Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness at the passing away of noted hockey player Charanjit Singh. In a tweet,  Mr Modi said he played a key role in the successes of the Indian hockey team, most notably in the Rome and Tokyo Olympics in the 1960’s. He extended his condolences to his family and friends. 

Drawing on his own memories and impression of India, celebrated author Ruskin Bond in his latest book, "A Little Book of India: Celebrating 75 years of Independence", pays homage to the country that has been his home for 84 years.

The book, an amalgamation of the "physical and spiritual" attributes of India, promises to take readers on a journey filled with nostalgia and devotions.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said the State Government is establishing a military school in the name of Sangolli Rayanna at a cost of Rs 180 crore. 

After garlanding a statue of Rayanna on his Remembrance Day, the CM said the State Government has already released Rs 55 crore for the purpose and the construction work of the school will be completed this year. Discussions are on with the Defence Ministry to manage the school and to convert it into a military school. Hostel and all the required facilities are coming up on 100 acres of land, the CM said.

Friendship Hospital, in the southwestern town of Satkhira in Bangladesh has been adjudged the most transformative building of the world for the year 2021 by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The 80 bed community hospital designed by the Bangladeshi architect Kasef Chowdhury is designed to ‘work with and withstand the climate change effects of rising sea water in the adjoining area’, said the RIBA in an announcement.

The Friendship Hospital, Satkhira was chosen from a shortlist of three exceptional new buildings by the Grand Jury, chaired by world-renowned multi-disciplinary French architect Odile Decq.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday launched the revamped Central Government Health Scheme CGHS website and mobile app. The website is

and the mobile app is called “MyCGHS”. Mr Mandaviya said that the website has several d features which shall hugely benefit more than 40 lakh beneficiaries with real-time information from the convenience of their homes.

Health ministry has listed various features of the upgraded website. The site has been made Bilingual with Hindi and English with provision to make it multi-lingual in future. It said that the Website interface is intuitive and extensive search facility has been provided to access the website contents.

As the nation celebrated National Girl Child Day today, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani exhorted the countrymen to appreciate the daughters of the country and encourage them by celebrating their achievements and take pledge to bridge the gender divide to build an inclusive and equal society.

In a tweet, Ms Irani said, Educate, Encourage and Empower the Girl Child. She said, today is the day to renew our commitment towards providing equal opportunities to our girls. The Minister said, on National Girl Child Day, as we celebrate accomplishments of our daughters, we pledge to bridge the gender divide to build an inclusive and equal society.

The 12th National Voters’ Day is being celebrated today. The theme for this year's voters' day is ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will be the Chief Guest at the national function being organized in New Delhi to mark the day. However, due to his inability to attend the function in person, his message will be virtually delivered during the function.

Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju will be the Guest of Honour.

National Tourism Day is being celebrated today. The day is observed on the 25th of January every year to celebrate the diversity of the country. The theme for this year is Rural and Community Centric Tourism. The Ministry of Tourism is observing this day under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

India and Israel have launched a commemorative logo to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The logo was unveiled virtually yesterday at an online event in the presence of Ambassador of Israel to India Naor Gilon and Indian envoy to Israel, Sanjeev Singla.

The logo features the Star of David and the Ashoka Chakra- the two symbols that adorn the national flags of both countries- and forms the numeral 30 depicting the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations. This special logo symbolises the strong friendship, love and admiration that exists between the people of the two nations. It also depicts the growing strategic partnership between the two sides.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Sanjeev Singla said, India is proud to mark the 30th anniversary of its bilateral relations with Israel and look forward to using the special logo throughout the year to celebrate this special milestone.

The eternal flame at the Amar Jawan Jyoti underneath India Gate in central Delhi was an iconic symbol of the nation’s tributes to the soldiers who have died for the country in various wars and conflicts since Independence.

The government has put out the eternal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti underneath India Gate and merged it with the one instituted at the National War Memorial in 2019 a few hundred meters away.

The decision kicked off a political row, with Opposition leaders claiming that it was a disrespect to the soldiers who have laid down their lives fighting for the country.
