1 First Khelo India University Games concludes in Bhubaneswar; Panjab University, Chandigarh tops medals tally

The Khelo India University Games concluded in Bhubaneswar, Odisha last night. Panjab University, Chandigarh took home the champions trophy-winning 46 medals including 17 gold, 19 silver, and 10 bronze.

Savitribai Phule Pune University claimed the second position and Punjabi University, Patiala declared as the second runners up. Panjab University won a total of 46 medals while Savitribai Phule Pune University won 37 medals including 17 gold, 11 silver, and 9 bronze medals.

Punjabi University, Patiala won 33 medals including 13 gold, 6 silver, and 14 bronze medals. A total of 113 universities took part in the games.

2 PM says ensuring justice & benefits of welfare schemes to every section of society is govt's priority

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that ensuring justice and benefits of welfare schemes to every section of society is his government's priority.

Addressing a public meeting at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh today, Mr Modi said, this the base of sabka saath, sabka vikas and sabka vishwas.

Prime Minister said, his government is doing a lot of work for making people's life easy and comfortable. Mr Modi, distributed 27 thousand assistive aids and devices to senior citizens and Divyangjans at Prayagraj.

Mr. Modi said that during last 5 years, 9 thousand camps for Divyangs have been organised and appliances worth 900 crores were distributed.

4 PM to launch 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations; also to lay foundation stone for Bundelkhand Expressway

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch 10 thousand Farmer Producer Organizations, FPOs all over the country from Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh today.

These FPOs will help in collectivization of small, marginal and landless farmers to give them  strength to deal with issues like lack of access to technology, quality seed, fertilizers and pesticides including requisite finances.


Talking to reporters at a function in New Delhi yesterday, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, these FPOs will make a revolutionary change in the life of farmers.

Mr Tomar said that the Prime Minister will also hand over Kisan Credit Cards to farmers from different states at the event.

5 Film editor Sreekar Prasad enters the limca book of records

Veteran editor Sreekar Prasad has entered the Limca Book of Records for ‘films edited in most number of languages’. He has edited films in 17 languages, namely Tamil, English, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, Nepali, Marathi, Sinhalese, Karbi, Mishing, Bodo, and Pangchenpa. Sreekar shared the news on Twitter with a picture of the acknowledgment certificate from the Limca Records.

One of the most acclaimed editors of the country, Sreekar Prasad holds eight National Awards including a Special Jury Award. A frequent of several top directors including Mani Ratnam, some of his recent Indian releases include Darbar, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Saaho, Super 30, To Let, and Prathi Poovankozhi. Sreekar is also in charge of the cuts for big films such as Indian 2, RRR, and Ponniyin Selvan.

7 Home Minister chairs 24th Eastern Zonal Council meeting in Bhubaneswar

The 24th Eastern Zonal Council meeting under the chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah is underway at the Lokseva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are participating in the meeting while Finance Minister of Jharkhand Rameswar Oram is attending in the place of Chief Minister Hemanta Soren.

The meeting has discussed several issues including inter-state water issues, power transmission lines, royalty on and operationalization of coals mines, land and forest clearance of rail projects, investigation of heinous offences, cattle smuggling across country’s borders, lack of telecom and banking infrastructure in remote areas, petroleum projects, sharing pattern on centrally collected revenues etc.

8 CBSE postpones Class 10, 12 exams in violence-hit North-East Delhi

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed Class X and Class XII exams scheduled for today and tomorrow in violence-hit North-East district of Delhi.

In a statement, CBSE said, examinations in the remaining parts of the national capital will be conducted as per the schedule. 

It said, the next date of exam for the affected students will be notified soon.  All examinations in all the centres in the city will be held as per the schedule from 2nd March onwards.

The board also announced that it will conduct fresh exams for the students who have not been able to appear for the papers in other parts of the national capital due to the violence in North East Delhi.

It has  asked school principals to send the details of the students who failed to appear for exams due to the prevailing situation in the city.

9 National Science Day being celebrated today

National Science Day  is being celebrated today.  It is celebrated every year to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect.

On this day, Sir CV Raman had announced the discovery of the Raman Effect for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.

Women in science is the focal theme of this year's  National Science Day. This theme has been chosen for the purpose of increasing public appreciation of the scientific issues involved.  

On this occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind will present  awards for science communication as well as for women scientists.

A total of 21 awards will be given which will include National Science and Technology and Communication Awards, Augmenting Writing Skills For Articulating Research  awards and  National Award For Young Woman Showing Excellence Through Application Of Technology For Societal Benefits.

10 KIUG 2020: Savitribai Phule Pune University consolidates its position at top; claims 3 gold medals in Weightlifting, Wrestling

Savitribai Phule Pune University consolidated their position at the top by claiming three gold medals at the Khelo India University Games in Odisha yesterday.

Mahesh Datta Asawale and Prajkta Ravindra Khalkar won gold in weightlifting competition, while Jyotiba Bajrang Atkale bagged a yellow metal in wrestling for the Pune varsity.

While Panjab University (Chandigarh) in on the second position, Jain University (Bengaluru) is at the third place with eight gold medals each.

Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak won two gold medals in wrestling yesterday. While Vishal Kaliraman clinched the gold medal in the men’s 70 kg freestyle, Ajay won the yellow metal in men’s 92 kg freestyle wrestling.
