1 Haryana govt announces Rs six crore to those winning gold medals at Olympics

Haryana government has decided to give 6 crore rupees to players of the state that bag gold medals at the Olympic Games. State Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said, 3 crore rupees will be given to those winning gold medals at Asian Games and 1.5 crore rupees to the winners of yellow metal at Commonwealth Games.

An amount of 15 lakh rupees will be given to each player participating in the Olympic Games so that the players can make the state, as well as the country, proud. Mr Khattar said, the move is aimed at promoting sports in the state and encouraging youths to excel in the field. He said, the state government will also provide employment to the sportspersons in addition to the cash incentive. The Chief Minister was addressing the concluding function of the four-day 46th Junior National Kabaddi Competition at Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak yesterday.

2 Koneru Humpy wins Cairns cup chess tournament

Grand master Koneru Humpy has won the Cairns cup chess tournament. In the 9th and final round of the tournament at St. Louis, USA, she drew with fellow grand master Drona Valli Harika.

Humpy ended up with 6 points ahead of the reigning world champion Zu Wezun who finished with 5.5 points. Drona Valli Harika finished 5th with 4.5  points.

3 Arvind Kejriwal sworn in as Chief Minister of Delhi for third time

Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal today took oath as Chief Minister of Delhi for the third consecutive time.

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal administered the oath of office and secrecy to Kejriwal and six Cabinet Ministers at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital. 

Mr. Kejriwal has retained all the Cabinet Ministers who were part of his last government. They are Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain and Rajendra Gautam.  

Mr. Kejriwal's first term lasted only for 49 days and completed the full tenure in the second term. The Aam Aadmi Party swept the Delhi assembly polls held last week, bagging 62 out of 70 seats.

4 PM Modi to inaugurate UN Conference on Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals at Gandhinagar today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 13th Conference of Parties (COP) of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) at Gandhinagar in Gujarat today. The theme of the Conference is "Migratory species connect the planet and we welcome them home."

The CMS COP 13 logo is inspired by ‘Kolam’, a traditional art form from southern India. In the logo, Kolam art form is used to depict key migratory species in India like Amur falcon, humpback whale and marine turtles. As the host, India will be designated the President for the next three years. India is a signatory to the Convention on Conservation of Migratory wild Animals since 1983.

5 India, Portugal exchange seven documents in various fields

India and Portugal today exchanged seven documents in various fields including maritime transport , audio/visual cooperation cooperation in the field of industrial and intellectual property rights.

The documents were exchanged in the presence of  Prime Minister NarendraModi and visiting Portugal president following delegation level talks between the two leaders in New Delhi. The 7 documents which were exchanged include:

1 - MoU for Cooperation in development of national maritime Museum Heritage complex at Lothel in Gujarat

2 -- MoU for cooperation in the field of industrial and intellectual property rights

3 -- agreement on audio/visual Co-production

4 -- MoU on Diplomatic training and exchange of information

5 - Cooperation agreement in field of Maritime Transport and Port Development

6 - Joint Declaration on India and Portugal Mobility Partnership

7 -- MoU between Start-up Portugal and Invest India for collaboration on Start-ups.

6 Nation remembers martyrs of Pulwama terror attack on its first anniversary

Nation remembers martyrs of gruesome Pulwama terror attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans on its first anniversary.

As nation mourns and honours the supreme sacrifice of our soldiers, the CRPF inaugurated a memorial to respect and commemorate memories of jawans who had to pay the ultimate price.

The memorial has been erected at CRPF's Lethpora camp near the site where the terror attack took place.

The soil collected by Maharashtra's Umesh Gopinath Jadhav from the houses and cremation grounds of the 40 martyrs was placed at the memorial.

Umesh Gopinath Jadhav was the special guest at the wreath-laying ceremony. He took a 61,000 km long journey across India to meet families of the martyred jawans.

On February 14, 2019, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist rammed explosive-filled vehicle on a bus ferrying CRPF jawans. The bus was part of the CRPF convoy.

7 Narayana Murthy's son-in-law appointed as UK's new Finance Minister

Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's son-in-law, Rishi Sunak has been appointed as UK's Finance Minister. He replaced Pakistani Chancellor Sajid Javid. After the reshuffle yesterday, three Indian origin Members of Parliament are now a part of Britain's most diverse cabinet led by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. 

The 47-year-old Priti Patel has been appointed as the Home Minister. The 51-year-old Alok Sharma has been appointed as the Business Secretary in the British Cabinet. Sharma was elevated to the role of the secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy. 

Along with these three, 15 Indian-origin MPs are among 65 non-whites elected to the new 650-member House of Commons, reflecting 10 percent of its strength.

8 Piyush Goyal inaugurates first phase of East-West Metro corridor in Kolkata

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the first phase of East-West Metro in Kolkata yesterday evening.

The passengers services in this 5.8 Kilometers stretch between Salt Lake's Sector five and Salt Lake Stadium will begin today. Mr Goyal announced that the remaining 10.6 Kilometers starches of East-West Metro will be completed by December 2021. 

Mr Goyal also launched and dedicated several other Railway projects for West Bengal from the same venue.
More than 2,400 crore rupees have been spent for first phase of East-West Metro. On completion, it will connect two old cities Kolkata and Howrah.

It will be Country's first underwater train lines where trains will play in tunnels under river Hooghly.

9 Prez Kovind presents President's Colour to Indian Navy's INS Shivaji

President Ram Nath Kovind has lauded the remarkable contribution made by Indian Navy and INS Shivaji to the nation. He was speaking after presenting President's Colour to Indian Navy's INS Shivaji at Lonavala today on the occasion of Platinum Jubilee of this premier training establishment. The President’s Colour is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon any military unit.
Earlier, the President was given a guard of honour followed by an impressive ceremonial parade comprising 130 officers and 630 sailors of the Indian Navy. INS Shivaji is commemorating 75 years of its glorious service to the Indian Navy this month. The Platinum Jubilee year celebrations started from 15th February last year.

The motto of this establishment is Karmasu Kaushalam which translates to imbibing the concept of Skill at Work in all facets of human endeavour. The establishment has rendered 75 years of glorious service to the nation by imparting training in engineering discipline to personnel of Indian Navy, Coast Guard, other sister services and friendly foreign Countries. 10 MWC 2020: Smartphone showcase cancelled over coronavirus fears

The world's largest mobile phone showcase, Mobile World Congress (MWC), has been cancelled over coronavirus concerns, organisers have confirmed.

The GSM Association (GSMA) said it had become "impossible" for the event to go ahead as planned in Barcelona.

BT, Facebook, LG, Nokia, Sony and Vodafone were among the high-profile exhibitors to have pulled out of the annual event, citing coronavirus fears.

But Spain's health minister, Salvador Illa, urged people to remain calm.

Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Illa said people should "trust in the Spanish health system" and "take decisions based on scientific evidence".

MWC was due to be held in Barcelona on 24-27 February. More than 100,000 people usually attend the annual event, about 6,000 of whom travel from China.
