1 AAI hands over Lucknow airport to Adani group on lease for 50 years

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Sunday midnight handed over the Lucknow airport to the Adani group on lease for a period of 50 years.

The AAI had handed over the Mangaluru airport to the group on October 30 midnight.


The central government in February 2019 privatised six major airports of the country -- Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati. After a competitive bidding process, the Adani group won the rights to run all of them for 50 years.

"On November 2, 2020, at 00:00 midnight, AAI's senior officials exchanged Memorandum & handed over Lucknow Airport @aailkoapt to @AdaniOnline," the AAI said on Twitter.

"Shri A.K Sharma, APD (Airport Director), Lucknow exchanged symbolic key in accordance with concession agreement & future development," it added.

The AAI had signed concession agreements with the Adani group on February 14 for operations, management and development of the Mangaluru, Lucknow and Ahmedabad airports.

2 Shane Watson formally announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Shane Watson, the former Australia all-rounder and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener, formally announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old released a video announcing the decision on Tuesday. “This closing chapter is going to be so hard to top, but I am going to try. I truly am forever grateful to have lived this amazing dream,” said the caption.

Watson had informed about his decision after CSK’s final IPL 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday, which the Yellow Army won by nine wickets.

“It all started as a dream as a young kid saying to my Mum, as I watched a Test match, that I want to play for Australia. Now as I officially announce my retirement from all cricket I feel crazily lucky to live my dream,” said Watson.

3 Super typhoon Goni slams into Philippines

Super typhoon Goni brought intense rains and caused heavy flooding in several provinces in the southern part of the Philippines' main island of Luzon on Sunday.

Goni is the world's strongest storm so far this year with winds reaching up to 225kph (140 miles per hour) and gusts of up to 310kph (190mph) as it continues to cross the main island.

Between 19 million and 31 million people could be affected according to the disaster management agency. Goni is among the strongest typhoons to hit the Philippines since Haiyan, which killed more than 6,300 people in 2013. It follows Typhoon Molave, which hit the Philippines last month killing 22 people, mostly through drowning in provinces south of Manila.

4 BCCI announces Jio as title sponsor of Women's T20 Challenge 2020

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Reliance Jio as the title sponsor of the Women's T20 Challenge 2020. This is the first time a sponsor is partnering with the BCCI exclusively for the women's counterpart to the IPL. The Board announced the development in a post on the IPL T20 website.
 
BCCI Chairman Sourav Ganguly said the Board grows the game of cricket across all formats, one key area of focus has been to grow the women’s game. He expressed hope that the Jio Women’s T20 Challenge will inspire more young girls to take up the sport and give parents the confidence that playing cricket is a great career opportunity for their daughters. The women's T20 challenge is scheduled to run from November 4-9 in Sharjah.

5 Prime Minister to launch seaplane service connecting Statue of Unity with Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the seaplane service connecting Statue of Unity in Kevadia with Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad today. Mr Modi yesterday inaugurated a cruise service near the Statue of Unity. The 40-minute cruise will cover six kilometres. The prime minister also inaugurated Ekta Mall, an emporium spread over 35,000 square feet, where handicrafts from all over the country will be up for sale.

A Nutrition Park and a Safari Park are among the several other attractions that he threw open yesterday. The Safari Park is spread over 375 acre and has 1100 species of birds from India and abroad and about 100 animals. Mr Modi also launched an application whereby information about Kevadia will be available in six languages. Key areas of the developed region have been lit by LED lights.

The Prime Minister arrived in Ahmedabad yesterday morning. Immediately thereafter, he headed towards Keshubhai Patel’s residence in Gandhinagar to pay tribute to the leader, who passed away on Thursday. Mr Modi also paid tribute to singer-actor duo Mahesh-Naresh Kanodiya in Gandhinagar and met their family members.

6 Railways launches ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative for security of women passengers

Railways has launched Meri Saheli initiative for focused action on security of women passengers across all zones. Railways Ministry said, the objective of this mission is to provide safety and security to lady passengers travelling by trains for their entire journey from starting station to destination station.

