1 India becomes the world's second largest producer of steel

Union Minister of Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that India has made remarkable progress in the steel sector in the last 8 years. He said, the country which was earlier a net importer of the steel has now become a net exporter. The Minister was addressing the Steel Conference of State governments in New Delhi today. Mr. Scindia informed that  India has also moved from 4th largest producer of steel to the second largest producer of steel at global scale.
 
Speaking about the growth of steel consumption in the country, the Steel Minister added that the per capita steel consumption grew from 57.8 kilogram to 78 kilogram, registering a growth of  50 per cent in the last 8 years. In case of installed capacity of steel, the country has moved from 100 million tonnes a year to almost 150 million tonnes. Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia also informed that the country has registered a tremendous growth in the steel production.

2 DAHD initiates process for integration of its various infrastructures with PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan

Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) has initiated the process for integration of its various infrastructures with PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan.

In the first step, the department has integrated its 7 central Cattle Breeding Farms, 4 Central Herd Registration Scheme and Central Frozen Semen Production and Training Institute located at various locations of the country with PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
The integration of other institutions such as Regional Fodder Stations and Central Poultry Development Organizations with PM Gati Shakthi is also under progress.

4 India-US joint military training exercise Yudh Abhyas to begin today in Auli, Uttrakhand

18th edition of India-US joint military training exercise Yudh Abhyas will begin today in Auli, Uttrakhand. The 15-day-long exercise will focus on high altitude and extremely cold climate warfare. Exercise Yudh Abhyas is conducted annually between India and US with the aim of exchanging best practices, Tactics, Techniques and Procedures between the Armies of the two nations.

The previous edition of the exercise was conducted at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska (USA) in October 2021. US Army soldiers of 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division and Indian Army soldiers from the Assam Regiment will be participating in the exercise.

5 Railway Ministry allows IRCTC to customize menu of food served in trains

Railway Ministry has given Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) the flexibility to customise its menu of food items served in trains to include local and regional cuisines.

It also includes food items as per the preferences of different groups of passengers such as diabetic food, baby food and health food options.

In a statement, Railway Ministry said that for 'prepaid' trains, in which catering charges are included in the passenger fare, the menu will be decided by the IRCTC within the tariff already notified.

6 National Press Day being observed today

Today is National Press Day. The day is observed on 16th November every year to commemorate a free and responsible press. It was on this day that the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that the press maintains high standards and is not fettered by any influence or threats.

Since the year 1997, the Council has commemorated the day in a significant way through seminars with relevant themes. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur will be the chief guest at the National Press Day Celebration in Delhi today.

9 COP27: India says access to Finance, Technology for developing countries must to protect planet earth

India has told the developed countries that access to Finance and Technology to developing countries is must to protect earth from apocalyptic changes

Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav said this, while speaking at a High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Finance in the ongoing COP27 summit at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Raising concerns over the issue of climate finance, the Minister said that the commitment made by the developed countries to mobilize 100 billion dollars from diverse sources by 2020 was a meager amount and remains unachieved till now. He added that the current needs of developing countries are estimated to be in the order of trillions.

10 Spanish Film Director and writer Carlos Saura to be given Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award at 53rd IFFI

Spanish Film Director and writer Carlos Saura will be conferred the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 at the upcoming 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India at Goa. The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan in New Delhi today.

Addressing a curtain raiser press conference ahead of the 53rd International Film Festival of India, The Minister said, the international section is an important and focused area of this time, and more than 180 films have been selected to screen at the festival. The Minister informed that a children's film package, suggested by UNICEF, has been introduced for the first time in IFFI, and which would include the screening of about seven films.
