1 Kerala Home Minister launches Project Zero with a no-tolerance policy on corruption

Launching ‘Project Zero’, an anti-corruption initiative to make the state completely free of corruption through a phased and systematic process, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said the government would adopt a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and ensure that public services are delivered without bribery.

The initiative was unveiled after a high-level meeting with officials of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB).

Addressing a press conference, Chennithala said the campaign would be implemented with the support of the public and media. He urged people to report corruption directly to the VACB and assured complete confidentiality for whistleblowers and complainants.

2 PM reaffirms stability, prosperity in Indo-Pacific in meetings with Foreign Ministers of Australia, Japan

India and Australia will continue to work for a free, open, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) after he held discussions with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Mr. Modi also met Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and reaffirmed the vital role of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership in advancing peace, stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

Earlier in the day, India hosted the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, chaired by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, which was attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi.

3 SEBI to unveil bond ETF to boost retail investor participation

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is making efforts to develop bond ETFs and derivatives on corporate bond indices to improve retail investor participation in the bond market.

“We are working towards further developing bond ETFs and derivatives on corporate bond indices. These can improve liquidity, allow retail investors to access debt markets with smaller ticket sizes, and help institutions hedge interest-rate risks,” said SEBI Chairperson Tuhin Kanta Pandey while addressing a debt-market event here. He further said that the regulator was “exploring a distinct regulatory classification for debt brokers.”

“This can lower costs, reduce entry barriers and encourage dedicated debt-market intermediaries,” he continued.

4 Rare Blueberry Species Rediscovered In Arunachal Forest After 188 Years

Researchers have rediscovered 'Vaccinium piliferum', a rare and endangered wild relative of the blueberry, in the remote forests of Vijoynagar in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district, nearly 188 years after it was first recorded in 1836.

The rediscovery in the Eastern Himalayan region is being seen as a major botanical achievement and an important addition to India's biodiversity records.

Researchers said 'Vaccinium piliferum' belongs to the Ericaceae family, which includes blueberries and cranberries.

The species was rediscovered recently by researchers from the Society for Education and Environmental Development, CSIR-North East Institute of Science (NEIST) and Technology and collaborating institutions, a source in the institute said.

5 India home to 191 species of cockroaches, 60% of them are endemic, says ZSI study

India is home to 191 species of cockroaches and 119 of these species (more than 60% of the species) are endemic to India, a recent publication by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) highlighted. Endemism is the ecological state where a species or taxonomic group is native to a single, highly defined geographic location.

The publication titled DNA barcodes and species delimitation reveal overlooked diversity in Indian cockroaches (Blattodea), reveals that India’s hidden cockroach diversity is far greater than previously recognized.

The paper points out that at present 191 extant species of cockroaches Blattodea have been documented in India, distributed across 74 genera, with 126 species having defined type localities within the country.

6 NASA unveils 3-phase $20-billion plan for permanent moon base

After a successful lunar flyaround, NASA has announced three missions to the moon as part of efforts to establish a permanent base on the earth's natural satellite.

At a press conference here, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman on Tuesday unveiled a $20 billion plan to set up a permanent base on the moon, equipped with lunar rovers and drones, for carrying out experiments that would help master skills to live and operate in the dangerous environment.

"America is returning to the moon. The Moon Base will be America's and humanity's first outpost on another celestial world," Isaacman said.

NASA has announced its goal to set up a lunar base in March and listed out concrete steps on Tuesday. NASA aims to land astronauts on the moon in 2028.

7 Indian government, tech firm join forces to test Anthropic’s Claude Mythos

Anthropic’s new cybersecurity-focused model, Claude Mythos, has sparked global concerns across nations and industries over its capabilities and potential misuse. Following a month of testing by partner organisations under Project Glasswing, the Indian government and tech firms have now joined forces to test the model and assess vulnerabilities across its critical systems.

According to a Bloomberg report, several Indian tech giants, including Infosys Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS), will likely get access to Mythos Preview. These companies will reportedly test their software systems to identify potential threats, weaknesses or security vulnerabilities. It was highlighted that Infosys will be testing Mythos capabilities for creating security fixes for its widely used banking platform, Finacle.

8 Adani Green Energy commissions world's largest single-location battery storage system outside China at Khavda

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) on Tuesday announced the commissioning of a cumulative 3.37 Gigawatt-hour (GWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Khavda in Gujarat, making it the world's largest single-location battery storage deployment outside China and among the fastest utility-scale projects executed globally.

The company said the deployment, completed within 10 months of commencement of on-site construction, includes the 1.37 GWh capacity commissioned in March 2026, taking AGEL's total operational battery energy storage capacity at Khavda to 3.37 GWh.

According to the company, the large-scale battery storage system is expected to strengthen grid reliability, support peak-hour electricity supply and enable renewable energy to provide round-the-clock clean power at scale.

Government has notified the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal) Rules, 2026.

The National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026 provide for the composition of the Board, term of office of the Chairperson and Members, salary, allowances and other conditions of service, as well as the powers and functions of the Board.

Under the Rules, the National Sports Board shall consist of a Chairperson and two Members to be appointed by the Central Government from a panel of names recommended by the Search-cum-Selection Committee.

The National Sports Board will function as the central authority for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance, financial and ethical standards.

10 Assam Tables Uniform Civil Code Bill In State Assembly

In a very significant development, the Assam government has tabled the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in the state assembly on Monday. Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Atul Bora introduced the bill on behalf of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, amid opposition MLAs trying to raise their voices against the bill, asking the speaker not to approve the tabling of the bill.

The Assam Cabinet last week approved the draft of the Uniform Civil Code.

While the function of the Assam Assembly has been extended by one day to May 27, discussion on the bill is likely to take place on Tuesday, sources added.