Meri Saheli initiative was started as a pilot project in South Eastern Railway in September this year and after getting encouraging response from lady passengers, it was extended to all zones and Konkan Railway with effect from 17th of this month.
 
Railway Protection Force, RPF has launched this initiative for the security of lady passengers. This initiative is aimed to instill a sense of security among the lady passengers and respond effectively to any security-related issue faced by lady passengers. The RPF team collects only the seat numbers of the ladies and conveys them to stoppages en-route.

The platform duty RPF personnel at the stopping stations en-route keep unobtrusive watch over the concerned coaches and berths. The Ministry said, If some distress call comes from a train covered under Meri Saheli initiative, the disposal of the call is monitored at the level of senior officers.

7 PM to inaugurate Arogya Van& Arogya Kutir at Kevadia in Gujarat today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat from today. He will pay tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the 'Statue of Unity' near Kevadiya in Narmada district tomorrow on the occasion of 145th birth anniversary of this great leader.
 
Prime Minister Modi will pay homage to former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel at 10 AM in Gandhinagar today. At 12 noon, he will inaugurate Arogya Van and Arogya Kutir at Kevadia.
 
Later, he will inaugurate Ekta Mall Children Nutrition Park. Mr. Modi will then inaugurate Jungle Safari and Geodesic Dome Aviary and lay the foundation stone for various projects before reaching the Statue of Unity.

8 Young Bangladeshi boy wins special prize in Global Art Competition conducted by ICCR

A six year old Bangladeshi boy Anzar Mustaeen Ali won a special prize of USD 1000 for his artwork in the global art competition organised by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR). 

The ICCR had launched a global painting competition named ‘United Against CORONA- Express through Art’ which attracted 8000 artwork entries from around the world. After the first round of competition 210 artworks were shortlisted. The final jury evaluated and decided the winners from each category such as Indian and Foreign, Professional/Amateur/Children in four different sections: Contemporary Art; Folk and Tribal Art; Cartoons and Illustrations and Digital and New Age Art. The maximum number of entries for the global competition were received from Bangladesh, said a press release issued by the High Commission of India in Dhaka on Tuesday.

High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami handed over the prize money of USD 1000 to Master Anzar Mustaeen Ali in a function held at the Chancery in Dhaka on Tuesday. He congratulated Master Anzar in the presence of his family and officials of the High Commission. Six other art works from Bangladesh were selected for showcasing at the digital art exhibition of ICCR.

9 Arjun Munda launches two Centers of Excellence for Tribal Welfare

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda launched two Centers of Excellence for Tribal Welfare today. These centers were launched in collaboration between the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and Art of Living through video conference.
 
Addressing on the occasion, Mr. Munda informed that the one Center will be engaged in the field of training tribal farmers in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra on sustainable natural farming while the second one will be working towards strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions in 5 districts covering 30 Gram Panchayats and 150 villages of Jharkhand.
 
Mr. Munda said, the Union government is fully committed to the welfare of tribal people in the country. Sri Sri Ravishankar of Art of Living, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh, along with senior officials of the Tribal Affairs Ministry were also present on the occasion.

10 PM Modi to interact with beneficiaries of PM SVANidhi Scheme from UP

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the beneficiaries of PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme from Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday via video conferencing.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh will also be present on the occasion.

PM SVANidhi scheme was launched on 1st of June this year to help poor street vendors, impacted by COVID-19, resume livelihood activities.

Till date, a total of more than 24 lakh applications have been received under the scheme, out of which more than 12 lakh have been sanctioned and about 5.35 lakh loans have been disbursed.

In Uttar Pradesh, more than six lakh applications have been filed, out of which about 3.27 lakh have been sanctioned and 1.87 lakh loans have been disbursed.

The interaction will be witnessed by beneficiaries of the Scheme from across the state.
