former cricketer passed away due to old-age problems. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

After making his international debut in December 1955, Nadkarni went on to feature in 41 Tests, accumulating 1414 runs while batting at an average of 25.70.

It was his clinical economy with the ball that earned him several plaudits. In the 41 Tests, the slow-left arm orthodox bowler went on to scalp 88 wickets with 6/43 being his best bowling figures.

10 Russia to deliver S-400 air defence systems to India by 2025

Russia said it has started production of S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile systems for India, and all five units will be delivered by 2025. Russian Deputy Chief of Mission Roman Babushkin also said that a contract will be finalised shortly for joint production of Kamov lightweight multi-role military helicopters for India. He was addressing a joint press conference with Russian Ambassador Nikolai Kudashev in New Delhi yesterday. Babushkin said that the Indian Armed forces will receive the first batch of 5,000 Kalashnikov rifles this year as well. These will be produced in India under a joint venture.

Asserting that the S-400 air defence missile systems are among best in the world, the diplomat said they will significantly bolster India's air defence mechanism.

In October 2018, India signed a USD 5 billion deal to buy the air defence missile systems.
